New to USA Coach Education For the first time and following on from the success of the Master of Tennis - Performance and Junior Development programs, PTR is offering a Master of Tennis (MOT) program to qualify tennis teachers and coaches to work at the highest level with adults of all ages. The content of the Master of Tennis - program has been designed to help coaches develop the appropriate behaviors, knowledge, and skills and abilities needed to organize and coach high quality programs for adult beginners and improvers to play tennis. The high standards of the program will be mirrored in the high standards of the coaches attending and completing the program. There are specific requirements to apply and be accepted for this MOT. It is open to PTR members who hold a Professional rating in PTR and/or Senior basic certifications. The MOT program has two four (4) day modules combined with home study in order that the participants can complete a full time work schedule in addition to their studies. There are 18 different, but linked, courses making up the whole MOT. These courses combine online learning, home study and club coaching at home with the practical on court work in each module. With this format, participants will benefit both from studying at their own pace and having the opportunity to interact with their peers on court. A maximum of 16 PTR Professionals will be accepted to the program which must be completed within two years of acceptance. The program content is intended to deliver on high quality programming and coaching for adult players. The online education work is accessed through a specific section of the PTR/Tennis LMS web platform. Each coach will be assigned a personal access code, so work can be completed and stored for easy reference at any time. The first PTR Master of Tennis - will begin in 2016 and be completed in 2018. The two four (4) day Modules be conducted in May and November 2016 in two different venues in the United States. Assessment of coach performance in each of the 18 courses will be ongoing. The participants must successfully complete ALL the competencies in EVERY course to be awarded the qualification. Participants are allowed theree (3) attempts to successfully pass each of the 18 courses. Those who complete the program will earn the rating of PTR Master of Tennis -. 1
Applicant Information and Requirements Each PTR Master of Tennis course has a maximum of 16 Coaches participating. The coach must attend the full 4 days on both Modules. The total cost of the Master of Tennis - Program is $1,750 ($100 application fee + 3 payments of $550 each). Application deadline - February 29, 2016 To apply for the PTR Master of Tennis program, each coach is required to: have coached for 3 years full time or 5 years part time, since obtaining PTR Professional Certification (or its equivalent*) hold a Professional rating in PTR and/or Senior Development at the time the program begins be a current PTR member residing in the United States be at least 21 years old be currently teaching tennis on a full-time basis throughout the year hold a player rating equivalent of NTRP 4.5 (ITN 5) be able to complete every course of the PTR Master of Tennis - qualification within two years of starting the program have attended the PTR Symposium at least once in the last 3 years before completing the Master of Tennis - qualification have obtained and submitted a completed background check prior to beginning the program Following the program, the coach must continue with set Continuing Education requirements in order to keep their Master of Tennis - qualification. * Tennis professionals who hold a certification from another country or within the US will need to be given equivalence into the PTR Coach Education program BEFORE beginning the Master of Tennis program. Complete the application and submit it with the $100 application fee. PTR reserves the right to make selection for the program notwithstanding the following: 1. The professional is coaching players in adult development at a club or facility that has an adult program 2. The requirements for equity and inclusion in terms of gender, ethnicity, ability and experience 3.
