Communication, language, to say, to tell something about us; maybe using the correct words, although right words for who? For ourselves or for the others? The dialogue, flow of communication from a person towards an other person and vice versa, are replaced by the bare need to throw out, to assert, to tell our ego. With no care of who is listening. To communicate; the action basically consists in a flow of information from a subject to an other defined subject, otherwise often the role of the recipient becomes confused and the flow is replaced by a self focused wish to throw out and to assert ourselves. In the ONEWAY exhibition seven artists (or collectives of artists) are facing with the unidirectional communication in which the subject that transmits the message avoid from the subjectivity of the listener: to communicate towards anyone who can give attention and do not expect answer. The selection of the artists has been carried out holding account of their personal artistic approach and of their specific work onto this theme. The curatorial project of ONEWAY exhibition is also thought as a path for the spectator to form an his own meditation on the theme. It starts from the work of the photographer and performer Heiko Beck Ich bin einsam (1), that means I am alone, symbolic in representing the radical form of the unidirectional communication: the subject is alone and it cannot say it to no other than to all. Mainly on the documentary side, the work of the videomaker Julia Steuernagel The big nothing (2) that, as well with a fully aesthetic eye, collects and edit parallel sequences found in the web. Everyday life fragments that have been, for will of the subject, made visible and publics. The fragment of private existence poured on YouTube, in the sea of the net, recalls the message in a bottle from the shipwrecked that it is found again in the work Shipwreck of our voice (3) of Silvio Valpreda. In this case the author starts from a sort of selfcriticism in which the photographic archives of the author, at the same time full of personal references and in past exposed to the public like artistic job, have been bottled, fragmenting it and dispersing it, thus criticizing the emptiness of the (artistic) exposure of himself. The interactive installation of the group of Danish artists ALT The Talk Talk Back Art Machine (4) moves the level of analysis on the spectator who is forced to be at the same time sender and recipient of the same. The communication becomes pure semantic diagram as the anonymous generalization of the recipient is institutional thus like it is inquired in the installation of the electronic artists Fannidada Smoking kills (5) using health advices printed on cigarettes boxes as a pattern in a sort of interactive video game. With the postpop painting of Paolo Mandolino TIE (6) we take a walk on the border between the meaning of the message and his pure aesthetic value when the omni directional communication has been delegated to a symbolic element, in this case the necktie. Sato Kawabata, at last, works on the semantic concept of the dress code as a generalized message in its installation room 服 (7), that means dress, in which the spectator is asked to enter naked in order to observe a item of clothing transformed in art work.
