Relay Online How To: Add an App to Your Event Facebook Page + Facebook App Tips! NEW Facebook Timeline enhancement allows you to add a Sign Up and/or Donate app to your event s Facebook page, which can link directly to your event s sign up/donation form! Here is the easy step-by-step guide to add a Sign Up/Donate app to your event s Facebook page: For this example, we will use the DONATE feature: Before you begin the process of creating the Donate app - start by visiting your local Relay For Life page. Click on the Donate button, then click on the Donate to this event >> button. This will take you to the donation form for your event copy the URL of this page, and paste it into a word document for safe keeping! You ll need to reference this later!! Please note: To create a Sign Up app, you would simply visit your local Relay For Life page, click on the Sign Up button, then copy the URL of the Sign Up page. These next steps all apply.
Start by registering for the app creation tool (you will only need to do this one time): 1. Start by logging in to your personal Facebook account. Please note: only page admins can add apps to pages, so if you are not the administrator of your event s Facebook page, please pass this information along! 2. While still viewing Facebook as yourself, do a search for the term: TradableBits, which is the app you will use to create your new tab. 3. Once you ve located the tradable bits app, go ahead and Sign Up. Facebook will ask for your permission, and you should click Allow to continue with the process. 4. The next step is to continue registering for tradable bits by completing your personal information. You will also receive a confirmation email, with a code that will need to be verified to confirm you are who you say you are! Continue with app creation: 5. Once you have completed your registration, you will see a list of the Facebook page(s) you manage. If you manage more than one event page you will see them all listed! 6. Start the process by clicking Manage next to the Facebook event page you want to add the Donate app to. 7. Next, you ll be prompted to add your new app to the Facebook page, so click the Add App button. 8. A new window will open, with a variety of app choices. From the Basic Apps drop down, select the HTML app. 9. Then click Next to confirm that selection. Next we ll move on to configure our app 10. The next step is to give your app a name and select an icon. These will both be viewable to the public, and will identify the app, so you want to stick with the recommended settings. a. App Name: Donate or Support Relay For Life b. Icon: Purple Star Please note: If you wish to customize your app name and icon further, you will have the opportunity to do so in step 15. 11. Click Finish.
Now that our app is fully created, we can edit some of the settings 12. The first option in the edit process is to select how our app will appear when a Facebook user chooses to share/send it. You can leave this as is, to default to the selections you made in Step 10 (Recommended Settings) Or can you update with a Relay logo and a Title. Some title suggestions are Support Relay For Life or Support the Relay For Life of [Event Name] 13. Moving down to the settings, select URL from the Source drop down. The page will update with the proper URL fields. 14. Here is where the link to the donation form that we found earlier will come in handy! Paste the link to your event donation form in the URL for visitors and the URL for fans spaces. This will load your donation form directly into the app, so when someone visits your event Facebook page, and clicks on the app icon, they can make a donation to your event directly through Facebook! Scroll down, and click Save to save your changes so far.
15. Next, on the right-hand side of the page is a Facebook Publisher box. Here is where we can add a customized photo to our app which will appear as the tab cover photo. Click Change App Name And Image. A new window will open, where you can upload a new image to serve as the app icon, and you can update the app title. We have provided some icons that you can download and save to use as your app icon. Donate button Sign Up button RFL logo Please note: This extra step of customization is optional. You may also choose to keep the selections you made in step 10. Make the desired changes to your app settings, and click Save. Now we re ready to publish our app! 16. If you want to view your new app before publishing it to your Facebook page, you can do use by choosing View along the top navigation bar. Otherwise, you are now finished and can you ahead and publish your app! 17. To publish your new Donate app to your Facebook page, simply click Publish App on Facebook. 18. And you re done!
