LPHS QUANTUM Behind the Scenes of The Addams Family: Crew Being a part of the Crew for the Addams Family musical production was really fun. In Crew, we do all of the behind the scenes and backstage work, such as putting together the costumes, building the set, fixing the lights, painting the backdrop, and making sure everything is running smoothly backstage. Being a part of the production was so incredibly fun and it will always be one of our favourite memories of high school. We are really looking forward to next year's production and can't wait! We are looking to recruit new members! If this interests you, don't be shy to join, every one is welcomed! -Lauren and Mercedes Behind The Scenes of The Addams Family: Cast We're happy and we're cooky, mysterious and spooky, we're all together ooky, we're the Addams Family! Being part of the cast in this year's Musical "The Addams Family" was so much fun. We got to experience the preparation and process of a play, what it's like to be "in the spotlight", we got to meet new people and make new friends, and most importantly, we made lifelong memories! For six months, the cast and crew worked hard and gave it their all. When production week came along, it was finally showtime! As the curtains opened and the music started to play, I realized that this was it. All the work and effort we had put into the Musical was finally coming to life! We had so much fun being part of the Addams Family Musical and wouldn't trade this experience for the world. We will definitely be participating in the following years' Musicals and hope that each one will be just as good as the last! -Daniela Perez and Evelyn LaFerrière (Grade 8)

The "En Masse" LPHS "It is the things we work hardest for that will reward us the most." Most people will only find the buried treasure once they have done all of the searching and digging and sometimes it is as simple as taking an old painting off a wall. Lindsay Place invited three professional En Masse artists to create a new mural. Each selected Lindsay Place art student had the opportunity to work with them for two full days. En Masse murals and paintings are black and white. When a painting is in black and white, the human eye imagines the colours they want it to have. The mural is a huge collage of school spirit and Lindsay Place student pride. Each design and element of the mural embodied a unique style and so does every student in our school. Every student involved in this project had a big task, regardless of the size of their drawing. With the help and guidance of our En Masse team, we have succeeded in creating a mural that will always be in our hearts. ~Amy S. Gr.8

Grade 8 Quantum at the NFB In February 2015, the grade 8 Quantum students visited the National Film Board to learn more about the production and creation of documentary films. The students were divided in groups and asked to create their very own documentary about teenage issues. They learnt how to use professional cameras along with sophisticated editing software. The students enjoyed learning new techniques and new aspects of film-making. Each documentary varied greatly and tackled important problems. The different strategies gave the students a creative way to approach projects in a very fun and liberal setting. In March 2015, we were very lucky to have the NFB come and visit us for another workshop; Me, Myself and ipad animation. After doing the documentary workshops, the coordinators chose the grade 8 classes to pilot this new project. In this workshop, the students discussed identity and perception of ourselves and others. The students were given an app created by the NFB to animate stopmotion animations. The animations discussed personality and the projection of ourselves. The students realized just how many hours of endless dedication animators devote to perhaps only a minute of screen time. Both workshops offered diverse techniques to complete the tasks at hand and opened many undiscovered doors for many of the students. -Geri Perez, Emily Kimura, Jasmine Brown, Priya Verma and Tamiah Cox-Bourgeois

Le Camp d'hiver J ai beaucoup aimé le camp d hiver mais il y a une chose que j'ai vraiment aimé; le fait qu on ne pouvait pas apporter nos appareils électroniques. Sans la technologie, on a eu la chance d'intéragir avec les autres d'une meilleure façon parce qu'on ne jouait pas sur nos ipads tout le temps. Cela a fortifié mes amitiés et j'ai aussi rencontré des nouveaux amis! (Ariella) Le camp d hiver était la seule chose qui m a excitée cet hiver. L activité que j ai aimé le plus est le GPS. C était très difficile mais j aime un défi! On ne pouvait pas trouver toutes les lettres mais on a trouvé le «L». À un moment, mon équipe a trouvé deux autres équipes. On a décidé de transformer nos équipes en une grosse équipe pour chercher la lettre «O». C était très amusant. (Shani) Je pense qu on doit continuer d aller à Jouvence en Quantum, parce qu on se débranche pour plus que 24 heures et on parle face à face. J ai appris plus sur mes amis comme ça! (Emma D.) 2

Sports Lindsay Place offers a large variety of sports teams for all students. Some of these include; hockey, soccer, basketball, etc. If you don't like team sports, there are also a lot of individual sports such as swimming, track and field, badminton and cross country. Also, if you have prior commitments after school when most games take place, Lindsay Place offers you multiple sports tournaments during the lunch period. The tournaments are open to all grade and skill levels. The tournaments include hockey, soccer, handball, dodgeball and many more. Participating in school sports is a very fun, rewarding experience where you get to make new friends and try new things! -Alicia Marks (Grade 8)

On April 1st 2015, seven students attended the Battle of the Books. The team fought hard and did very well! During the battle, each team was asked a series of questions they had to answer about the books they had read. Battle of the books requires the team members to read a total of fourteen books between them. Although it may sound like a lot of reading, all of the books were interesting, making it an even more fun experience! On behalf of the entire Battle of the Books team, thank you so much Mrs. Dunning, the librarian for this lovely experience. We had an amazing time, this wonderful experience will stay with us for many years to come! -Angelica Antonakopoulous

LET'S TALK SCIENCE! Do you like science? Are you competitive? If you answered "yes" to one of those questions, then the science challenge is perfect for you! The "Let's Talk Science Challenge" is a challenge organized by McGill University. We are split into teams of 4 and each team must study 8 subjects. Each team member must choose 2 subjects of their interest to study. (Engineering and Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Space Science, Earth Science, Environmental Science and Mathematics). Once a week, the students get together at lunch and compete in mini challenges to prepare ourselves for the competition. At the challenge, we will be competing against other students which range from grade 6-8 from other schools. This challenge has enriched our science knowledge and our appreciation for the subject. At the end of the day, the winners are celebrated, presented with medals, and crowned the Let s Talk Science Challenge Champions! -Deanna Schecter & Kiranvir Singh
