C lass Speaker Siaka Massaquoi I came into this program like a lot of people did; unable to find a job, struggling to find my way into the technology field, and looking to make more money. I wasn t ready to take on any new challenges ahead of me, but NPower changed that. Earlier in the year, a friend of mine told me that he was a part of NPower s Technology Service Corps Program. He bragged about all of the skills he was being taught, all of the large companies he was visiting and how well he was doing. Of course, when I heard about the program I asked him how I could get into it. That s when I learned that there was an age restriction. Naturally, I was disappointed. I thought it could be the opportunity that I needed, but I figured that everything happens for a reason. The following August, I received a call from the same friend saying that there was a new program and that I was qualified for, but I only had a couple of days to apply. I realized that this was an opportunity to get myself back on track, so I rushed to get everything I needed to apply ready and successfully got it in on time. This class is special. There are so many amazing people who are a part of this program, from the students to the staff. Being around so many people who were struggling just like me, but were also so determined to succeed made me want to achieve more. It s amazing how fast we became more than a class, we re basically family. We have had hard moments trying to understand the curriculum and trying to figure each other out. We have also had great moments, like when we all passed the ITIL certification exam. We have been together for what s seems much longer than six weeks and I m grateful for it. Being around technology has brought me back. It has reignited the fire I had for reaching my goals. 5

Dheyazen Alseelwe Brooklyn, New York Rodesha Bryant Brooklyn, New York I was recommended to the NPower TechCareer Accelerator program through the Technology Service Corps program right after I finished my internship at DoITT. I was hesitant to join because I was taking six courses in college at night in pursuit of my Bachelor s degree in Computer Information Systems, and my workload was already heavy. Looking back, I can say that joining the program was definitely the right choice. I learned a lot in this program. I was able to obtain my ITIL certificate and learned a lot about ServiceNow. Also, I met a lot of great people, from students to NPower staff. Not only did this program help me grow intellectually, but also professionally to reach my goal of one day working in Project Management. As a graduate with a B.A. in Computer Systems, I was excited and thrilled to find any opportunity that would match my technical skills. However, that process became quite difficult, finding that most jobs would not hire me or select me for the interview process. Before TechCareer Accelerator, I was desperate in attempts to find any opportunity that would allow me to grow in the field I love and am passionate about. As a former Technology Service Corps student, I came across this program from NPower in hopes that it would provide me with new opportunities. I was eager to be a part of it, considering the success I saw in NPower s Technology Service Corps program. My journey as a TechCareer Accelerator student has been filled with experiences that will provide me with the abilities to work in a blended environment with people of all skill sets. It has also helped me build independence. My future plans after graduating are to become employed and become a System Administrator working with the ServiceNow platform or utilizing the ITIL business rules. #TechCareerAccelerator 10

Raphael Charles Brooklyn, New York Abdenour Chenafi Brooklyn, New York Before joining the NPower TechCareer Accelerator program, I had just finished the Technology Service Corps program a few months earlier. In June 2015, I completed that program while earning an A+ Certification. Eager to learn and to build my information technology career, I decided to enroll in the TechCareer Accelerator program. By having the chance to obtain my ITIL and ServiceNow certifications, I saw an opportunity that I couldn t let pass by. After the TechCareer Accelerator program, I plan to use my ITIL and ServiceNow skills to obtain a job that will kick start my career in the IT workforce. Prior to the TechCareer Accelerator program, I worked in many positions related to information technology. I love this field, but I was looking for an opportunity to improve my knowledge and skills. I recently moved to the U.S. from Algeria and was looking for a way into the field. So when I heard about NPower and the TechCareer Accelerator program, I didn t hesitate to apply for this superb opportunity. During the six weeks of the program, I learned a lot from the dedicated team of NPower (Patrick, Mohanchand, Steven, Meghan, and Abdul) and I was always determined to gain the maximum knowledge and certifications provided in this program. My future plan after graduating from this program is to get a job in the field of Information Technology at a company where there s an opportunity for growth using the skills I acquired at NPower. 11

Thomas Garayua Manhattan, New York Darlene Greaves Jersey City, New Jersey I am a proud alumnus of the NPower Technology Service Corps and now, TechCareer Accelerator program. Before this program, I was pursuing certifications to advance myself in the information technology field. Throughout this time I ve also worked part-time as a barista while studying to obtain my Network+ certification. Prior to joining NPower, I built computers as a hobby. I ve done research to discover ways of mixing my passion of PC gaming with a career in IT. NPower was a perfect outlet to make that happen. It provided me with the tools, such as education and hands-on experience, to achieve these goals. When opportunity knocks, make sure you re prepared to open that door. Down the line I see myself working in a project management position in the video gaming industry. I see this as a stepping stone and the beginning of a successful career. Service Management is something that has been a part of my IT career since its beginning. I have always been someone who is intrigued by information. I love learning and enhancing my knowledge, especially in an area in which I seem to have a niche for. For this reason, I decided to take part in the NPower TechCareer Accelerator Service Management Program and I am absolutely glad that I have. Not only did I learn a great deal in service management, but I had the opportunity to spend my last few weeks with some amazing people! #TechCareerAccelerator 12

Farzana Binte Harun Bronx, New York Garry L. Harvey Brooklyn, New York U.S. Army Veteran I completed my Bachelor s in Computer Science in Bangladesh. I started my career as a teacher and three years later moved to New York, where I became a volunteer at YCBA. Because my background is in computer science, I wanted take additional IT courses and it was at that time I found NPower. What stands out to me is the fact that NPower is always there, wanting and willing to help. It was a great opportunity and I am glad to be a part of it. After graduation, now holding a ServiceNow System Administrator certificate, I hope that the companies who are using ServiceNow would be willing to give me an opportunity to prove myself. Prior to joining NPower, I was freelancing as an IT Business Consultant for boutique shops. After meeting staff members at a military hiring event, I was really drawn in by NPower s business model for their TechCareer Accelerator program. The corporate partnerships were very appealing. Upon completion of the program, my immediate and future plans are to continue growing and building on my career within project and program management, and IT service management space. 13

Ami Kumagai-Nosea Queens, New York Kaji Lama Queens, New York I am very happy to be a part of TechCareer Accelerator program. I recently graduated from Baruch College obtaining a Bachelor s degree in Computer Information Systems and have a marketing and communication background. I was expecting to get a full-time position easily due to my degree; however, it was harder than what I expected. In the IT field, we must obtain relevant certifications to succeed in a competitive environment. I was lost in the dark. I was very happy when my best friend, an NPower alumnus, introduced me to this program. I really appreciate this opportunity and continue to grow as a person and in my career. This has been a great opportunity. I hope this program will continue on for the next generation of IT professionals to have a career and will help the next young, potential Bill Gates. As a recent Computer Systems Technology graduate and with some technical programming experience, I was looking into expanding my portfolio and possible future career prospects. One day I was approached by a former professor at City Tech who recommended that I apply to this new and hot technology training program at NPower. I could not pass up this opportunity, especially when I could learn so much about this technology in just six weeks, at no cost to me. Additionally, the overall career development support from the wonderful people at NPower was an added perk. This program will add much value to my overall skill set and to my technical background. At the end of this program, I wish to work as a certified ServiceNow Administrator, as well as a software developer for a couple of years at a Fortune 500 company. Ultimately, I hope to head a technology division within the next 5-7 years. #TechCareerAccelerator 14

Siaka Massaquoi Allentown, Pennsylvania Mulikat Olaleye Queens, New York City Before joining the TechCareer Accelerator program, I was working two jobs, six days a week. I had been out of school since the summer of 2014 and I had not been able to secure a job. Jobs in computer fields in Allentown, PA were really hard to find. I ve wanted to come back to Brooklyn (where I am from) for a while, so I began asking friends about new opportunities in New York. That s when a friend of mine told me about NPower. He was a recent graduate and the way he spoke of the program made me really interested in joining. As soon as I found out about the TechCareer Accelerator program, I applied and I haven t looked back. I plan to take everything that I have learned in the program and from school to find a great career in Quality Assurance Project Management. With this new skill set, I hope to return to the city I love. I am a proud participant of the NPower TechCareer Accelerator program. What made me apply to this program was the prospect of a great opportunity to explore my career objectives. What stood out the most for me during my journey was earning my certifications in ITIL and ServiceNow in such a short period of time. I was excited to set an example for my 4 children. I moved to the U.S. from Nigeria to seek out better opportunities for myself and my family. I have shown them what it is possible to achieve. My plan after graduating from the program is to explore a career as a Computer Support Specialist and ServiceNow Administrator. This will help me better establish myself as a knowledgeable and experienced professional in the information technology field. My goal is to one day become an executive officer of a Fortune 500 company that provides IT services. 15

Adetola Solesi Brooklyn, New York Kady Tokora New York, New York I am honored to be able to associate myself with NPower as a graduate of the TechCareer Accelerator program. I am pursuing a career as an Information Technology Specialist which is why I chose to attend New York City College of Technology with a focus in computer engineering. I applied to this program to further increase my knowledge in computer technology, as well as to gain experience which could lead to a successful position in the future. My time at NPower was blissful. I had a chance to meet some great people as well as a wonderful teacher. Amongst various activities that we were involved with, what stood out the most were the weekly site visits. Each opportunity allowed us to network with CIOs and directors at various Fortune 500 corporations. I believe the weekly workshops in the program will greatly help with my growth in the IT field, as well as my professional skills. I am truly grateful for the opportunity NPower has provided me. I hope to be involved with NPower s programs and visions for the future. I urge all to take part in this glorious program because this has been one of the greatest decisions I have ever made in my life. After I graduated from NPower s Technology Service Corps, I worked for CBS Corporation for about a year as a Business Analyst. When Patrick Cohen contacted me about the TechCareer Accelerator, I jumped at the opportunity and was very excited to sharpen my skills. The knowledge I gained is incalculable and I cannot wait to take the next step towards advancing in my career. After graduation, my goal is to continue growing within the IT field and keep a close relationship with NPower. #TechCareerAccelerator 16

Shikura, Velez Long Island, New York Shadai Williams Brooklyn, New York Before the TechCareer Accelerator program I was attending Pace University, where I graduated with a Bachelor s in Information Technology. I chose to apply to NPower because a family member is an alumnus and they recommended it to me. In joining the NPower family, I have come to see firsthand how passionate they are about what they do. My future plans after graduating include getting a job that can later put me in a position to help others obtain their own goals. I am a proud alumnus of the NPower Technology Service Corps Program. Prior to my acceptance in the Tech Career Accelerator Program, I completed my graduate studies and obtained my M.S. in Global Business and Finance. My purpose for applying to the program was to expand my skill set and achieve career growth by combining all that I had learned in the corps program with my education and work experience. The Tech Career Accelerator stood out to me in that it provided me with the opportunity to acquire two certifications in ITIL and ServiceNow in such a short period of time. It also aligned me with an environment in which I could utilize my new skill sets. Overall, my goal is to merge my M.S. Degree in Global Business and Finance with my IT Service Management Certifications to positively impact the technology industry. 17
