3 THE CENTER FOR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES (CEO) For more than 30 years, CEO s goal has been to provide immediate, comprehensive and effective employment services for men and women returning from incarceration. CEO offers comprehensive employment services exclusively for people with criminal records. CEO s model consists of life skill education, short-term paid transitional employment, full-time job placement and post-placement services. This year, CEO anticipates preparing more than 3,000 people to move into mainstream employment. CEO is committed to serving the most at-risk populations. We place an emphasis on providing services to Young Adults ages a population which frequently has limited work experience, faces particularly strong barriers to entering the workforce, and is at higher risk of re-offending. HISTORY CEO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. CEO began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release. In 1996, CEO became an independent nonprofit organization, providing comprehensive employment services to people newly released from New York State prisons and detention facilities. Since becoming an independent corporation in 1996, CEO has helped place more than 16,000 job formerly incarcerated persons into full-time employment.
4 MISSION The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) is dedicated to providing immediate, effective and comprehensive employment services to men and women with recent criminal convictions. Our highly structured and tightly supervised programs help participants regain the skills and confidence needed for a successful transition to a stable, productive life. VISION CEO s vision is that anyone with a recent criminal history who wants to work has the preparation and support needed to find a job and to stay connected to the labor force. 5 THE CEO MODEL JOB READINESS TRAINING TRANSITIONAL WORK JOB PLACEMENT POST-PLACEMENT Participants are referred to All Job Readiness Training On scheduled days, CEO provides support for one CEO from their community graduates are eligible to be participants return to CEO year to all participants who are criminal justice supervising employed on CEO s headquarters dressed for job placed in full-time jobs to help agency. At the end of each full-day shift, CEO puts a paycheck in the hand of each participant. employment specialists work both to match their skills with the employer needs and to secure permanent job opportunities for them. Enrollees continue on job sites until they find permanent jobs. the career ladder. After each month of retaining their jobs, participants are eligible for Rapid Rewards: financial incentives that help keep them connected to the labor force and to supportive services.
6 NYC CEO s New York City flagship, headquartered in lower Manhattan, houses its executive and administrative offices. CEO s Training Center, located in the Bronx, offers vocational and educational training services for program participants. At the Training Center, CEO offers short-term, industry-driven trainings to build skills in construction (OSHA 10 and scaffolding), warehousing, computer basics and sanitation. The Center also helps participants advance their education with classes preparing them for the high school equivalency exam. CEO offers longer-term training in the skilled trades through a partnership with Hostos Community College in the Bronx. CEO provides academic preparation and ongoing support to help participants succeed in training at Hostos, then connects them to private sector jobs in the trades after they obtain their certificates. In FY 2012, 50 participants received certificates in plumbing or electricity through this training. * *FY 2012 represents CEO s Fiscal Year beginning, July 1, 2011 and ending June 30, $10.00 AVERAGE 12 WAGE 180 DAY RETENTION 58% 360 DAY RETENTION 46%
