PROCESS AUTOMATION RIDE THE WAVE WIRELESS SENSING WITH WirelessHART

WAVE RIDERS WITH REAL TEAM SPIRIT WIRELESS MEASURING AND MONITORING WirelessHART products allow the installation of measuring devices without incurring the effort and costs for cable and associated hardware. Furthermore, new applications are possible in situations where existing installation techniques were very difficult or impossible. Below are just a few examples of possible applications. TEMPERATURE The temperature of motors, pumps, cooling devices, and other resources need to be monitored continuously to ensure they are operating effectively. A simple WirelessHART temperature sensor can be used to detect and diagnose problem situations long before they result in failures and influence plant availability. CORROSION Corrosion is usually measured along very long pipelines located at remote plant locations that are difficult to monitor and wire. With WirelessHART, monitoring instruments can be placed at important measurement points along pipelines in places that previously could not be reached. It also enables reliable communication in plants with moving vehicles and changes in construction. LEVEL CONTROL Level monitoring devices are frequently located on top of very large storage vessels and process tanks. WirelessHART makes it easier and more cost effective to monitor the levels in process and storage tanks by eliminating the need to manually take and record the measurements. With the inclusion of multiple instruments, the wireless network reliably covers large geographic areas. www.pepperl-fuchs.com/wirelesshart

RIDING THE WAVES WITH TEAM SPIRIT From Wi-Fi to bluetooth wireless technologies have become an everyday aspect of our lives. With the WirelessHART standard, wireless communication is now reaching the process automation world. WirelessHART is based on the established HART protocol, which makes it easy to integrate into any existing fieldbus infrastructure. AT A GLANCE WirelessHART: Is an open and interoperative standard Is based upon the established HART protocol Uses known tools and procedures for configuration, maintenance and diagnosis Requires only little additional training efforts Allows wireless access to existing field devices Can be used worldwide without any license INTELLIGENT NETWORK STRUCTURE WirelessHART networks are structured as mesh networks where each sensor acts both as router and repeater. In this way, the range of the network does not depend on one central gateway, allowing the setup of large distributed network structures. In the case of interrupted communication paths, the system automatically re-routes the signal in order to maintain uninterrupted communication. This results in a high level of availability on the wireless network. WirelessHART networks are able to use multiple communication paths simultaneously to enable a considerably higher data transfer rate. WirelessHART is an intelligent solution tailored especially to the requirements of the process industry.

ON THE WAY TO NEW COASTS New horizons: WirelessHART increases the application spectrum Successful wave riding: Wireless communication monitors plants Whenever wired connections are too costly, offer insufficient reliability or are simply impossible to install, WirelessHART opens new opportunities. The new WirelessHART components from Pepperl+Fuchs eliminate wiring and integrate conventional field devices into the wireless world. READY FOR DEMANDING EVERYDAY LIFE WirelessHART GATEWAY The WirelessHART Gateway is the core element of a wireless mesh network. The Gateway sets up the communication paths and determines when and over which channel the individual devices within the network communicate with each other. The primary focus of this process is the best-possible use of the network resources in order to gain maximum performance in speed, data transfer and energy consumption. Additionally, the WirelessHART Gateway serves as the interface between the mesh network and the plant's process control or asset management system. It features a serial RS485 interface and an Ethernet terminal. Both interfaces allow data transmission in full accordance with Modbus or the HART protocol.

lled navigation: Self-healing sh network Land in sight: Direct connection to existing networks Team spirit: Everyone communicates with everyone WirelessHART Adapter The WirelessHART Adapter can be connected directly to the interface of any conventional HART device or conventional 4 20 ma device. The adapter is battery operated and can also power the connected field device. Since it operates as a router within the mesh network, it constantly remains powered. The field device, however, is only powered during the actual communication process. Depending on the power requirement, the operating voltage required by the field device and the measuring cycle, operating times of several years can be achieved. This results in maximum independence and flexibility. WirelessHART Temperature Converter The WirelessHART Temperature Converter offers terminals for the connection of RTD or TC temperature sensors and is designed to transfer measurements directly to the network. This field device acts as a router within the mesh network and is also battery operated. Temperature measurements can be obtained at variable time intervals. This allows efficient energy utilization and unattended operation for many years before the battery needs to be replaced.
