Information Premier Mortars manufactures ready-to-use mortars from carefully selected clean sands (fine aggregate) conforming to the requirements of BS13139. Pigments conforming to BS EN 12878 are added accurately at the factory to produce an extensive range of colours and shades. All mortars produced conform to the requirements of BS EN 998-2. Protective measures Ready-to-use mortars require minimal maintenance beyond good site practice. However, as a guideline: Mortar should be protected against excessive wet or drying conditions. Newly erected masonry should be covered at the end of the working day or if rained off. Normally delivered early morning, all screeds are retarded in order to remain workable for up 12 hours. Suitable bases Premier Mortars ready to lay screeds are suitable for use on: n Solid concrete ground floor slabs n Reinforced precast concrete units and beams n In situ suspended floors n Topping to lightweight screeds Site storage Screeds should be tipped onto a clean, dry area and sheeted to protect from the elements. Preparation The base substrate must be clean and free from lime, gypsum, plaster, dust, dirt, oil and grease. The base should be swept to remove all loose material and wetted with clean water. Just prior to laying a bonding agent should be applied to the substrate. Compatibility Premier Mortars screeds are compatible with all normal building materials, but wet cementitious materials may attack certain materials e.g. aluminium. Effects of frost Premier Mortars screeds are not designed to be exposed to the elements and should be protected in cold weather. No antifreeze or accelerating admixtures should be added to the screed. Health and safety Contact with wet cement or wet cement materials can cause severe burns and contact dermatitis.
