Accessing your free online journals on the BILD website as part of your BILD membership Individual BILD members have free online access to either the British Journal of Learning Disabilities (BJLD) or the Journal of Applied Research into Intellectual Disabilities (JARID). Organisational members get free online access to both. 1. You ll need to be logged in to the BILD website You must log in to the BILD website each time you want to access the journals because this assures the publisher, Wiley, that you have permission. Each journal page is connected to our membership database and this is checked automatically each time you log in. Log in either by going to the journal page direct (see 2, below) and log in when asked, or log in to the website on the front page by clicking on either of the two log in links shown below and then going to the journals page, where you ll go straight in: To log in you ll need to use your username (which is your six-digit member ID number) and password, these were sent to you by email after joining or renewing, if you don t have them contact Pam Mazurek on 0121 415 6983 or p.mazurek@bild.or.uk You can change your password by going to the My Account page under the Log In menu. 2. Go to the right page There are separate pages for BJLD and JARID. You can go direct to the page by following the link below (or copying and pasting it into your browser s url address bar): www.bild.org.uk/memberbjld www.bild.org.uk/memberjarid BILD membership s online journals 1
Or you can go to the BILD members information page and click on the link to each journal on that page: On the member page you ll see links to each of the journals. Following either route, if you re not logged in you will be asked to do so. BILD membership s online journals 2
3. Am I in? Look for the open padlock! You should now see your journal, served by the Wiley Online Library into the BILD page. To check that you are properly logged in, look for an open padlock beside each journal title, if that s there, then you are in and can access your journal by selecting the edition you re interested in, opening the articles and reading them on the page, or downloading them as PDFs. The open padlock also displays beside individual articles on the contents pages of each edition. 4. Problems? Not seeing the open padlock? Are you using Internet Explorer? We ve experienced no problems accessing journals in the Wiley Online Library in either the Firefox or Chrome browsers. We have though had problems with Internet Explorer because of the different way it handles session cookies. There is an easy way round this to make this work in Explorer, you just need to tell it that the Wiley Online Library is one of your trusted sites. You do this in Internet Explorer by going to the Tools menu and down to Internet Options: BILD membership s online journals 3
Click on the Security tab, then click on the green arrow Trusted Sites graphic then on the Sites button. BILD membership s online journals 4

Click the close button and then the OK button in the Internet Options dialogue box You may need to refresh the window in Internet Explorer press the F5 key at the top of your keyboard or close the window an open Internet Explorer and login again, for the change to take effect.
