Downloading Library ebooks to a Nook* with Adobe Digital Editions *And other non-kindle e-readers.
1 Download free Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software to your personal computer. Do NOT connect your device to your computer until step 4. Go to the library s website at www.derbylibrary.com. Click on the Sunflower elibrary Icon. Click on Adobe Digital Editions Software (Link) under Nook Help. Download either the Digital Edition Macintosh or the Digital Edition Windows by clicking the name. Click Save File. A File Download box is displayed or find your downloads folder and double click the ADE Installer Icon which may look like this. A Security Warning dialog box may open. Click the Run button to begin the installation. To allow program to run click yes. To continue, select I Accept. Click the Next button. Click the Next button again and then click Install. Click Close to exit the wizard. Adobe Digital Editions should open automatically.
If not prompted, click the Help button and then click Authorize Computer. If you don t have an Adobe ID, creating one is free and only takes a few minutes. Click the Create an Adobe ID link. Fill out the required fields and click Create. This will allow you to open authorized files on up to five devices with the same ADE Account
2 Check out an ebook Go to the library s website at www.derbylibrary.com and click on the Sunflower elibrary icon, then click on the Sunflower elibrary banner at the top of the page. Sign in with your 14 digit library card number and your pin number (last 4 of your phone number). Search for a title using the search box at the top of the screen. You can limit to ebooks (EPUB, PDF, Open EPUB, or open PDF) in the Advanced Search option, or by using the filters on the left side of the results screen.
Click on the book cover image of the book you would like to check out. Click the Borrow button to the right of the cover image.
3 Download Click the Download drop menu next to the cover and select Adobe EPUB or Adobe PDF. Click Confirm and Download. If prompted, choose to Open with Adobe Digital Editions. Click OK. Adobe Digital Editions should open automatically. Note: You can also download titles currently checked out to your account by selecting the Account button at the top of the screen and then clicking the Bookshelf button at the right side of the screen.
3 Transfer the ebook to your Nook Connect your Nook to your computer using the USB cable and turn it on. It should appear in your Adobe Digital Editions library page as show below. Note: The first time you connect your Nook to the computer, you may be prompted to authorize this device. Enter the Adobe ID and password you used to create your Adobe account.
Click on the All Items tab under Bookshelves on the left side of the screen and your downloaded books will appear as covers to the right. Right-click the cover of the book you would like to transfer to your Nook, select Copy to Computer/Device, then click Nook.
5 Where to find the files on your Nook: On the Nook, EPUBS are stored in a different folder than the books you purchase from Barnes and Noble. The EPUBS books are stored under My Library in My Documents, and the Barnes and Noble books are stored under My Library in the My B&N Library. 6 To return ebooks early: To remove an ebook from your library account, you must return it from your computer and your Nook. Turn on your Nook and plug it into your computer via USB cord. Open Adobe Digital Editions. Click the Nook icon to view your Nook s ebook library. Right click on the cover of the title image. Select Return Borrowed Item. Click Return. Once the book disappears from the Nook library, click on the All Items bookshelf in Adobe Digital Editions. Find the book you wish to return and right click on the cover of the title image. Select Return Borrowed Item. Click Return.
Optionally Use OverDrive Read OverDrive Read is a new in-browser ebook reader. It is designed to work in the web browser of any mobile, portable or desktop computer, and works just like any ebook reading app without the need to activate or install extra software. Borrow an OverDrive ebook from your library, as outlined earlier in the pages of this document. When you reach the final checkout step, click Read (in your browser).
