Decorated with applied oak mouldings and marquetry inlay but we have used boxwood, pear and mahogany veneers in place of the bone that would have been used on the original. Solid oak partners desk inspired by Samuel Pepys library This 17th century style solid European oak partner s desk has been made by hand in our own workshops. The design has been inspired by a desk illustrated in Victor Chinnery s book: Oak Furniture The British Tradition. The original was made for Samuel Pepys the diarist. The top is inlaid with the finest quality Scottish hand-dyed hide. The sides are panelled with hand carved moulding around each panel, this is repeated along the underside of the top and around each pedestal base. The pedestals sit on bun feet. The central drawer has a hand-made lock and the handles are English made from solid brass. Oak pedestal desk A very handsome looking pedestal desk, which has been hand made using specially selected European Oak timbers. The desk has been inspired by the English vernacular furniture tradition, as documented by Victor Chinnery is his book Oak Furniture, An English Tradition. The top is inlaid with the finest quality Scottish hand-dyed hide. The sides are panelled with hand carved moulding around each panel, this is repeated along the underside of the top and around each pedestal base. All three desk top drawers are fully lockable, and the bottom pedestal drawers on the right hand side function as a filing cabinet. There are 5 drawers on the left side and 2 drawers on the right with a filing drawer below. The reverse is finished in the same way but the drawers are false. Solid Oak Parquetry Cabinet Early 17 century style sideboard with canted sides and front panels on bun feet. The carving has been taken from a cabinet illustrated in Victor Chinnery s book Oak Furniture the British Tradition. It has three drawers the panel and drawer face on either end are false. The internal space is open with one long shelf accessed by three opening doors. A Solid Oak Cupboard An entirely hand made solid oak cupboard, very much in the classic English antique furniture tradition. This piece has been made using traditional furniture making techniques, including dovetail detail joins and hand pegging and gluing. The planked top is glued and pegged and has been hand distressed prior to finishing in a manner which mimics the distressing on original antique oak pieces like this. The doors of the cupboard are decorated with an interesting geometric parquetry design, in complimentary coloured and grained strips and sections of fruit woods. These parquet pieces are entirely hand cut, and as such are a good deal thicker than the veneers which would be used on a similar oak cupboard with machine cut parquetry. The Samuel Pepy s solid oak bookcase An entirely hand made solid oak rise and fall television cabinet, very much in the English antique furniture tradition. The cabinet functions as a standard oak sideboard, with two functioning drawers and cupboard beneath with a single shelf. In a section behind the doors and drawers is the rise and fall mechanism which will hold a flat screen television, up to 42. The top of the piece is in two parts; the front section is fixed, while the back lifts up when the rise and fall mechanism is activated. The cupboard will hold the additional accessories of a dvd player and digi box. The doors have a decorative gothic style round top arched panel, and the piece is decorated with colloquial English style hand carved details. Pepys was concerned with the safety of his fine bookbindings, probably the reason he commissioned the famous series of twelve oak bookcases which were bequeathed to Magdalene College, Cambridge on condition that the contents remained intact and unaltered. Our replica is hand crafted from carefully selected oak timbers with 54 individual panes of glass, hand carved detailing, adjustable shelves in the upper section and English brass carrying handles.
