1 Introduction SuccessMaker Enterprise is an innovative deployment of SuccessMaker courseware and the ResultsManager management system that focuses on reading and mathematics curriculum for the Pre-K to 8th grade education sector. This technology-driven solution meets the needs of districts and schools, regardless of size and infrastructure. ResultsManager, the management system component of SuccessMaker Enterprise, offers a choice of two user interfaces to accommodate individual working styles. It also integrates industry-standard reporting software to provide reports that are easy to read and well-organized. The SuccessMaker curriculum, aligned with national, state, and local standards and objectives, has a proven track record for delivering the results that the educators need. According to the National Education Technology Plan from the U.S. Department of Education, the most recent research and evaluation studies demonstrate that school improvement programs that employ technology for teaching and learning yield positive results for both students and teachers. Within the school market today, a wide variety of technology implementations exist, from the single computer in the back of the classroom to a laptop in the hands of every student in the school. SuccessMaker Enterprise is packaged to address all such technology implementations with four scalable delivery configurations. SuccessMaker Enterprise offers these configurations to suit the needs of students and teachers. The configurations are flexible and scalable, allowing customers to augment initial investments with additional options as their schools evolve and grow. This document provides detailed information about system requirements and network capacities. The system recommendations contained in this document are subject to change at any time due to hardware and software changes beyond the control of Pearson Digital Learning. Changes may include, but are not limited to, operating systems and hardware technologies dictated by the market. The descriptions of the hardware used to support a SuccessMaker Enterprise School or SuccessMaker Enterprise District installation are given below. 1

Introduction Windows Workstation A Windows workstation is a personal computer running Microsoft Windows, functioning either as a stand-alone unit or a workstation linked to a local area network (LAN). This computer is used by students and teachers to access Pearson Digital Learning educational software. Management system functions can also be performed on this workstation. To view the system requirements for a Windows workstation, see Windows Workstations on page 5. NOTE: If you use the new Math Concepts and Skills 2 course, your system needs more memory to accommodate the technology. See Windows Workstations on page 5. Macintosh Workstation A Macintosh workstation is a Macintosh-based personal computer, linked to a local area network (LAN). This computer is used by students and teachers to access Pearson Digital Learning educational software. Most management system functions can also be performed on this workstation. To view the system requirements for a Macintosh workstation, see Macintosh Workstations on page 7. NOTE: If you use the new Math Concepts and Skills 2 course, your system needs more memory to accommodate the technology. The Math Concepts and Skills 2 is Mac OS X Nativecompatible. It will not run on Mac OS 9.x. See Macintosh Workstations on page 7. Home Access Workstation A Home Access workstation is a Windows-based or a Macintosh-based personal computer, functioning from home, for use with SuccessMaker Enterprise District s Home Access module. This workstation must have an Internet connection and must use a standard, non-customized Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser. To view the system requirements for a Windows-based Home Access workstation, see Windows Workstations on page 5. To view the system requirements for a Macintosh-based Home Access workstation, see Macintosh Workstations on page 7. 2

Introduction SuccessMaker Enterprise Local Server The SuccessMaker Enterprise local server is a high-speed computer in a local area network (LAN) dedicated to storing the programs and data files needed at the site level to use the SuccessMaker Enterprise product. To view the system requirements for the server, see SuccessMaker Enterprise Local Server on page 9. SuccessMaker Enterprise Central Server The central server is a District-level server for the SuccessMaker Enterprise District product. A LAN workstation is required to be connected to the central server for running an aggregate report. To view the system requirements for the server, see SuccessMaker Enterprise Central Server on page 10. SuccessMaker Enterprise Task Manager Workstation A Task Manager workstation is a Windows-based personal computer, used to manage the database replication activities and to manage backing up servers in the replicating environment of SuccessMaker Enterprise District. To view the system requirements for a Task Manager workstation, see SuccessMaker Enterprise Task Manager Workstation on page 11. Print Service Workstation A print service workstation is a Windows-based personal computer, configured to print reports from SuccessMaker clients on Macintosh in a Novell NetWare server environment. To view the system requirements for a print service workstation, see Print Service Workstation for Novell NetWare Server on page 12. 3

Introduction SuccessMaker Enterprise Web Server The Web server is a server used for the SuccessMaker Enterprise District product s Home Access module. To view the system requirements for the server, see SuccessMaker Enterprise Web Server on page 13. NOTE: For the most up-to-date versions of all system requirements, refer to the Pearson Digital Learning Web site at: http://www.pearsondigital.com/successmaker. 4
