PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION Class 59,59B,59C,59D, 60, 60A ENTRY FEE: $4 per section (this permits four prints/slides in a section) Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008 Wednesday, August 6, 2008 Please read the General Rules and Information on pages 4-8. All entries must be made on printed entry form found at the end of this book. An image may be entered into only one class, 59, 59B, 59C, 59D, 60, 60A. The exhibitor must decide as to the class and section in which to enter their prints. Entry tags will not be mailed to exhibitors. Judging will be done by a committee of at least three and not more than five qualified persons. Competition results will be available at the Canada Building during the Fair and on the release of exhibit dates. AWARDS BEST PHOTOGRAPHER IN SHOW Award - The following points system will be used in the Photography Competition. 1st 5 pts 2nd 4 pts 3rd 3 pts 4th 2 pts Award of Merit 1 pt *Highest cumulative total of the Judges' scores will be deemed Best Photographer in Show and receive a merchandise certificate valued at $250.00 courtesy of Stan C. Reade Photo, 727 Richmond Street, London, ON. *Cumulative score is totalled from 1) Classes 59 +59C +59D AWARD OF MERIT PHOTOGRAPHER - This award will be given to those exhibitors with a cumulative total score of 20 points, or higher based on the Judge's scores for his or her entries in classes 59, 59C, 59D, of the Photography Competition Special by Western Fair, C.A.P.A. and McKittrick s Ltd. - BEST PRINT IN SHOW The winner of Best Print in Class 59 will receive an additional award of $35 from the Western Fair. A bronze medal from C.A.P.A. (Canadian Association of Photographic Art) and the winners name will be added to the Best Print Trophy by McKittrick s Limited. Please note: The Best Print becomes the property of the Western Fair but will be on loan for display at McKittrick s Limited, 236 Dundas Street, London, Ontario. PEOPLE S CHOICE? Vote for your favourite photo. Ballot boxes located in the Photography exhibit area of the Canada Building. Winning photo will be awarded a People s Choice Rosette on the last weekend of the Fair.

PRINT COMPETITION - Class 59 ENTRY FEE: $4 per section. (Fee includes four prints per section) Prize Money: 1st $30; 2nd $25; 3rd $20; 4th $15 Please read General Rules and Information pages 4-8. Print Size minimum 20cm x 25cm (8 x 10 ) Maximum 40cm x 51cm (16 x 20 ) Matt Size 16 x 20. This is the backing to which you stick your print. Print must be firmly attached to the matt board with double sided tape, liquid paste adhesive or spray adhesive. It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure print is securely fastened to the matt board or foam core. Acceptance stickers will be placed on the back of all prints hung. Photos in Class 59, section 5 and Class 59B section 1, must be accompanied by a 5-10 word description on 2 x 5 card stock paper either typed or neatly written (i.e. Where the image was taken, geography, time of day, building name, funny incident etc.) Please attach to back of mount board using only invisible tape as the description will be moved from the back of mount board to visible location during Fair for display. 1. ANIMALS & BIRDS - Live Animals and birds including household pets, farm and domesticated animals and/or fowl, zoo housed animals and/or birds. Prize money in this section sponsored by Stan C. Reade Photo, 727 Richmond Street, London ON. 2. ARCHITECTURAL OR INDUSTRIAL STUDY - Any man-made structure or industrial setting. Building, bridge, machinery or equipment, any age. 3. HUMAN INTEREST - Person or persons involved in activities not included in any other section. 4. NATURE STUDY - Live fauna and flora in its natural environment. Note: No subject should show human impact. Road, house, fence, cultivated plant, domestic animal or people. Prize money in this section sponsored by McKittricks Limited, 236 Dundas Street and Cherryhill Mall, London, ON. 5. PICTORIAL - Landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes. ABSTRACTS & PATTERNS - Special techniques, unusual design, pictorial design. 7. PORTRAIT - Of a person. 8. STILL LIFE - Inanimate subjects such as glassware, garden plants, fruits etc.

FIRST TIME ENTRANT - Class 59B ENTRY FEE: $4 per section. This entry fee is per exhibitor, per section and permits up to four prints in a section. Prize Money: 1st $30, 2nd $25, 3rd $20, 4th $15 Please read General Rules and Information on pages 4-8. Who is a First Time Entrant? Prize winners from previous years are not eligible. Any exhibitor entering this class cannot compete in any print class other than First Time Entrant Class 59B. Print Size minimum 20cm x 25cm (8 x 10 ) Maximum 40cm x 51cm (16 x 20 ) All prints in this section must be an appropriate sized black and white or colour print on a (16" x 20") standard mount. Photos in Class 59B section 1, must be accompanied by a 5-10 word description on 2 x 5 card stock paper either typed or neatly written (i.e. Where the image was taken, geography, time of day, building name, funny incident etc.) Please attach to back of mount board using only invisible tape as the description will be moved from the back of mount board to visible location during Fair for display. 1. PICTORIAL - Landscapes, seascapes, snow scenes. Please see above notation (In Bold) for this section. 2. HUMAN INTEREST - Person or persons involved in activities not included in any other section. The 1 st place winner in this section will receive a C.A.P.A. Rosette courtesy of C.A.P.A. (Canadian Association for Photographic Art). 3. PETS AND ANIMALS - Live animals and birds including household pets, farm and domesticated animals and/or fowl, zoo housed animals and/or birds.

Print size minimum 20cm X 25cm (8 X 10 ) Print size maximum 40cm X 51cm (16 X 20 ) Print to be mounted on a 16 (40cm) X 20 (51cm) piece of matt board or foam core. A description should be included with the entry form describing the animal and it s habitat. Section and Description 1. FARM ANIMALS Any appropriate sized black and white or colour print on a 16 (40cm) X 20 (51cm) standard mount, portraying Images of live farm animals. 2009 Theme to be revealed at the Annual Fair. CREATIVE EXPRESSION - Class 59D

How Far Can You Push the Envelope using your computer savvy, take a photograph and make it a one-of-a-kind creation by manipulating it using computer software. Photos may be altered to portray Humour, Beauty, Expressionism, etc. FROM MY PHOTO ALBUM - Class 60

ENTRY FEE: $4 (Fee allows for as few as 1 or as many as 5 photos in this class) Prize Money: 1st $5; 2nd $4; 3rd $3 This competition does not accept entries from professional photographers, (those who earn money for their photography). Only 4 x 6 size photos will be accepted. Photos will be judged on correlation to the category and viewer appeal. Photo to be mounted on 8 x 10 piece of Bristol board. Mount will be stapled or taped to a wall or display board. Exhibitor may enter every section, but may make only one entry per section. All photos must be taken by the exhibitor, within the last 2 calendar years. 1. HUMOROUS SNAPSHOT - Tickle our funny bone. 2. OH BABY! - Parents and Grandparents can t take enough pictures of a beautiful new baby. Show off your offspring! Include baby s first name under photo. 3. WESTERN FAIR FUN (taken 2006 or 2007) - Every year thousands of people have fun at our Fair and we want to see how much fun you re having! 4. PETS/ANIMALS - Bring in those oh so cute photos of furry (or not so furry) domestic and wild animals! 5. VACATION FUN We all love going on vacation. Whether it s camping or Disney World, you can take us there too in the pictures you ve taken! JUNIOR PRINT COMPETITION Class 60A

PICTURE STORY Entry Fee $4.00. This entry fee is per exhibitor and permits up to 2 entries. Prize Money 1 st $30, 2 nd $25, 3 rd $20, 4 th $15 Prize money in this section sponsored by SCL Digital London, 75-41 Adelaide St. N., London, ON. Junior: any individual 17 years of age or younger as of January 1 st, 2008. An entry consists of one matt board with 3 pictures mounted on it that tell a story. Please read General Rules and Information pages 4-8. Print Size (3 Pictures per board) Matt Size 16 x 20. This is the backing to which you stick your print. Prints must be firmly attached to the matt board with double sided tape, liquid paste adhesive or spray adhesive. It is the responsibility of the photographer to ensure print is securely fastened to the matt board or foam core. Acceptance stickers will be placed on the back of all prints hung. 3 Pictures per board can be placed on the matt board any way the exhibitor likes. A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS Competition is open to individuals 17 years of age or younger. 1. Colour or black & white photographs accepted. Collection of 3 pictures that tell a story.
