Its purpose is to prevent the parent machine from starting before the material in the applicator tank is molten and ready to be dispensed. Although the yellow LED on the tank channel indicates when the tank walls have reached application temperature-- the LED begins flashing-- it typically takes 15-20 minutes longer, depending upon the adhesive used, for all of the adhesive in the tank to reach this same temperature. The PM1 is essentially a time delay which takes this difference into account. It begins timing when the tank walls have reached application temperature (at this point the ternperature controller is proportioning and the tank's yellow LED is flashing). It completes its time-delay cycle when the number of minutes for which it is set (determined from experience with the adheseive) have passed. At the end of the delay period, the PM1 actuates two contact closures on the interlock board. These may be used to control the parent machine and/or an indicator light. On Series 2000 electric drive units, where the PM1 is standard, one of the contact closures is used to illuminate the READY indicator on the applicator's front panel and to supply power to the pump MOTOR RUN switch (as shown in the wiring diagram in the electric drive applicator manual). The other contact closure may be used to operate some remote device if the customer wishes. NOTE: The interlock contacts are rated for 5 amps at 240 VAC (resistive load) or l/8 HP motor load. 59-36-2 0 P&A Division Atlanta, Georgia TECHNICAL PUB1 /CA l/on Pre-Installation Check for Circuit Board Compatilbility Field installation of the Parent Machine Interlock requires that the applicator's front panel circuit board be equipped with a conlnector to receive the interlock's Plug* Because this connector was added to the front panel circuit board after the Series 2000 Applicators had been in production over a year, it will be necessary to make a check to see of the unit has the newer type of board with the required connector. The Series 2000 hot melt applicators contain energized electrical components with potentials that could be fatal. Although the check performed in Step 1 does not require physical contact with components in the electrical cabinet, the cabinet should not opened without first disconnecting and locking out input electrical power. 1. Disconnect and lock out input electrical power. Remove the electrical enclosure and look at the front panel board, which is located directly behind the front panel of the unit. The required connector and its position on two-hose units is shown in Figure 2; on four hose units the position of the connector is different but the connector itself will be easily recognizable. If the board has a connector, proceed to the installation instructions; if not, proceed to Step 2. If the board does not have the required connector, it will be necessary to order a new front panel board (P/N 275 129 for two-hose units; P/N 939 575 for four-hose units). In addition, it will be necessary to recalibrate the new circuit board after it is installed. A Field Calibration Kit (P/N 275 436) must be ordered for this purpose. Instructions for calibration come with the kit. Installation The Series 2000 hot melt applicators contain energized electrical components with potentials that couldl be fatal. Disconnect external power to the applicator. Remove the electrical enclosure. Locate terminal block TB-2, the eight-station terminal block near the center of the cabinet floor. Remove the two mounting screws that fasten TB-2 to the applicator base. Lift TB-2 and insert the interlock assembly beneath it with the interlock circuit board facing the open end of the enclosure. Fasten the interlock mounting bracket to the base of the applicator using the two screws provided with the interlock. Fasten TB-2 to the top of the interlock mounting bracket with the screws removed in Step 3. Insert the interlock's electrical plug into the three-pronged, keyed connector located on the front panel board (see Figure 2). Set the adjustment knob on the interlock circuit board to the estimated melting time in minutes for the adhesive lbeing used. This setting can be changed as experience dictates. If new front panel boards have been installed, recalibrate the boards with a Field Calibration Kit (P/N 275 436). Route the leads from the remote device (or devices) in through the power cord assess hole in the base of the electrical enclosure and connect them to the contact closure (or closures) on TBl elf the interlock board. On standard 2000 Applicators there are two contact closures, one across terminals 1 and 4 on the interlock (see Figure 1) and the other across terminals 2 and 3. On Electric Drive 2000 Applicators thlere is just one contact closure available for customer use. Replace the electrical enclosure cover. Reconnect external power and resume normal operation.
