In addition we have made suggestions for possible visits to enhance your time in this learning zone. It allows you to establish dates for initial, intermediate and final interviews in advance, whilst establishing key points of your learning contract with your mentor. Using this document along with one of our year specific competency booklets, we hope to provide a useful framework for your time here in order to fulfil your learning experience The Education Resource box (black box) is also a valuable resource for you to use. Here on ward 8 we appreciate that learning is a multi-directional process and we welcome this concept. Your mentor will show you around the ward and ensure you are familiar with nurse call system fire and cardiac arrest procedures. It may not always be possible to work with your mentor, but this will give you the opportunity to experience different approaches to care. ORGANISATION OF THE WARD Various shift patterns are currently in practice on Ward 8, most staff work 2 long days and two short days, the long day is from 07:30 20:00, short days are early 07:30 15:15 and 12:15 20:00, Nights are 19:30 08:00.
