How to progress through the ACA There are 15 papers in the ACA qualification. 6 CFAB papers (also called Certificate Level) which are Computer Based Exams with a 55% pass mark. 6 Professional level exams, with sittings in March, June, September and December and a 55% pass mark. 3 Advanced level papers with sittings in July and November with a 50% pass mark. Students can progress through the papers in any order they wish. Common routes are to sit all CFAB papers before sitting the Professional level papers (the tiered approach ) or to pair up CFAB papers with Professional papers and work through CFAB and Professional at the same time ( pillar approach). There is also a choice about whether to decouple the Advanced Case Study from the other two Advanced Level papers. Students who choose to sit the Advanced Case Study separately from the other two Advance Level papers ensure they give the Case Study sufficient attention. ACA/CTA joint programme The ICAEW and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) have created a Joint Programme which enables students to achieve both ACA and CTA qualifications. The joint programme offers two routes through which students can either specialise in the tax affairs of FTSE 350 companies or other large corporates, or in Indirect Tax, from the start of their training. BPP offers courses for the large corporates route. By sitting a Taxation of Major Corporates paper instead of Business Planning Tax and then a further CTA paper, students will be both ACA and CTA qualified providing they have undertaken relevant professional work experience. The Taxation of Major Corporates paper is available to the July and November ICAEW sittings.
