Welcome to the second thematic seminar On behalf of the city of Linköping we would like to welcome you to the 3x20 Network s second thematic seminar, which is titled New Technical Solutions to Enhance Energy Efficiency. Alike previous meetings, the event will be a great opportunity to gain new knowledge and exchange experiences with our european colleagues. This event will address energy issues - one of the most important items on the European agenda right now. During three days politicians & local authorities, researchers and private actors will be given the opportunity to share expertise and good practice concerning the promotion of technical solutions to enhance energy efficiency. Presentation of the keynote speakers Louise Trygg Associate Professor, Linköping University Louise Trygg is associate Professor at Linköping University. Trygg s research focuses on municipal and regional energy systems and she is currently active in the research programme Energy Systems at Linköping University. She is also engaged in several external research projects such as Optimal district heating systems and Efficient energy use in practice. Trygg is an active lecturer within her Department, she is Director of studies and a member of the institution of the Board at Linköping University. Björn-Ola Linnér Professor, Linköping University Björn-Ola Linnér is Professor at the Department of Water and Environmental Studies at Linköping University. Since 2006 he is Director of Centre for Climate Science and Policy (CSPR). Linnér s own research focuses on international policy on climate change, food security and sustainable development. Linnér is an active participant in the international climate negotiations and in 2007 he was a member of the Swedish delegation at the adaptation and approval of the Fourth Assessment Synthesis Report of the International Panel on Climate Change. Linnér has been visiting scholar at the University of Kansas, the University of California- Santa Cruz and Boston University. He has published extensively within his field and has received a number of awards and recognitions. Gert Kindgren Chairman, Cleantech Östergötland Gert Kindgren is Chairman of Cleantech Östergötland, which is a business-oriented collaborative arena for Östergötlands environmental technology companies. As Chairman Kindgren has the task of building a regional business arena for environmental technology where primary tasks include coordinating, creating business value and spreading information. Teodor Hovenberg Energy Strategist, AB Stångåstaden Teodor Hovenberg is the energy strategist at AB Stångåstaden, a municipalityowned company in Linköping, managing 18 500 apartments. Hovenberg s main responsibility is to identify, analyze and monitor the energy consumption associated to the companies properties. In collaboration with property managers and project managers Hovenberg is also active in initiating and managing energy conservation projects within the company in order to achieve its ambitious energy efficiency targets.

Presentation of the workshop sessions on January 20, 2011. During the discussion in the workshops participants are encouraged to try to identify areas that can enhance the possibilities for future cooperation. Cooperation between municipalities and researchers Workshop 1. Target audience: Researchers and R&D civil servants in public organizations. The workshop will allow researchers and civil servants responsible for R&D to exchange experiences in order to benefit from each others good practices. How can cooperation between local authorities and research institutions support new technical solutions? Clean tech / Development of new technical solutions in SME Workshop 3. Target audience: Environmental coordinators in private enterprises. In this workshop we will focus on new technical solutions in small and medium sized enterprises (SME). The session will allow participants to exchange best practices in order to gain insights into how to support technological development in SME. Energy efficiency in apartment buildings Workshop 2. Target audience: Environmental managers and energy coordinators in public organizations. In this workshop we will focus on energy efficiency in apartment buildings. The session will allow participants to exchange good practices and to share examples of policies and concrete projects that have been implemented in respective organization. The session will for instance cover how energy targets are set in public organizations and how work is/should be structured around these issues. Governance and management Workshop 4. Target audience: Politicians. This workshop will address governance and management of climate- and energy strategies at the local level. How can the European Union s climate and energy targets (20-20-20) best be put into practice in the local context? How can energy issues be raised onto the local political agenda?
