The Value of Specialty Medications: An Employer s Perspective Louise Chénier, Manager, Workplace Health and Wellness Research, The Conference Board of Canada Suzanne Lepage, Private Health Plan Strategist, Suzanne Lepage Consulting Inc. Employers have many difficult benefits plan choices, particularly as they relate to specialty medications. While the high costs of such medications are known, there s little information on the benefits these medications may bring employees and their employers. To address this knowledge gap, in 2014 the Conference Board launched an in-depth study on the return on investment of specialty medications. The Board s study assessed specialty medications in 5

This was the question Ann Dowsett Johnston posed to dozens of women. Not one woman chose alcoholic. Why? The stigma was too overwhelming. For 20 years, scientists have known that alcohol addiction is a chronic, relapsing brain disease. While there has been strong national leadership around stigma and mental health, the voices on addiction have been silent. Ann s page on the National Speakers Bureau Web site Based on her own experiences, Ann will explore the issues related to alcoholism, and recommend how to create workplace policies and practices to deal with this important health and productivity challenge. 9
