Day 04: 16 Feb (Tue) HANOI - HALF DAY MORNING CITY TOUR, HOA LO PRISON & ORPHANAGE VISIT AFTERNOON Begin the morning with a visit to the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and learn about the man who led Vietnam s campaign for independence from French colonial rule. After dedicating his life to the liberation of his country from foreign rule, Ho Chi Minh died in 1969 and his body was preserved for posterity. Every October the mausoleum is closed for a month and Uncle Ho is given a bit of a spruce up! Explore the grounds to see the one pillar pagoda and the presidential palace. Next, visit the Hoa Lo Prison used by the French colonists in Vietnam for political prisoners and later by North Vietnam for prisoners of war during the Vietnam War when it was sarcastically known to American prisoners of war as the Hanoi Hilton. Hoan Kiem Lake Take a breezy cyclo ride through the Old Quarter s 36 streets, named for the products that were sold from their shops. Today, vendors on Tin and Bamboo Streets still sell the same wares. After lunch, you transfer to the Birla Orphanage center where Pearl S. Buck International Child Sponsors are helping more than 100 children chart a brighter future. You will have a full afternoon at the center. In the late afternoon, you will return to your hotel to relax before departing at 7 pm for dinner at a local restaurant. Traditional Water Puppets Begin your evening with a trip to Hanoi s famous Water Puppetry Show, a stunning showcase of the traditional Vietnamese performing art at Thang Long Theatre, just beside Hoan Kiem Lake. Originating in northern Vietnamese villages from the 11 th century, each performance tells stories of village living, history and folk tales, accompanied by traditional Vietnamese music and dance. After the show, enjoy a true Hanoian dinner of Cha Ca, a 200-year-old northern specialty and favorite of the locals. The savory white fish in boneless chunks is served alongside tasty greens, unlimited rice noodles and saffron-infused oils. End your evening the same way the locals do with a hot cup of coffee or tea in one of the Old Quarter s famously cozy street-side cafes before returning to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast / Dinner Hotel: InterContinental Hanoi West Lake Hotel & Resort (Overwater Pavilion)

Today Hoi An is famous for its restored architecture, homemade silk, expert tailors and delicious noodles and seafood. Its relaxed vibe and pedestrian streets make this town a pleasure to walk around and discover new things. The tour includes stops at several famous landmarks. The first is Chua Ong Pagoda, dating back to 1653 and built in honor of the Chinese general Quan Cong, who is worshipped by many as a symbol of loyalty and justice. Next, visit Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, to see the Jinshang Temple which is dedicated to the goddess of the sea and the protector of sailors. From there it s a short walk to Tam Ky House, a 200-year-old ancestral house and finally, stroll across the often photographed 17th century covered bridge built by Japanese craftsmen. The beautifully built bridge doubles as a temple and is a major landmark of Hoi An. After lunch at a local restaurant, you have free time to walk and explore this fascinating town. Dinner is on your own at one of the many open-air restaurants in Hoi An. Traditional Hoi An Meals: Breakfast / Lunch Hotel: Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa (Junior Suite)

This 3- hour dinner cruise is the perfect way to finish a hectic day in the city and enjoy the unique flavors of Vietnamese cuisine at its best. Meals: Breakfast / Dinner Hotel: Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel (Deluxe)

Day 10: 22 Feb (Mon) HO CHI MINH CITY - CU CHI TUNNEL AND CITY TOUR Begin your morning journey to the Cu Chi Tunnels by departing around 7:30 am from your hotel and travel through the countryside which was once a stronghold of the Viet Cong. Upon arrival, watch a short video about what life was like for soldiers who lived there during the war. The cramped tunnels were central to a few of the war s strategic operations, including the famous 1968 Tet Offensive, and they didn t escape damage. American B52 bombers dropped hundreds of missiles leaving huge tell-tale craters behind. The tunnels served not only as living quarters, but as supply routes and hospitals for thousands of guerilla fighters. While many died there from malaria and other diseases, a few were also born or married. Today they are viewed by some as a testimony to the Vietnamese people s resiliency. Cu Chi Tunnels Return to Ho Chi Minh City around 1 pm for lunch. After lunch, you will have time for shopping at Dong Khoi Street and Ben Thanhmarket. Dong Khoi Street figured prominently in Graham Greene s famous Vietnam novel, The Quiet American. Then onto the Saigon Opera House, a commanding building completed in 1901. Shelled during World War II, it was used to shelter French citizens fleeing North Vietnam in 1954, the year Vietnam earned its independence from France. During your shopping time, you can also see the Central Post Office, Notre Dame Cathedral and other sites. Central Post Office In Ho Chi Minh City The tour continues with a stop at the Reunification Palace, where a North Vietnamese tank crashed through the gates in 1975 to end a war that killed an estimated 58,000 Americans and three million Vietnamese. You will also visit the War Remnants Museum, where the Vietnamese government has assembled presentations, some of them graphic, of wartime hardships and atrocities. Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Hotel: Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel (Deluxe)

Day 11: 23 Feb (Tue) HO CHI MINH CITY MEKONG DELTA FULL DAY PRIVATE TOUR ON LE JARAI This morning depart from your hotel and drive approximately two hours to Ben Tre, a gateway to the Mekong Delta. Here, you will board a small boat to start your sightseeing around the waterways of Mekong Delta. Known also as the rice bowl of Vietnam because of its large rice production, the area has also diversified into activities related to aquaculture, rearing of animals, cash crops and fruit trees. Le Jarai Cruise Visit the brick factory and board a small boat and meander through the waterways. Stop at a small homemade coconut processing plant to see how coconuts have been turned into oil, candy and woven mats that are later sold in the market. After the boat trip you will have a short walk to a local village to see mat weavers at work, before jumping on the deltas version of a tuk tuk and travelling down the country roads to the pier. Here you will board the beautiful teak boat Le Jarai to continue your cruise along the river. While onboard join in the demonstration of Vietnamese cooking before sitting down to a sumptuous three-course lunch of Mekong specialities. After lunch relax on the top deck and take in the scenery back to Ben Tre, where on arrival you will return to Ho Chi Minh city arriving late in the afternoon. Starting at the magnificent Saigon Opera House, the A O Show is a spectacular showcase of Vietnamese culture and performance art, combining beautiful precision elements of both old and new. Featuring Vietnam s most talented performance artists, traditional musicians and circus-like choreography, A O Show explores the lives of the Vietnamese people through its ensemble creations. Using props made of little more than bamboo and wood, performers recreate the peaceful serenity of the Vietnamese countryside, the ebb and flow of the coastal waves or the frenetic traffic in Hanoi and Saigon. With a cast made up of the most talented local circus performers, dancers, athletes and artists, A O Show is one of the most memorable experiences to be had in the city. A O Show In Saigon After the hour-long show, take a short walk through the wide Boulevards of central Saigon to Hoa Tuc Restaurant, a real culinary and architectural gem, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of District 1 for a farewell dinner. Renowned for its combination of contemporary Vietnamese cuisine and authentic French colonial architecture, Hoa Tuc is the perfect end to a memorable night in Saigon. Eat Al Fresco or in the elegantly white washed walls of this one time Opium Refinery. Afterwards transfer back to your hotel. Meals: Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner Hotel: Intercontinental Asiana Saigon Hotel (Deluxe)

Your next stop is the Bayon, known for the hundreds of smiling faces that grace the towers. The bas-reliefs are quite impressive and tell stories of daily life and the great battles that were fought between the Khmers and ancient Thais. Move on to Phimeanakas, shaped a bit like a pyramid with two ponds in the rear. The ponds were once used for religious rituals but today serve as swimming pools for Khmer kids. Walk to the top of the temple for impressive views of the Angkor complex. Angkor Wat In Siem Reap See the rows of trunks that form the wall of the Terrace of the Elephants, a platform from which King Jayavarman surveyed his army. Close by is the Terrace of Leper Kings, which includes a statue depicting Yana, the Hindu god of death. Then it s a short drive to one of the most beloved temples Ta Prohm. This small crumbling temple is held together by giant tree roots giving it a magical feel. Return to Siem Reap for lunch.
