eclass What IS eclass for Students? - My eclass - eclass C & I Tool (Curriculum and Instruction) - BYOD (Bring your own device) *Students can access assignments and academic information anytime, anywhere. *Digital Tools that can expand the walls of the classroom

Our next step is BYOD eclass Bring Your Own Device is a popular and expanding phenomenon in American schools. BYOD refers to technology models where students bring a personally owned device to school for the purpose of learning.

What kind of access will students have? Internet access similar to what they have when they log on to a school computer. We have GCPS devices in classrooms. BYOD is simply a method of putting more devices into students hands

What about security? Network Security Classroom Security Hardware Security

Network Security? GCPS Network When students login through the GCPS network, the same safeguards are in place that are on our school computers Three tier filter system No student should be accessing Internet via a personal data plan.

Classroom Security? Instructional use only Locked Rooms No Share Policy No student sharing of devices View screen but do not touch screen or device

Classroom Management? Variety of options for letting student know if devices should be out and and/or turned on Remind 101

What device is best? FIRST we cannot recommend, or endorse a device for your family, but we can share some information to help inform your decision-making. (handout)

Preparing Your Student Can your student do the following independently? Turn the device on and off Start Apps Plug in headphones / Adjust Volume Access a Wi-Fi network from the device Launch the Web browser Navigate using the Web browser Bookmark websites and go to sites using the bookmarks Capture a screenshot Take a picture / Record a video Access pictures / Access videos

Final Thoughts We are all learning together BYOD is not something that will happen everyday and every classroom (at least not right away) teachers will use it when it serves a purpose. Please be patient as the teachers learn how to best implement devices using BYOD. Every teacher will look different in terms of their use of BYOD.
