Our common future AUTOMOTIVE CAREER MODEL
2 Our common future DYNAMICALLY DEVELOPING INVESTMENT CENTRE The threefold unity of the city industry, knowledge and culture is a good representa on of the city s effort to represent innova ve added value that meets today s expecta ons while building on tradi on and accumulated experience. The stable economic situa on, the available skilled workforce, the widespread economic coopera on built on the R+D+I knowledge base of the University of Miskolc, and the research ins tutes all support the the city leaders objec ves. The se lement of Hungarian and interna onal investors play a key role in this. In 2013 the Hungarian government selected Miskolc and its surrounding to be a flagship development centre and decided to create a 1,000 hectares industrial area within the framework of the Modern Ci es Programme, which also contributes to the realisa on of the plans of the city. Let Miskolc be our common future!
3 INNOVATIVE CITY In Miskolc, secondary and tertiary education and training with a century of knowledge and tradition, adjusted to the market needs are extremely important in the realisation of developments and investments. Lecturers, teachers and students at the University of Miskolc and the colleagues at the research institutes together with the corporations, SMEs and clusters have already realised a number of innovations that have already been rapidly and successfully applied in the industry and in business.
4 Our common future TOURIST DESTINATION Besides being an innovative city, Miskolc offers a number of tourist attractions. The Miskolctapolca Cave Baths the Lillafüred Hanging Gardens, or the renovated Diósgyőr Castle are such attractions that are unique in Europe as well. The diversity of this pulsating city is based on its architecture and beautiful natural environment. These places offer immeasurable opportunities for discovery and freetime activity for those who settle in the city. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY AND MODERN INNOVATIONS Miskolc joined the Green City movement and committed itself to green, environmentally friendly and sustainable developments. Achievements are highlighted by such already realised environmentally friendly and smart developments as the purchase of 31 new tram cars, the traffic signal system giving priority to trams and the largest geothermal renewable energy project in Central Eastern Europe, the biogas and biomass plants, the introduction of selective waste collection, the most modern ultrafilter water cleaning technology, and the open air pools of Miskolctapolca which is the only one in Hungary holding the Green City accreditation.
5 IN THE HEART OF EUROPE Miskolc, a city located in the direct attraction zone of three countries, and thus of a favourable geographic location, is the administrative, economic, scientific, educational, cultural and touristic centre of the North-Hungarian region. Miskolc can be reached from Budapest on the M3 M30 motorway in 1 hour and 30 minutes. By hourly InterCity service, convenient railway transport is also provided, from large cities of Europe or other Hungarian cities. In addition to the services offered by Liszt Ferenc International Airport in Budapest, the international airports of Debrecen and Kosice are at an hour s distance. As a result of Miskolc s favourable location, the city may serve as the gate to the East and the West in the heart of Europe. Planned Source: HIPA
6 Our common future LOOKING AT MISKOLC AS AN INVESTOR Miskolc is the location where the prerequisites of high value-added production are integrated into a sustainable business and natural environment. The local actors are committed to build the future of this liveable city together and the spirit of our founder, Robert Bosch can be inherited to the next generations: I would rather lose money than trust. Dr. Frank-Stephan Kupfer, Commercial Plant Manager, Robert Bosch Energy and Body Systems Ltd. There were three significant aspects that made the management of PATEC decide for the city of Miskolc. One of these significant aspects is that the leadership of Miskolc supports the development of the automotive industry with outstanding work and collaboration. Miskolc also hosts several dynamically developing TIER-1 automotive plants, which means a great market. All this is supported by the University of Miskolc, which provides highly qualified, productive and creative professionals. Dávid Zsolt Nagy, Project and Sales Representative, PATEC Ltd. Besides economic growth, one of the main strategic objectives of Remy Automotive Hungary Ltd. is to increase its presence and visibility in Miskolc. Its other objective is to be a reliable, permanent and strong strategic partner for the city and the region that helps to build and strengthen the community where we live and work. Zoltán Király, Operative Director in Europe, Remy Automotive Hungary Ltd. The Japanese owners of Shinwa opted for Miskolc as their only production site on Europe following a long search in 1998. The automotive giant that has been around for many decades in Asia decided to open a plant in the county seat primarily due to the vicinity of the university and skilled labour as well as industrial traditions. Over the past few years the Japanese-owned company has become a vital industrial actor in the country and the city, and is one of the most important automotive production bases in Hungary. Zoltán Zahorán, Sales and Marketing Manager, Shinwa Precision Hungary Ltd. At the beginning of 2014 we could only see a construction area at Miskolc and 10 months later we already started production at our facility. 60.000 sqm halls have been built at a 25 hectares big ground and everything was running according to our original plans. Within the successful start of the plant, which has been built in a record timeframe, the effective cooperation with the city of Miskolc, Miskolc Holding, as well as the Hungarian authorities and the Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency (HIPA) played a significant role. Therefore we would like to express our thanks again. Currently, 550 people are working at Takata Miskolc, a number which will grow according to our plans within 2 years to 1,000. Kersten Bachmann, Director, EMEA Operations Airbag and Electronics, Takata Corporation. We made a decision over five years ago that we would renew our customer service and move it to Miskolc. We have received over 100,000 feedback from our clients that confirm this choice. The city leadership proved to be an excellent partner and they have been very supportive throughout the whole time. As a result of this cooperation we carried out another investment in the value of 400 million HUF in 2014; and consequently we added 1600 sqm to our premises and we are expected to have 500 employees by December. Our decision to do this extension besides our excellent cooperation with the city was due to the excellent workforce available. This is why we decided to establish the special RED Assistants team here, and the people of Miskolc can be rightfully proud of it. Mr. Péter Major, Head of Customer Service, Vodafone Hungary Ltd.

8 Our common future The threefold nature of the city is reflected in the Miskolc Automotive Career Plan as well: education and knowledge-based industry offers an adequate background both for fresh graduates and already seasoned experts from the region and abroad. The Miskolc Automotive Career Plan was launched in 2014 under the coordination of the Municipality of the City of Miskolc. It provides a new opportunity for (primarily) young experts (studying in secondary schools, vocational schools or at university) to plan their future in and together with Miskolc, in terms of both their future career and home. The municipality enjoys the support of the County Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the association of enterprises, local companies, educational institutions and public administration as well. The milestones in this common work and planning are as follows: 2013 Miskolc municipality and Robert Bosch Energy and Body Systems Ltd. agreed to launch common project developments under the name TOP-10. The Hungarian government appointed Miskolc and its surrounding as a flagship development centre. 2014 Workshop at the Miskolc City Hall with the title Opportunities at the Flagship Development Centres in Hungary. In the framework of the SROP project the municipality signed agreements with leaders of local enterprises, institutions and public administration actors to strengthen cooperation and thinking together. Cooperation agreement between Miskolc City, the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers about the improvement of the local economy through common work. Miskolc and its partners participate for the second time at the Automotive Hungary fair in Budapest.
9 AUTOMOTIVE CAREER MODEL IN MISKOLC The meaning of the English word career is life route in Hungarian. In Miskolc, we understand it as including the planning and the development of one s career together with the subjective dimensions. SUBJECTIVE DIMENSION SUCCESSFUL CAREER PLAN PROFESSIONAL DIMENSION SOCIAL DIMENSION The chart above presents the everyday workers task and relation to their career plan from three important aspects and through the continuous balance between them. For the individual it is important to find the activity and profession in which we feel good and can develop, receive further training throughout a lifetime and can experience self-fulfilment. Our workplace is very important in our lives. We need good work atmosphere (acknowledgement of leaders and co-workers), adequate and available tools (technical infrastructure) as well as financial and moral recognition (remuneration and praise) to successfully accomplish our tasks. Family provides the most important background for us, their support and encouragement is indispensable for successful self-realisation. The adequate balance between the work and private life provides the possibility and quality of the free time spent with the family. These together provide high motivation for people interested in building their career.
10 Our common future INDUSTRY Miskolc, the former industrial city carrying its industrial heritage, used the latest technology and kept the level of education and training opportunities at a European level while it also benefited from the work culture of the investors that use state of the art developments. This is how it turned into a liveable, safe city and an investment centre, built on companies that provide great added value. In recent years several world class production companies appeared in the city s industrial parks, companies that are important suppliers. It is a realistic objective to invite an automotive production company to settle in the adequately prepared, 1,000 hectares large industrial area that is going to be realised in the near future. The widespread social cooperation to develop the city and to retain the qualified workforce, improve the level of education all serve these purposes, while the already realised, presently planned or in progress projects for the period of 2014 2020 all help the implementation of this objective. Miskolc offers Hungarian and foreign professionals and managers who decide to move here secure jobs in a fresh, youthful and forward-looking environment besides the pleasant environment, safety, adequate living conditions, foreign language training from kindergarten to university, sports and other recreational activities. Come and join us in shaping the future of Miskolc!
11 KNOWLEDGE EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING THAT MEET THE MARKET NEEDS VOCATIONAL TRAINING One of the most important requirements for economic development is highly qualified workforce and adequate level of vocational training. The educational institutions of the city, the Ministry overseeing vocational education and training, significant enterprises in the region, the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the city of Miskolc play an important part in this. The key to economic development is the creation of a knowledge based society, in which professional training plays an important part. The resource for economic development in the city is the highly qualified workforce, and both the local and the state interest is to create a high-level and market-oriented vocational training. The content of the training has been renewed, more emphasis is now placed on dual education, i.e. theoretical education combined with practical training.

The Bartók Béla Institute of Music is a significant attraction offered by the University. Thanks to the extensive international cooperation network of the University of Miskolc, it provides study opportunities for its students in the form of study abroad courses at foreign universities as well. Several international corporations have chosen Miskolc as an investment location during the past decade. Besides the openness and investment-friendly attitude of the municipal government, the companies settled down in the city primarily due to the intellectual capacity of the University of Miskolc, locally available trained workforce, the vicinity of eastern markets and the favourable logistics features. Lean Management specialisation playing a role in higher education and realising dual training was also launched at the University. Miskolc has a decisive role in the R&D activities of the county and the region. The University of Miskolc, having launched and contributed to several international projects, is of outstanding importance in that.

Lean thinking subjects are not only related to organisational processes (Lean Manufacturing and Maintenance, Industrial Automation, Servicing Logistics, Lean Logistics, Logistics Management) and methodological skills (problem solving methods and systems, Lean quality engineering), but also to the development of human skills and competences required for their successful execution (organisational behaviour and performance management).
16 Our common future INDUSTRY TRADITION AND INNOVATION CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY: A RELIABLE PARTNER The Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BOKIK) is a main drive for the county s economy. Its primary objective is to contribute to the growth of SMEs exports and to strengthen innovation. Due to its geographical location BOKIK has traditionally had a good relationship with other chambers of commerce in the neighbouring countries. Besides members of the Cooperation of Carpathian Chambers the organisation enjoys good relationship with public bodies and economic development organisations in traditional export partners of the county Austria, Germany and other EU member states as well. BOKIK wants to ensure a dual vocational training that effectively meets the market requirements and that provides companies with highly skilled workforce. NOHAC: AUTOMOTIVE SUPPLIERS TOGETHER By now, Central Eastern Europe has become the centre of the automotive industry, practically every signifi cant European and Far Eastern manufacturer is present in the region. It is in our interest that automotive parts arrive from local or nearby suppliers, meaning that the companies of the region hence the member companies of the North Hungarian Automotive Cluster (NOHAC) as well have good chances to obtain a supplier position or to strengthen their existing ones. NOHAC was established with the participation of three leading suppliers, as well as the BOKIK [Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County Chamber of Commerce and Industry] and the University of Miskolc at the end of 2006. Nowadays, the cluster still operates with active support from the Chamber. The aim of NOHAC is to improve the competitiveness, innovation and profitability of North Hungarian automotive suppliers through their partnership. By this the cluster brings its members closer to the European automotive sector and the European automotive industry to its future partners. Following its establishment, several companies joined the cluster comprising over 70 members today. Most of them are metal and plastic processing enterprises, but design offices and companies offering certification and other services are also represented. The aggregate number of employees of the member companies exceeds 11,600 and their aggregate revenue amounts to approx. HUF 450 billion. NOHAC was awarded the title Accredited Innovation Cluster in December 2014, which is a great recommendation for future funds for the cluster and its member companies, too.
17 CULTURE THIS IS ALSO MISKOLC The diversity of this vibrant big city arises from its beautiful built and natural environment. Miskolc is a special city of Europe, inviting us at all times to adventures, where the wonders of nature promise many experiences, which also provides tranquillity and a home if required. In the past couple of years, the city has undergone a dynamic development both in the field of culture and tourism. By the reconstruction of Diósgyőr Castle, Miskolc has gained a special sight, as the Castle of King Louis the Great was rebuilt in its original splendour, unique even in Central Europe. The Pannonian Sea Museum has 7 million years old bald-cypresses on display in an interactive environment. The local university, steel production, metallurgical history and paper production all have their own museums in Miskolc. At the heart of the city, among the monuments, also modern can be found. The intimate atmosphere is further enhanced by the river of Miskolc, the Szinva creek, with promenade squares having rock gardens and floodlights in its vicinity. Near the heart of the city we may encounter a unique attraction: in the northern side of the Avas hill there are over 900 cellars and wineries located, many of which have been witnessing the vibrant life of the city below them for as many as 300-400 years. This vibrant life is characterised by festivals, such as the Jelly Carnival, the Bartók+ International Opera Festival, the Jameson CineFest International Film Festival or the Beer Festival. Several hundred thousand visitors coming to Miskolc are proof of these festivals and uninterrupted developments. Those seeking relaxation and the wonders of nature do not need to leave Miskolc either: the boundary of the Bükk National Park runs across the city. There is a wildly romantic path leading up to Miskolc-Lillafüred, through the largest small railway viaduct of the country. Another famous hiking location and resort area of Miskolc is Miskolctapolca. The Cave Bath is the major touristic attraction of the city, a natural formation unique even in Europe. The system of caves with crystal clear microclimate is supplied by 28 34 C water from the karst region of the Bükk hills. In addition thereto, the only Green City accredited open-air bath in Europe, recently refurbished, also awaits water sports fans, by also offering wellness services. The most well-known figure of 20th century Hungarian realist prose literature, Zsigmond Móricz referred to Miskolc as the Hungarian city with the greatest potential, and he wrote: If you stop above Miskolc,... and look around over the beautiful landscape, you will see one of the most splendid panoramas... There will be a fairy garden built here very soon.
