Installing and Configuring SQL Express 2008 R2 for Supply Chain Guru This document describes the process by which you can install SQL Server Express 2008 R2 and configure it for use with Supply Chain Guru. Also included is information on editing models in SQL Server Management Studio. Installing SQL Server Express 2008 R2 These instructions guide you through the installation procedure for SQL Server Express 2008 R2. You must have administrative access to the computer. The installation process takes about 15 minutes. Prerequisite software If you are installing SQL Server Express 2008 R2 on a Windows XP machine, you may be required to install Windows Installer 4.5 first. This can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=5a58b56f-60b6-4412-95b9-54d056d6f9f4&displaylang=en. The installer for this software varies by operating system as follows: 32-bit: 64-bit: WindowsXP-KB942288-v3-x86.exe WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x64.exe Windows XP may also require Powershell 1.0 if it is not currently installed on your machine. This can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=7217 You should not need these items installed for a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer that has all current service packs and updates. Download and installation procedure Currently, SQL Server Express 2008 R2 is the fully supported option for SQL Server with Supply Chain Guru. We also recommend that users install the Database with Management Tools (or Database W/Tools) option. A decision between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the SQL Server Express depends on a variety of factors, including whether your operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit AND if your computer s Microsoft Office application is 32-bit or 64-bit. By default, the 32-bit version of SQL Server Express is recommended because it should work for all computer setups. If your computer has a 64-bit version of Microsoft Office, then the 64-bit version is also an option. Download the File The link to the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 RTM - Express with Management Tools is as follows: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=23650 You will have the option to register when you perform the download.

1. Select the Language you want to use, and then click Continue. 2. Select whether or not to register SQL Server 2008 R2 with Microsoft, and then click Continue. 3. Select the Language you want to use, and then click Download. 4. Select the version of SQL Server 2008 R2 you want to download: SQLEXPRWT_x64_ENU.exe The 64-bit version. SQLEXPRWT_x86_ENU.exe The 32-bit version. 5. Click Next and the installation program is downloaded to your computer. Run the Installation Program Once the file has downloaded: 1. Double-click on the.exe file to open the SQL Server Installation Center. 2. Select Installation in the left panel. 3. Click New installation or add features to an existing installation in the right panel to start the installation. 4. To accept the license terms, select I accept the license terms, then click Next. 5. If you are running Windows XP, the Setup Support Files screen is displayed. Click Install to install the setup support files. Once the files are installed, the Setup Support Rules screen is displayed.

a. If you see an error related to Windows Powershell (as seen in the previous image), you likely do not have a working version of Powershell installed. If so, please refer to the Powershell documentation, which can be obtained via the Powershell link provided in Prerequisite software. You may also receive a warning about your firewall, but this is not a problem. If some support files were not installed, warnings or errors are shown with clickable links to resolve the issues. Follow the instructions to resolve errors. After resolving any errors, click on the Re-run button. b. Once you have verified that there are no errors and the setup support files have been installed, click Next. 6. On the Feature Selection screen, verify that the box for Database Engine Services is checked. UNCHECK the box for SQL Server Replication. Also, ensure that Management Tools - Basic and SQL Client Connectivity SDK are checked. Your screen should look similar to the following

7. After reviewing, click Next.

8. On the Instance Configuration screen, verify that Named instance is selected, and that SQLExpress (the default) appears as the named instance. 9. Optionally, verify that your disk space meets the installation requirements by clicking on Disk Space Requirements and reviewing the information. 10. Click Next. 11. On the Server Configuration screen, set the Account Name for the SQL Server Database Engine to NT_AUTHORITY\SYSTEM using the drop-down list in the field. Typically, a password is not required for this account. While it is possible to use a different account, doing so is beyond the scope of these instructions.

12. Click Next. 13. On the Database Engine Configuration screen - Verify that Windows authentication mode is selected on the Account Provisioning tab. Verify that the current user is listed in the Specify SQL Server administrators window; if not, click Add Current User.

14. Click Next to display the Error Reporting screen.

15. Optionally select the checkbox for forwarding SQL Server Error Reports, then click Next. 16. Optionally select the Installation Configuration Rules screen and verify that there were no errors, then click Next.

17. Click Close. 18. Close the SQL Server Installation Center. SQL Server Configuration with Supply Chain Guru Two methods are available for connecting SQL Server and Supply Chain Guru. Each method offers its own advantages. Method 1: Enable the Use User Instance Option and utilize a named instance in SQL Server Management Studio This method accommodates the largest amount of user types and is the most organized way to handle SQL database operations with Supply Chain Guru. 1. Open Supply Chain Guru and select File > Application Settings. 2. Click on the SQL Server tab, make sure a Local Server Instance is selected, and enable the Use User Instance checkbox.

3. Click Apply, then click OK. 4. Close and reopen Supply Chain Guru for the changes to take effect. You should now be able to either create a new SQL model or add an existing model. 5. Click File > Model > Add New Model, and verify that the SQL Server Express option is available: If the SQL Server Express option is not available, it is likely that SQL Server was not installed properly. You may have to uninstall and then reinstall all SQL components to configure them correctly with Supply Chain Guru. Please follow the instructions carefully in Installing SQL Server Express 2008 R2. Method 2: Disable the Use User Instance option and use the root instance to interact with SQL Server Management Studio This method allows Guru to interact with the root instance of the SQL Server application. You may have to manually attach and detach models from SSMS for this configuration to work.

1. Open Supply Chain Guru, and select File > Application Settings. 2. Click on the SQL Server tab, make sure a Local Server Instance is selected, and clear (uncheck) the Use User Instance checkbox. 3. Click Apply, then click OK, and then close Supply Chain Guru for the changes to take effect. 4. Navigate to the Windows Start Navigator, and locate the SQL Server Console located in the Supply Chain Guru 7 file directory:

5. Open the program to display the following dialog -

6. Copy the Pipe Name entry, which will look different on your computer. This is the login string for the actual root instance of SQL Server that was installed. It contains all attached SQL databases opened in Supply Chain Guru. 7. Login to SQL Server Management Studio, using the Pipe Name that was copied in the previous step as the Server name: 8. When you log in, the Object Explorer contains all attached databases that have been opened in Supply Chain Guru.

Note that your list may be smaller than the example. 9. Reopen Supply Chain Guru. You should now be able to create a new SQL model or add an existing model. 10. In Supply Chain Guru, click File > Model > Add New Model, and verify that SQL Server Express is available as a database format:

If the SQL Server Express option is not available, it is likely that SQL Server was installed improperly. You may have to uninstall and then reinstall all SQL components to configure them correctly for Supply Chain Guru. Please follow the directions in Installing SQL Server Express 2008 R2. Editing Models in SQL Server Management Studio In addition to the model editing capabilities in Supply Chain Guru, you can use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) to make large-scale changes to a model. The model database can only be edited by one program at a time either Supply Chain Guru or SSMS. To edit a model in SMSS: 1. Open SSMS.

2. Login to the User Instance or Root Instance. 3. Locate the Object Explorer, then right-click on Databases, and select Attach

4. Click Add on the Attach Databases window to display a dialog for llocatinge and select the database file Supply Chain Guru model (.mdf) on your computer. 5. Click OK, then optionally choose an Attach as alias for the database, and click OK again.

6. Once the database is attached, all of the Supply Chain Guru database tables are available for viewing/editing.
