If we consider the service ives of products that are designed to ast a certain time, we can see that they a have identica or simiar faiure characteristics. If we pot the service ives of the individua bubs on specia ogarithmic graph paper, the graph produced is caed a Weibu distribution curve. In a stabe production process we obtain a straight ine for the service ife via which we can read off various ife vaues. For its products in the automotive sector, OSRAM specifies a B3 vaue, which indicates the time at which 3 % of the tested bubs have faied. OSRAM aso specifies the Tc vaue (characteristic Weibu vaue), which indicates the time at which 63. % of the bubs have faied. Formery, ony the average vaue was specified (the average ife), which in this system woud correspond to a B vaue (i.e. the time at which % of the bubs have faied). By specifying both the B3 vaue and the Tc vaue it is possibe to get an idea of the spread of the product s service ife and hence the quaity of the product.
