3 Carbon Footprint report A T E A Introduction Environmenta focus is an integrated part of Atea s business strategy towards customers and within their own organization. The aim of this report is to get an overview of Atea s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and to faciitate the identification of concrete measures in order to reduce their energy consumption and own GHG emissions. Data from a the companies has been coected and invove the commitment from empoyees from various group eves. The carbon footprint report for 2011 incudes a of Atea s operations in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finand and the Batics. Method The carbon footprint gives a genera overview of the company's greenhouse gas emissions, converted into CO 2 equivaents and it is based on reported data from interna and externa systems. The anaysis faciitates the identification of possibe measures to reduce the energy consumption and thus aso the overa carbon footprint. The purposes of the carbon indicators are to measure the carbon intensity per empoyee and per vaue creation, in addition to showing environmenta transparency towards externa stakehoders. The anaysis is based on the internationa methodoogy Greenhouse Gas Protoco Initiative (GHG protoco). The GHGprotoco is the most important standard for measuring greenhouse gas emissions, deveoped by Word Resources Institute (WRI) and Word Business Counci for Sustainabe Deveopment (WBCSD). The report considers the foowing greenhouse gases, a converted into CO 2 equivaents: CO 2, CH 4 (methane), N 2 O (aughing gas), SF 6, HFCs and PFCs. Scope 1: Direct emissions (mandatory reporting) This eve concerns a emissions from sources owned or controed by the company. For Atea Group, scope 1 incudes: A direct emissions from the Atea Group s owned or controed sources, such as company vehices, and heat generation (fue oi and natura gas for heating). Scope 2: Indirect emissions (mandatory reporting) This eve concerns a emissions from purchased energy. In the case of Atea Group, this means purchased eectricity and district heating. The eectricity CO 2 emission factor is cacuated from the Nordic eectricity production mix, which is the emission factor used for Norway, Sweden and Finand. The emission factor for Denmark is given by Energinet. For the Batics, statistics from the Internationa Energy Agency has been used. Renewabe energy is incuded in the CO 2 emission factor for eectricity; for that reason the purchase of green energy does not change the eectricity emission factor. The emission factor used to cacuate district heating was provided by the district heating operator, and statistics from the Internationa Energy Agency. Page 2
4 Scope 3: Indirect emissions (vountary reporting) Scope 3 incudes other indirect emissions from company activities originating from sources not controed by the company such as, emissions from subsuppiers, services and waste management. Whie scope 1 and 2 are mandatory according to the GHG Protoco, cacuating scope 3 emissions in the Carbon Footprint Anaysis is optiona. The Atea Group report incudes air trave and waste management. Air trave is reported in number of fights to a predefined region; some companies have a better overview and are abe to report on the actua distance trave. The air trave is then converted to trave kiometers. The historica data has been review and readjust from trave hours to trave kiometers, the purpose is to give a more accurate resut for ATEA Group independent on how air trave is reported. The 9 % upift factor is added to the distances to take into account the nondirect routes and deays/circing. The amount of recyced waste generates zero emission in this context. Recyced gass has a cimate impact, which is much ower than if it had not been recyced. Page 3

13 Concusions This report is part of Ateas cimate strategy to reduce its GHG emissions. The main contributors to Atea Group greenhouse gas emissions are eectricity/district heating and fossi fues; this is aso the case for the operations in each country. Fossi fue is the main contributor of emissions in Sweden, Norway and Finand, whie eectricity/district heating is the main contributor to the carbon footprint of Norway, Denmark, Atea Logistics and the Batics. In some of the premises in Denmark natura gas has been repaced with district heating. District heating not ony provide higher efficiency but it aso owers their carbon footprint. Atea Group have since 2007 increased their tota CO 2 emissions by 12 %. This is the resut of acquisitions and expansion since The nature of the new acquisitions has a huge impact in the carbon footprint. In Norway as a resut of an acquisition the transport activities increased and the emissions from transport and fossi fue amost doube. Atea evauates its cimate efforts by comparing the carbon emissions per empoyee and have a reduction target of 25% CO 2 emissions per empoyee by 2015 compared with 2007 figures. Atea is more than hafway in their target period and have so far managed to reduce their emissions per empoyee with 10% since This reduction is argey due to impemented action pans that are integrated in the environmenta management system ISO The resuts show that the progress to reach the reduction target varies within the organization.
