Using this dialog box, you can build connections to existing data sources, specify StarOffice Calc, Microsoft Excel, and other supported spreadsheet documents as data sources, design and edit database tables, define new queries or edit existing ones, and create links to remote data sources, including forms and text documents. When specifying a data source, the program automatically enters the corresponding protocol scheme in the Data Source URL text box (for example, sdbc:dbase:), facilitating the task of establishing a connection to a desired data source. The connected data sources appear in the list box on the left of the Data Source Administration dialog box. The new Data Source Administration dialog box makes it a snap to manage your data sources. In addition, StarOffice 6.0 comes with a newly designed dialog box for assigning number formats to support the international formats for date, time, and currencies. With more functions than a standard spreadsheet program, StarOffice Calc enables you to create lists and handle Euro conversions with ease and accuracy. StarOffice Draw is a bonus application, since office suites don t typically include one. Within a drawing, there can be many different types of graphics: standard polygons; meta-files and bitmaps; lines, curves, and contours; text; and two types of 3D objects. With very few exceptions, you can convert one to the other just by right-clicking and choosing what to convert to. If you want to use an effect on a polygon that only works on raster (pixel graphics like scanned photos), just convert it to a metafile or bitmap (two types of rasters). Need the object as a polygon again? Just convert it right back. In the world of StarOffice Draw, objects can be just about anything you want them to be. Use or customize existing arrowheads, or create your own shape; the arrowhead can be your company s logo or the classic triangle, it s up to you. Bezier curve tools give you an exceptional amount of control, both before and after you ve drawn the line or curved shape. Add points afterward and adjust the curve, sharpness, or location to get exactly the effect you want. StarOffice Draw has the tools and precision to enable you to create engineering-class drawings. Two types of line tools are included that you don t get with just any drawing program: connectors and dimension lines. Connectors are similar to what you might have seen in Visio; a smart connector at the end of each line lets you easily attach it to objects in the drawing, and the line can curve and bend around each object involved.
