Master Your choice As a student of the Master program in General Management you have the freedom of choice: you may choose between a general orientation with specialization competences, and take a look at all fields, or you concentrate on a few selected areas and become a specialist with general competences. Depending on your individual targets, you may freely combine introductory, subject-related and methodological, or practice-related, value-oriented and character-building elements. It is up to you to determine your focus and extent of generalization, speed and intensity of studies, topics to be explored, study periods abroad, entrepreneurial activities and/or social business projects.
Research-based and character-building Regardless of the organizational structure you choose, the know-how and connections of the Faculty of Management and Economics, its institutes and staff will always be at your disposal. The Faculty cooperates with regional firms, medium-sized family businesses and international corporations. As a Master student you have access to the Company Mentorship Concept at the Faculty of Management and Economics and are therefore in a position to establish valuable contacts at an early stage. Regardless of how you plan to organize your studies in accordance with your personal interests and preferences, you will benefit from our excellent research, strong practical orientation and a reliable network of interesting cooperation partners in the business community.
Target group The Master degree program in Management (M.A.) targets graduates of Bachelor programs in economics who wish to acquire a solid foundation of knowledge in the core subjects of business economics and general management and appreciate a wide range of options for specialization. Applicants are expected to show motivation and readiness to learn, commitment both within and outside the university, responsibility and entrepreneurial spirit. Do you plan to start a business of your own after graduation? Do you wish to start your career in the management of a consultancy firm, a bank or a corporation? Are you interested in healthcare management or the social sector? Or do you pursue other individual goals? The Master program in Management will be the ideal preparation for your career as an educated economist (Alfred Herrhausen). Provided you meet all requirements you may of course start doctoral studies at the Faculty of Management and Economics.
Structure, contents Credits, certificates The Master program in Management (M.A.) covers a standard study period of either four or two semesters (120/60 ECTS credits). Students are mentored in the assessment of findings and the practical relevance of economics and management theory. They acquire competences to act as responsible entrepreneurs in preparation for the challenges and frequent changes in the business world. The program consists of a number of optional courses, and students are free to choose for the most part. They may combine seminars in Business Economics and General Management in either German or English, courses in fundamental studies or individual projects, depending on the chosen focus and personal preferences. Our core subjects are Corporate Governance, Management of Family Businesses, Business Philosophy, Healthcare Economics, International Economics, and Economic Policy; all these are at the intersection of economics, culture, politics and healthcare. In exploring these subjects our students learn to address the challenges they will face in future.

Admission requirements The first requirement is the general higher education entrance certificate, or pertinent subject-related higher education entrance certificate, or an equivalent qualification acquired abroad. The second is a Bachelor degree in economics. Applicants must also provide proof of proficiency in the English language. In addition to these formal requirements we invite applicants for individual selection interviews, since we want to know all about your personality, degree of commitment, preferences and interests.
