Programme Overview Page 2 Topics Biodiversity in different ecosystems and natural as well as anthropogenic changes evident in space and time are the focus of interest of many scientists at the Goethe University of Frankfurt. Numerous organisms, their interactions and ecological functions are still unknown, but modern methods including molecular techniques and modeling give fascinating new insights into biodiversity structures and processes over large scales in space and time. We are looking forward to teaching and sharing our knowledge on different subjects including among others: How fungi can help to save the world! Integrative research on diversity, systematics and applied aspects of fungi Biodiversity in time and space: paleoceanography and paleoclimatology Biodiversity in freshwater ecosystems for assessment of anthropogenic impacts Man and the biosphere in the past and the present

Programme Overview Page 3 Programme 22 July: The influence of man on landscape and biosphere in the last 15.000 years (Prof. Dr. Bruno Streit) 24 July: Global change in freshwater ecosystems in the 20th and 21st century (PD Dr. Martin Plath) 25 July: Population genetics of invasive species (Prof. Dr. Bruno Streit and PD Dr. Martin Plath) 28 July: Introduction to applied mycology (Prof. Dr. Meike Piepenbring and Dr. Ondrej Koukol) 29 July: Tropical mycology (Prof. Dr. Meike Piepenbring and Dr. Ondrej Koukol) 31 July: Diversity and ecology of freshwater and marine Oomycetes (Prof. Dr. Marco Thines) 1 August: Diversity and pathology of plant pathogenic Oomycetes (Prof. Dr. Marco Thines) 4 August: Effects of emerging contaminants, nanomaterials, micro plastics and other wastewaterborne pollutants on aquatic organisms (Prof. Dr. Jörg Oehlmann, Dr. Martin Wagner, Dipl.-Biol. Dennis Becker)

Programme Overview Page 4 Programme 5 August: Field excursion: Impact of a sewage treatment plant on biodiversity in a small stream (Prof. Dr. Jörg Oehlmann, Dipl.-Biol. Dennis Becker) 7 August: Plant diversity in Frankfurt (plant collections at Botanic Garden and Palmengarten) (Prof. Dr. Georg Zizka) 8 August: Plant diversity in Frankfurt (urban habitats) (Dr. Indra Starke-Ottich and Prof. Dr. Georg Zizka) 11 August: Introduction into marine biodiversity, paleoceanography and paleoclimatology 12 August: Application and practical 14 August: Application and practical 15 August: Talks and discussion of results
