Warehousing close to harbour/dock Necessary expansion possibilities. A shift from deliveries from European countries to Eastern/South European and Far-East countries. A shift from engine shipments from European countries to Far East/South American/Eastern European countries.
Key Note: What will or what needs to change (cont.)? Increase in consolidated shipments through Bergen Harbour (shift from current, mainly truck transport to ship transport). Ro-Ro concept X-docking facilities The provision or the willingness to provide capital for new logistics assets. Use of intelligent IT solutions to combine information-flow with goods-flow. Further integration between goods-owner and logistics service provider. Increase in use of returnable packaging, laundering and repair.
Other Observations: What works and what doesn t work ERP systems and the continuous strive to achieve integrated database systems. (N.B. theory vs practice) Advanced Logistics: ABC analysis, Make-vs-Buy analysis, Sourcing strategies etc. - hard, difficult but.. extremely worthwhile. Manage the external supply chain. Sort; eliminate unnecessities. Set in order; How do we want it? Shine; The area should shine. Standardise; Systematise. Sustain; Sustain; Secure the 4 S s.
