Funcional Descripion The PI4ULS5V202 is a 2-bi configurable dual supply bidirecional auo sensing ranslaor ha does no require a direcional conrol pin. The A and B pors are designed o rack wo differen power supply rails, and V CCB respecively. Boh he and V CCB supply rails are configurable from 1.2 V o 5.5 V. This allows volage logic signals on he side o be ranslaed ino lower, higher or equal value volage logic signals on he V CCB side, and vice-versa. The ranslaor has inegraed 10 kω pull up resisors on he I/O lines. The inegraed pull-up resisors are used o pull up he I/O lines o eiher or V CCB. Applicaion Informaion Level Translaor Archiecure The PI4ULS5V202 auo sense ranslaor provides bidirecional volage level shifing o ransfer daa in muliple supply volage sysems. This device has wo supply volages, and V CCB, which se he logic levels on he inpu and oupu sides of he ranslaor. When used o ransfer daa from A por o B por, inpu signals referenced o he supply are ranslaed o oupu signals wih a logic level mached o V CCB. In a similar manner, ranslaion shifs inpu signals wih a logic level compaible o V CCB o an oupu signal mached o. The PI4ULS5V202 consiss of wo bidirecional channels ha independenly deermine he direcion of he daa flow wihou requiring a direcional pin. The one sho circuis are used o deec he rising or falling inpu signals. In addiion, he one shos decrease he rise and fall ime of he oupu signal for high-o-low and low-o-high ransiions. Each inpu/oupu channel has an inernal 10 kω pull. The magniude of he pull-up resisors can be reduced by connecing exernal resisors in parallel o he inernal 10 kω resisors. Inpu Driver Requiremens The rise ( R ) and fall ( F ) iming parameers of he open drain oupus depend on he magniude of he pull up resisors. In -addiion, he propagaion imes ( PD ), skew ( PSKEW ) and maximum daa rae depend on he impedance of he device ha is conneced o he ranslaor. The iming parameers lised in he daa shee assume ha he oupu impedance of he drivers conneced o he ranslaor is less han 50 kω. Enable Inpu (EN) The PI4ULS5V202 has an Enable pin (EN) ha provides ri sae operaion a he I/O pins. Driving he Enable pin o a low logic level minimizes he power consumpion of he device and drives he I/O V CCB and I/O pins o a high impedance sae. Normal ranslaion operaion occurs when he EN pin is equal o a logic high signal. The EN pin is referenced o he supply and has overvolage oleran proecion. Power Supply Guidelines During normal operaion, supply volage can be greaer han, less han or equal o V CCB. The sequencing of he power supplies will no damage he device during he power up operaion. For opimal performance, 0.01 μf o 0.1μF decoupling capaciors should be used on he and V CCB power supply pins. Ceramic capaciors are a good design choice o filer and bypass any noise signals on he volage lines o he ground plane of he PCB. The noise immuniy will be maximized by placing he capaciors as close as possible o he supply and ground pins, along wih minimizing he PCB connecion races. 8
