Installation Overview Who Should Use This Guide This guide applies to users who are upgrading an existing COMPRESS installation to COMPRESS Build 6310. If you are installing COMPRESS on a new COMPRESS (a first COMPRESS installation on a new computer) using a USB security key shipped after June 22, 2009 please see the COMPRESS New Installation Guide available from our Support Center (http://www.codeware.com/support). A Note on Passwords You will continue to receive a password file (.cw2c) along with application instructions when renewing your Support and Update Service (SUS) subscription or making additional license purchases. Applying this password file to your USB security key extends your SUS and/or activates your purchase. Although a password file (.cw2c) is not needed to complete this installation, you will not be able to run this version of COMPRESS until you have applied all received password files (.cw2c). Page 2
Upgrade From Build 6300 Before You Begin Ensure your computer meets the system requirements outlined on Page 1. To install COMPRESS you must have Local Administrator privileges on your computer. This can be verified by selecting Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. If you do not, please contact your IT department. Installation Source COMPRESS installation CD COMPRESS online download available from: http://www.codeware.com/downloads/updates.html Built-in online update feature (Help > Get Updates from within COMPRESS) Step-by-Step Instructions 1. Launch the installation of COMPRESS on your computer from one of the installation sources. Do NOT connect your USB security key to your computer. 2. If the User Account Control popup appears, select Yes to continue. 3. Click Yes to confirm the upgrade. Page 3
4. The first screen will depend on your installation source: COMPRESS installation CD or download from Codeware: Select Maintain or upgrade an existing instance and click Next to continue. Built-in online update feature: You can choose to patch one installation or all existing installations of COMPRESS. Select which instance(s) to patch and click Next to continue. Page 4
5. Wait for the installation to load. 6. After reading the instructions on the welcome screen click Next to continue. Page 5
7. Please read the License Agreement. Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next. If you do not wish to accept our license agreement, click Cancel and return the software to Codeware. 8. Select Install to begin the installation. Page 6
9. Wait for the InstallShield Wizard to install COMPRESS. 10. Confirm the COMPRESS USB security key is connected to an available USB port on your computer. Click Finish to complete the installation process. You have completed the installation process. Page 7
Upgrade From Build 6263 or Earlier Before You Begin Ensure your computer meets the system requirements outlined on Page 1. To install COMPRESS you must have Local Administrator privileges on your computer. This can be verified by selecting Start > Control Panel > User Accounts. If you do not, please contact your IT department. It is strongly recommended that you exit all other running programs before installing COMPRESS. Make sure the COMPRESS USB security key (hardlock/dongle) is NOT attached to the computer. Installation Source COMPRESS installation CD COMPRESS online download available from: http://www.codeware.com/downloads/updates.html Built-in online update feature (Help > Get Updates from within COMPRESS) Step-by-Step Instructions 1. Launch the installation of COMPRESS on your computer from one of the installation sources. Do NOT connect your USB security key to your computer. 2. If the User Account Control popup appears, select Yes to continue. Page 8
3. If your operating system is a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008, you may need to install additional HASP drivers. You will not be able to run COMPRESS without these drivers. Click the Install HASP driver button to download the drivers. Select Run when prompted with the download choices to manually complete the installation of the drivers. You may select Continue without installing the driver, but you will need to perform this installation prior to running COMPRESS. The driver installation package is also available on the COMPRESS installation CD and from our online Support Center: http://www.codeware.com/support. Page 9
4. After reading the instructions on the welcome screen click Next to continue. 5. Please read the License Agreement. Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next. If you do not wish to accept our license agreement, click Cancel and return the software to Codeware. Page 10
6. When prompted enter your Name and Company Name. 7. Choose the Destination Location for this COMPRESS installation. It is recommended that you accept the default folder of C:\Codeware\COMPRESS_XXXX (COMPRESS Build number). Page 11
8. The User.mdb file stores your user defined materials. You can choose to have COMPRESS create a new, default file or import your existing file. Your selection will not change the settings in the prior COMPRESS installation. This screen will only show if there is a prior COMPRESS installation on your computer. Option 1: Select No if you want to proceed without updating the User.mdb file. The new COMPRESS installation will use the default COMPRESS database. Continue to the next Step. Option 2: Select Yes to make your existing User.mdb file compatible with this version of COMPRESS. Select your User.mdb file and click Open. Page 12
9. In the Setup Type window make the selection according to your license type: Single (green or purple USB security key) Lease (black USB security key) Page 13
10. Click Install to begin the installation. 11. If the Codeware Key Update Utility is installed the following screen will not appear, proceed to Step 12. Codeware Key Update Utility Installation If the Codeware Key Update Utility is not already installed (you are using COMPRESS Build 6261 or earlier), click Ok to accept the notification and proceed with installing the Codeware Key Update Utility. Select Next to begin installing the Codeware Key Update Utility. Accept the license agreement and click Next. Page 15
Select Install to begin the installation. If you want to review or change your installation settings, select Back. Click Finish to exit the InstallShield Wizard. Page 16
12. Wait for the InstallShield Wizard to install COMPRESS. 13. If your COMPRESS USB security key is not connected, connect it to an available USB port on your computer. Click Finish to complete the installation process. You have completed the installation process. Page 17
Repairing COMPRESS At times it may be necessary to repair the COMPRESS installation. The COMPRESS Repair option will replace the installation files and restore the COMPRESS installation. To repair COMPRESS: 1. Select Start > Programs > Codeware > COMPRESS XXXX > Remove, Repair COMPRESS. 2. Click Next to continue to the Repair operation. Page 18
3. The COMPRESS maintenance screen will appear. Select Repair and then click Next. 4. Click Install to continue with the Repair operation. 5. The Repair operation will automatically reinstall all program features installed by the previous setup. A repair finished screen will appear when the operation is complete. Page 19
Uninstalling COMPRESS COMPRESS design files should not be saved and maintained in the COMPRESS folder. These files may be deleted when COMPRESS is uninstalled. To uninstall COMPRESS: 1. Select Start > Programs > Codeware > COMPRESS XXXX > Remove, Repair COMPRESS. 2. Click Next to continue to the Remove operation. Page 20
3. The COMPRESS maintenance screen will appear. Select Remove and then click Next. 4. Click Remove to continue with uninstalling COMPRESS, Back to return the the maintenance screen or Cancel to exit the uninstall program. 5. A confirmation screen will appear when COMPRESS is successfully uninstalled. Page 21
