When we first considered the construction of a unique residential project, we searched the city for the best possible location. We gave a careful thought to what would make the difference between truly inspiring living conditions and the faceless product that otherwise dominates today s market. When we finally came across the Gizella Malom (Gizella Mill) property, we were enchanted, not only by the superb location, but also by the character radiated through the time-worn 19th century industrial landmark with its 50 m high Eastern tower, that can be seen throughout the city. Upon entering the building, we wondered at the vastness it offered and imagined how its Grand Spaces might soon be filled with happy people living Grand Times. And so, we made our choice. From the conceptual stage at the outset of the project, it became clear that any reconstruction we choose to do would have to respect the building s heritage: we would create a modern loft space with plenty of natural lighting, while carefully preserving the industrial feel and character of the premises as a whole. At this point, Gizella Mill became Mill Lofts. Mill lofts offers more than 100 loft apartments from 60 to 350 m 2 and has the solution for anyone seeking a unique accommodation with individuality and character. Mill lofts will be completed in the 3rd quarter of 2007.
introduction
Gizella Mill in the 19th century During the mid-19th century, trade in agricultural goods in the Empire was intense, with local entrepreneurs investing considerable capital into the construction of new mills. The first such mill began its operations in 1841, to be followed by many others such as Elisabeth, Louisa, and Gizella Mills in the 1850s and 60s. These mills produced meals and flours of outstanding quality at capacities ranked first in Europe and second after Minneapolis in the United States in the world. Gizella Mill, which was improved and enlarged continuously over the years, was a key component in this production performance. Gizella Mill was founded by Baron Lajos Krausz, who named it after his wife. In its peak years during the first half of the 20th century, the mill employed 400 people and produced 140 million kg of flour. building The golden years of mill production lasted through the end of the World War I., when Hungary lost its major coal mines which had supplied the mills with fuel. The Gizella Mill was converted to operation by electrical power, which enabled it to survive the crisis. Fortunately, as the bombing of World War II. left the Gizella Mill untouched, it was the first to resume its operations in the post-war period. In the wake of the post-war nationalization process, the Gizella Mill functioned as a state-owned company until 1963, when its industrial rail lines were decided to hinder the development of Soroksári Road and it was subsequently closed. By today, only the main building has remained, the rest of the complex was demolished over the course of the past few decades.
The upper floors of Mill Lofts offer splendid views over both the river and the city. Step outside and you ll instantly feel the pulse of the city. Located on Soroksári Road next to the Danube River, Mill Lofts is just minutes away from the city centre in easy reach of public transportation facilities, motorways, and the airport. Directly opposite Mill Lofts, running alongside the river to the nearest bridge, lies the Millennium City Centre, Budapest s leading urban development area. This riverfront property gives home to the Art Centre, the National Theatre, and high-end residential buildings, with projects such as the Vodaphone Headquarters, other exclusive office buildings, restaurants, and shops on the near horizon. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Petôfi Bridge University of Technology Vodafone Infopark National Theatre Palace of Art 2 7 Tram 8 Bus 9 Subway 7 10 Suburban Train
