Shop with a Buccaneer 2014 Mentor Application * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * It s hard to believe, but the Holidays are already upon us - a time for family and relaxation, but most of all, generosity. Every year, hundreds of families in our community are unable to afford gifts for their children due to their financial situation, but here at Allatoona, we are trying to change that. Shop with a Buccaneer was started to ensure that the underprivileged children in our feeder program have the best holiday season possible. Through this program, students at Allatoona raise money so that they can take these children shopping for holiday gifts. It is just one small way that we can give back to the Buccaneer Community. This year, we are planning to take over 70 underprivileged little Buccaneers shopping at Target on December 13, 2014. In order to make Shop with a Buccaneer possible, we need two things. First of all, we need donations. Our goal this year is $10,000, which is a very tall order. The money raised for Shop with a Buccaneer comes directly from our students. As a potential mentor, we expect you to help us in this endeavor. You have already taken the first step to becoming a Shop with a Buccaneer Mentor by obtaining this application. We hold our mentors to the highest standards and will review the applications rigorously. The goal for Shop with a Buccaneer is to make a positive difference in the lives of the children we will be assisting. This will be a demanding, but rewarding, experience for not only the child you assist, but for yourself. The event needs your absolute commitment so please check your personal calendar for any conflicts in your schedule on December 13 h (this may be an SAT/ACT or sporting event day) prior to applying to this event. You must arrive by 7:45 am SHARP on Saturday, December 13 th. Mentors will be assigned a shopper on a firstcome, first-serve basis so punctuality is essential. On December 13, you will be completely responsible for your little Buc shopper. You are expected to be extremely enthusiastic and positive, spending 110% of your time and energy on your shopper. You will also be required to help clean up after the event, and will be allowed to leave after all is completed, probably around 2:30 pm. *Please note that each student applying must raise $50 in order to participate. Shopping pairs will be created the morning of the event in order to have at least $100 to spend. Your raised donation of $50 must be placed in the red lock box at the HELM desk by Wednesday, December 3 rd, in the envelopes provided at the box. This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity, but one that is not to be taken lightly. We are looking for the best here at AHS. Thank you for your willingness to participate in this awesome program. We look forward to seeing you on December 13! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Reminders Application & $20 application fee Due Friday, November 14, 2014 $50 donation per applicant - Due Wednesday, December 3, 2014 Turn in ALL applications to the SWAB box at the HELM desk and all money into the red drop box at the HELM desk using the envelopes provided. *All donations and fees to SWAB are non-refundable

Please remove this sheet and keep for future reference. Steps for becoming a Shop With A Buc Mentor *A space has been provided next to each step so you can keep track of your completion of all steps in the process Step 1: Turn in the application and application fee no later than Friday, November 14, 2014. Applications are to be turned in to the SWAB box at the HELM desk in the lunchroom. A $20 non-refundable application fee, required for all mentors, is to be turned in at the same time as Part I of the application. Please use the envelopes provided at the HELM desk for your application fee. Applications will not be accepted without the $20 non-refundable application fee placed in the red drop box using the envelope accordingly. The money covers the cost of your shirt, as well as helps pay for breakfast, lunch, and transportation costs for the event. All shirts will be distributed at the mentor training sessions. Be sure your application has the correct shirt size indicated. Sign the last page of the application; by signing you are agreeing to dedicate yourself completely to Shop with a Buccaneer. This includes attending the training sessions, raising $50 by December 3 rd, sending family and friends your request for a donation letter, and giving 110% on December 13 th. Step 2: Obtain 4 teacher recommendations. Fill in your name and the teacher s name at the top of each teacher recommendation form attached, cut along the dotted lines, and distribute the recommendations to the respective teachers. You need to allow at least a week for the teachers to complete the recommendation so do this portion immediately. Teacher recommendations are due from your teachers Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Teachers should turn in recommendations to the SWAB box in the mailroom. The recommendations are required for all participants. Writing the names of all teachers you distributed the forms to here will allow you to be able to track down any teacher that did not complete the form. Recommendations given to: Step 3: Mail at least 2 donation letters. Pick up at least 2 donation letters at the HELM desk when you turn in your application. Please mail these letters to at least two people you think would be able to donate money to our Shop with a Buccaneer program. The money received from these donations does NOT go towards your personal required $50 donation. They are above and beyond the money that we are asking you to raise personally, so be sure to mail these letters to people that you are not asking to help you with your $50. Remember you will be seeing lots of family over the Thanksgiving holiday, so be sure to make copies of the letter and take it with you to your events. The more you raise, the more we are able to provide for our lil Bucs. In years past, we have been able to spend more than $100 per child due to the amount of donations received from these letters. Step 4: Attend a SWAB training session. This year we are holding all training sessions Monday through Thursday the week of SWAB in the theater at 7:45am. Please make plans to attend the very first one so you aren t stressed on Thursday morning trying to get to the last one available. Sessions will begin promptly at 7:45am and you will be asked to attend another session if you come in too late. A quick training quiz will be given in order to confirm your attendance at a training session. YOU MUST ATTEND A TRAINING SESSION TO PARTICIPATE EVEN IF YOU VE PARTICIPATED IN SWAB BEFORE!!! Step 5: Turn in your $50 SWAB required donation by December 3 rd. Envelopes for your $50 fundraiser can be found at the HELM desk. Please complete all necessary identifying information on the front of the envelope, place your fundraising money inside, and place the envelope in the red lock box at the HELM desk. Step 6: Stay after on Friday, December 12 th, to help decorate. We like for this event to be exciting for our lil bucs. In order to do this, we transform the lunchroom into a winter wonderland. The more students that stay after to help decorate, the faster we can accomplish the task and the more we are able to do. If you cannot stay after to help decorate, you MUST indicate on your application OR notify Mrs. Shoemaker by Wednesday, December 10 th. Any other absences from decorations after school on Friday will register as a non-commitment on your part and you will be one of the last to receive their lil buc assignments on Saturday, if we have enough to go around. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Please remove this sheet and keep for future reference.

Please write a paragraph answering the following 2 questions: 1. Have you previously participated in Shop with a Buccaneer at AHS? If so, why do you want to participate in the Shop with a Buccaneer program again? If not, what made you want to participate in the Shop with a Buccaneer program this year? 2. What personal characteristics of yours do you feel could be helpful in influencing a young mind to become a better person through your interaction with them? I hereby understand and agree to take on the responsibilities that being a Shop with a Buccaneer Mentor entails. I promise to attend one of the four morning Mentor Training Sessions at 7:45am in the theater and aid in fundraising efforts. I will arrive before 7:45 am on December 13, 2014 and remain at AHS until Shop with a Buccaneer is over (around 2:30 pm). I understand that I am expected to exemplify only the highest character, and anything I do to jeopardize this reputation will also jeopardize my status as a Shop with a Buccaneer Mentor. I agree to pay the $20 application fee to reserve my spot as a mentor and understand that this fee along with my $50 donation is non-refundable. Mentor Signature Date Teacher Recommendations (next two pages) In order to ensure we are providing a positive experience for our young shoppers, we are asking each mentor to obtain 4 teacher recommendations.
