1. Introduction BeoLink Media Installation Guide BeoLink Media is a product that enables the user to distribute digital media to different sources in a MasterLink system. Daily operation is performed by Beo4, while the transfer of media files to BeoLink Media takes place via an extended client software (ether BeoPlayer or BeoLink PC2) program from a connected PC. The connection between BeoLink Media and the editing PC takes the form of a standard Ethernet network with an Internet connection (ADSL or equivalent). Installation and configuration of BeoLink Media must be performed by a trained installation / service partner, for whom this installation guide is intended. For detailed information about using BeoLink Media and BeoPlayer, please refer to the relevant user guides. 2. The BeoLink Media solution Before describing the actual installation procedure, this guide starts by describing the main components in a typical BeoLink Media system. To achieve full functionality in a MasterLink system, BeoLink Media must be connected to a main room TV as shown in the diagram below. HomeCenter Media The central component in the BeoLink Media solution is the HomeCenter Media unit, which has a hard disk that acts as a storage medium for media files and at the same time establishes the connection to the Internet to receive Net Radio stations and updates. HomeCenter Media is supplied with all of the cables and adaptors needed to transfer video and sound signals to the TV and MasterLink system. The standard length is 3 metres, as BeoLink Media, like an STB, is often placed next to the main room s TV. However longer cables (10 metres) can be ordered from Bang & Olufsen. Page 2

BeoLink PC 2 A standard BeoLink PC 2 box is used as the interface between HomeCenter Media and the MasterLink system. The link eye connected to BeoLink PC 2 must be ordered separately, and used if the TV in question has an application software installed which do not support a full integrated BeoLink Media setup. An existing BeoLink PC 2 box can be used, as the necessary updating of firmware takes place while BeoLink Media is being installed. Audio Master To be able to distribute N.MUSIC and N.RADIO from BeoLink Media to audio and video link rooms, a Master of the same type is required as from BeoLink PC 2, i.e.: BeoSound 3000 / 3200 / 9000 / BeoCenter 2 / BeoCenter 1, etc. Video Master BeoLink Media can be connected to all BeoVision products that have a SCART or DVI-I input and thus support CRT, plasma and LCD technology. As more and more software is released for the various TV platforms that supports a fully-integrated BeoLink Media solution, the need for a separate link eye connected to BeoLink PC 2 will gradually disappear, and more elegant operation will be possible. Editing PC BeoLink Media is supplied with a CD-ROM containing a version of the BeoPlayer software that has, among other features, support for N.RADIO and PHOTO. If the editing PC already has a previous version of BeoPlayer or BeoLink PC 2, this should be uninstalled before installing the new version. Network and Access Point Ethernet cables, routers, hubs/switches and other network components are not part of the BeoLink Media package, and these must be bought and installed separately if they are not already present in the installation. The connection from HomeCenter Media to the network can be created either with cables or a wireless solution, as there is the facility to fit a wireless PCMCIA network card in the unit. When a new network is established Bang & Olufsen recommend the use of shielded CAT 6 cables. To start with, BeoLink Media requires a Ethernet network connection from which it is possible to browse pages on the Internet, e.g. www.bang-olufsen.com. When delivered, the HomeCenter Media unit is configured to use a dynamically assigned IP address that matches the typical network settings, in which case you will experience a complete plug & play solution. 3. Installation overview The following section describes the step-by-step installation of BeoLink Media. Follow the guidelines and use the figures and instructions that relate to the BeoVision TV used in the setup in question. The guidelines are divided into two main areas: They start with a description of how HomeCenter Media is connected to the TV and Link system, and is started as a stand-alone system without a network connection. This is followed by the network section, with the setup of IP address and, if necessary, a wireless network, as well as the installation of BeoPlayer software on the editing PC. When setting up HomeCenter Media a standard PC keyboard and mouse must be used, possibly in the form of a combined unit that can be connected directly to the USB port. To configure the network you need information from the Internet Service Provider that describes the Internet connection in question. BeoLink Media introduces a number of new technologies and connection to various external devices. But once a successful installation has been completed the HomeCenter Media unit can be considered to be a black box that, like other Bang & Olufsen sources, offers fully integrated operation via the Beo4 remote control and does not in general require any special maintenance. Any updates to the system software are loaded via the Internet connection, which is fully automated and causes no inconvenience to the daily user. Page 4

4. Connecting HomeCenter Media to a TV There are two options, depending on whether the TV in question has a SCART or a DVI input. If the TV has a DVI input this should be used, as this produces the best picture quality. Note that the term DVI covers two different kinds of input. DVI-D: only supports digital signals, the kind of input that is found in the current version of BV 6-22. DVI-I: supports both analogue and digital signals, the kind of input that is found in BV 7-32. In its current version, HomeCenter Media offers the following video outputs: Analogue VGA monitor output that can be connected to a TV with a DVI-I input via a converter. Analogue Y/C signal that can be connected to the TV s AV input via a SCART adaptor. Note not all SCART input on a BeoVision TV support Y/C signals. Use the alternative CVBS output from the HomeCenter Media Analogue CVBS signal that can be connected to the TV s AV input via a SCART adaptor. Follow the instructions on the following pages to see how to connect HomeCenter Media to a TV with a SCART input and a DVI-I input respectively. BeoVision TV with SCART - Y/C input This solution is used for, among others, the MX family, BV1, BC1, Avant, BV3, BV5 and BV 6-22 where the used SCART input support a Y/C signal. Make all of the connections shown in the diagram, but do not connect the power supply to BeoLink PC 2 and HomeCenter Media until the TV has been configured. Note: Remember to connect keybord and mouse to HomeCenter Media. Video: Connect the Y/C splitter to the S-Video output (Yellow) on HomeCenter Media. Connect one end of the phono cable to the Y/C splitter (red to red and white to black) and the other end to the SCART adapter (Red to Y and white to C). Audio: Connect the mini jack cable to the mini jack splitter and to audio in on the BeoLink PC 2 box. Connect the mini jack/phono cable to the mini jack splitter and to the L-R sockets on the SCART adapter (red to R and white to L). Connect the SCART adapter to the A/V socket on the television. Data: Use the USB cable supplied together with BeoLink PC 2 to create a data connection between HomeCenter Media and BeoLink PC 2. Network: Do not connect the network cable or fit any wireless PCMCIA network card until HomeCenter Media has been configured and tested in stand-alone mode. Go to page 9. Page 6

BeoVision TV with SCART - CVBS input This solution is used for, among others, the MX family, BV1, BC1, Avant, BV3, BV5 and BV 6-22 where the used SCART input do not support a Y/C signal. Make all of the connections shown in the diagram and do not connect the power supply to BeoLink PC 2 and HomeCenter Media until the TV has been configured. Note: Remember to connect keybord and mouse to HomeCenter Media. Video: Connect the CVBS-Video output on HomeCenter to the Y input on the SCART adaptor as shown in the diagram. Use the cable with two mini jacks in each end but connect only the red mini jack in both ends. Audio: Connect the mini jack cable to the mini jack splitter and to audio in on the BeoLink PC 2 box. Connect the mini jack/phono cable to the mini jack splitter and to the L-R sockets on the SCART adapter (red to R and white to L). Connect the SCART adapter to the A/V socket on the television. Data: Use the USB cable supplied from BeoLink PC 2 to create a data connection between HomeCenter Media and BeoLink PC 2. Network: Do not connect the network cable or fit any wireless PCMCIA network card until HomeCenter Media has been configured and tested in stand-alone mode. Go to page 9. Page 7

BeoVision TV with DVI-I input This solution relates to, the BeoVision 7-32. Make all of the connections shown in the diagram and do not connect the power supply to BeoLink PC 2 and HomeCenter Media until the TV has been configured. Note: Remember to connect keybord and mouse to HomeCenter Media. Video: Use the VGA to DVI converter supplied to connect the monitor output on HomeCenter Media to the DVI input on the TV. Audio: Connect the mini jack cable to the mini jack splitter and to audio in on the BeoLink PC 2 box.connect the mini jack/phono cable to the mini jack splitter and to the L-R sockets on the TV (red to R and white to L). Data: Use the USB cable supplied from BeoLink PC 2 to create a data connection between HomeCenter Media and BeoLink PC 2. Network: Do not connect the network cable or fit any wireless PCMCIA network card until HomeCenter Media has been configured in stand-alone mode. Page 8

5. Setting up the TV Now the input on the TV to which HomeCenter Media is connected must be configured. Switch on the TV and press <MENU> on Beo4 to activate the Setup menu. Select <SETUP> or <OPTIONS> and <CONNECTIONS> to define the AV input to which HomeCenter Media is connected. If the TV is equipped with application software that supports full BeoLink Media functionality, you have the possibility to select PC. Otherwise select V.AUX. If the TV SCART can be accessed by choosing V.TAPE2 this can be used as an alternative to V.AUX. This solution is only to be made if the V.AUX command is already being used. Throughout this document V.AUX will be used in the different descriptions this can be substituted by V.TAPE2 if needed. Note: As from 6 December 2004 only BeoVision 7-32 and TVs with the S2 chassis that have software version 15.10 or higher provide full support for BeoLink Media. Use the service menu <0> <0> <GO> and MONITOR INFO to see the current software version. 6. Setting up Beo4 In order operate HomeCenter Media with Beo4 a number of commands must be added to the list. Add the PC command to the list if you have chosen PC in the connections menu. If you have chosen V.AUX in the connections menu add V.AUX to the list. For direct access to playback of N.RADIO and N.MUSIC, these should also be added to the list in Beo4. This can only be done if an audio master is connected to the MasterLink. For further information about this operation, please refer to the Beo4 user guide. Page 9

7. Setting up BeoLink Media To set up BeoLink Media for the first time you must use a standard PC keyboard and mouse that are connected directly to the HomeCenter Media unit. The following setup needs to be done by using the keyboard. Then do the following startup procedure: Select BeoLink Media as a source using PC or V.AUX Connect power to the BeoLink PC 2 box Connect power to and switch on the HomeCenter Media unit The startup procedure can be followed on the TV screen. There is no need to do anything during the process, simply wait until BeoLink Media s main menu appears, where you can choose between the various sources shown on screen. Select BeoLink Media as a source using PC or V.AUX Go to the Configuration menu Page 10

To access the Configuration menu, press <R> on the Keyboard followed by <9> on the following menu Configuration menu To enable the last Menu-field Advanced press <0> <0> <ENTER> on the Keyboard. Use < > to move the marker to the field Advanced and press <ENTER> to select the advanced setup menu. Page 11

Advanced Setup Menu: Verify the following settings: Show desktop: Command: VM option: Indicate that it should be possible to select the PC s desktop on BeoLink Media s main menu in order to access the control panel and setup network etc. When the setup of BeoLink Media is completed this field should be set to X because the access should be blocked for the daily user. Select the command to be used to activate BeoLink Media from Beo4 if an external IR eye is used. If this and the VM option fields are dimmed a TV software which supports BeoLink Media is detected by the PC 2 box and the fields has no effect. The PC command is automatically used and the commands are send from the TV to BeoLink Media through the ML connection. Enter the option (1 or 2) of the Video Master which BeoLink Media is connected to. Note the field is only active if an external IR eye is used. From this point Beo4 can be used instead of the keyboard for most instructions. Leave the Advanced setup menu by pressing <ESC> on the keyboard or <EXIT> on Beo4. Now select the field Maintenance on the Configuration menu. Page 12

Maintenance menu: Software version: Firmware version: States the current version of BeoLink Media application software installed on the HomeCenter Media unit. Once the connection to the network is established it is possible manually to check and download an updated version if it is available from Bang & Olufsen. States which firmware version in the BeoLink PC 2 box connected to HomeCenter Media. If this field is blank. Select the field and press <ENTER> to transfer new firmware. The PC 2 box must contain a firmware version higher or equal to 0x122 in order to work properly with BeoLink Media. Page 13

Exit to the main menu. Use Beo4 to move the cursor to the menu item DESKTOP and press <GO> to confirm the selection. A standard Windows XP user interface now appears. Page 14

Language and keyboard settings In order to be able to use the keyboard layout for your country and setup BeoLink Media with your language settings continue with the following settings. Click on the Start button in the lower left hand corner and select Control Panel. Then select Regional and Language Options Start by setting up your Regional settings if this is wanted. Page 15

After doing this you can set up your local keyboard settings. Click the Language tap and select Details. Apply these settings and go to next section. Change BeoLink Media password This step is very important in order to make BeoLink Media as secure as possible. First thing is to enter the Control Panel and select User Accounts. Page 16

After this you need to select BLM_SHAREUSER in order to change the password. Then choose Change the password. After this you need to enter the customers wanted password. Write down the new password for later use on the client PC. Double-click on the clock in the lower right-hand corner of the screen with the mouse and, if incorrect, set the date, time and local time zone on the menu that appears. Page 17

Setting up BeoLink Media if DVI-I input is used How to change screen resolution (screen area) on BeoLink Media. 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel 2. Open Display in Control Panel ( Display Properties dialog appears) 3. On the Settings tab select the Advanced button 4. Select setting tab Monitor 5. Make sure that the check mark by Hide modes that this monitor cannot display is removed 6. Apply this setting and go back to the previous window Page 19

7. On the Settings tab, under Screen area, drag the slider, and then click Apply Native screen resolutions: TV BeoVision 6 26 BeoVision 7 1280x768 1366x768 Resolution Now BeoLink Media is configured to work in stand-alone mode without being connected to a network. Page 20

8. Setting up a network on HomeCenter Media If a wired connctin is used connect the network cable from router to HomeCenter Media and switch to desktop mode on the TV to control the network settings. Test the network connection by starting Internet Explorer on the desktop with the mouse, and then test that there is an Internet connection by entering a website address, for example www.bang-olufsen.com. If it is possible to view the website the settings are right. Next step is to go to page 24 (Check for updates). If the website does not appear please continue with the following. The BeoLink Media is per default set up to obtain network settings, such as IP address and gateway, automatically from a DHCP server. Different network setup, such as network via wireless or networks using a static IP address, may require additional settings to be set on BeoLink Media. Below is a guide to where the different settings may be applied. Wireless network In this situation HomeCenter Media is setup with a PCMCIA wireless network card. By default the firewall on the wireless network card is not activated Remember to activate the firewall by pressing the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen then choose Run and write as shown in the picture below. Network Settings In the Control Panel select Network Connections, this will bring up the overview of different network connections. Right-click the appropriate network connection Local Area Connection used if BeoLink Media is connected to a wired network Wireless Network Connection used if BeoLink Media is connected via Wireless network and select Properties as shown below. Now you must select a network setup that matches the installation in question. If dynamic assignment of IP addresses (DHCP) is being used, which is the typical setting, all you have to do is select Obtain an IP address automatically and you will not have to manually enter addresses for IP and DNS. In instances where HomeCenter Media has to use a special IP address, etc. that is defined for the network in question, this information must be entered. To set TCP/IP settings, select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and click "Properties" Page 22

Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) from the list and click the Properties button. If it is required to setup WINS and/or further DNS settings, click the Advanced button. Page 23

When using wireless connection On the tab Wireless Networks, adjust necessary settings such as adding preferred networks and change properties (SSID and WEP key) on each network. In this setup menu the customer s home network needs to be selected. Finish network setup Test the network connection by starting Internet Explorer on the desktop, and then test that there is an internet connection by entering a website address, for example www.bang-olufsen.com. Verify that the requested page occurs and exit Desktop Please note the N. RADIO source is still not working at this point since the necessary user registration has to be performed first. Check for updates The next step is to make sure that BeoLink Media has the newest software available. This is done as described in the following steps. 1. Go to BeoLink Media main menu and press the red button on Beo4 2. Select <9> for entering the configuration menu 3. Select Maintenance and then go to Software version 4. Press <Go> - If a new software version is available. Otherwise the system is already installed with the latest BeoLink Media software Note: After following all the above written chapters the Desktop menu needs to be deactivated. To do so follow the steps according activating/deactivating on page 11-12. Page 24

9. Setting up the editing PC The next step is to install the client software (which can be ether a BeoPlayer or BeoLink PC 2 software) on the editing PC so that it is possible to transfer and maintain media files in HomeCenter Media. Note: If a PC 2 software is already installt on the editing PC and the wish is to install this setup with BeoPlayer software then the PC 2 software needs to be uninstalled first. It is important that the editing PC is connected to the same network as BeoLink Media, and that BeoLink Media is correctly configured and connected to the network, before the client software is installed on the PC. If an earlier version of BeoPlayer or BeoLink PC 2 is installed, this should first be uninstalled. Please note only one HomeCenter Media may be connected to the network at the time. This means In your home network you can only connect one editing PC to one HomeCenter Media! Start the installation of client software from the CD-ROM supplied and follow the onscreen instructions. On the registration page click on Own a BeoLink Media and the PC automatically searches the network and tries to establish a connection to HomeCenter Media. This ensures that there is access from BeoPlayer to the location on the HomeCenter Media hard disk where the media files are stored. Note: Always remember to register otherwise N.RADIO and other important features will not work. Page 25

After some search you might be prompted for entering an IP address (see instructions below on how to find the right IP address). When BeoLink Media is found by the editor PC a prompt appears, requesting the logon password. Earlier the BeoLink Media default password was changed to a user specific password. This password shall now be entered and then select Ok. Please note that the password is case sensitive. If the system prompts for the IP address for BeoLink Media it can be found on the BeoLink Media configuration page under Network, as shown below. In this example BeoLink Media has been assigned the IP address 193.089.223.007 and this is the value which should be entered in the dialog box. Note: In most cases the client software installation routine can detect and connect to BeoLink Media without the need to manually find and enter the IP address Note: If BeoPlayer has been installed previously on the editing PC, you may not be prompted for password. Fill in User Name and E-mail to make a full registration to get access to CDDB and N.RADIO. If you have previously registered a BeoPlayer or BeoLink PC 2, these details can be used. Click submit to register your data. This should only be done when the connection to BeoLink Media has been successfully established. Once the connection to BeoLink Media is established the registration can be submitted and the installation of the client software is completed when the following dialog box appears. Test the setup by selecting N.Radio in the BeoLink Media menu via Beo4. Note that updating can take a minute. When you can listen to N.Radio your setup is complete. Page 27

10. Maintaining system software BeoLink Media is updated automatically via the Internet, as HomeCenter Media contacts the server at Bang & Olufsen on a daily basis to check whether a newer version of the installed program elements is available. If this is the case, the update is downloaded in the background and stored on the hard disk without disturbing the user. The following program elements in the BeoLink Media setup are updated: On HomeCenter Media Operating system (Embedded XP) Antivirus program Bang & Olufsen BeoLink Media software The new HomeCenter Media program update is automatically installed at a predefined time, on the condition that Beolink Media is not in use if it is in use, the system waits until the user has finished with, for example, PHOTO or N.RADIO and is no longer using the HomeCenter Media. On the BeoLink PC 2 box Firmware Any new version of the firmware is transferred automatically via the USB data connection between HomeCenter Media and BeoLink PC 2. Editing PC New BeoPlayer / BeoLink PC 2 software A new version of BeoPlayer is saved on HomeCenter Media, and the user on the editing PC receives a message informing him/her that an update is available for installation when the PC / BeoPlayer program is started. A new version can be installed without removing a previous version first. Note the registration process should always be completed. Page 28
