Meeli Koiva was selected as one of the winners in both the 2013 and 2014 Nordic Light international competitions under the aegis of Light in the City. Her rst light and glass exhibition was held in Tallinn in 1991. This was an innovative presentation of new work and a break through in light art history. Before the Light art boom of 20 years she was a trailblazer and source of in uence in light art. For the last 20 years, she has worked at her studios in Helsinki, New York, Paris and San Francisco. During this time, she has explored the possibilities of combining glass and light to create extraordinary pieces of artwork. She has created her highly innovative artwork in Europe and in the USA for private residences and public buildings. She has designed more than 40 architectural sculptures and glass/video paintings throughout the world. Mery Crystal Ra research has collaborated with top scientists in Germany and Silicon Valley, US to produce groundbreaking pieces of light experience. Experiments with lasers, bres and specially fabricated light-conductive materials demonstrate her endless enthusiasm and passion about light and how this can be synthesized into creations of beauty and wonder. She is currently collaborating with the leading engineers, architects, and glass and light fabricators for the production of her light art.
