Exchange studies in Nursing Full programme information 180 Higher Education Credits, 3 years. The nurse has a major part to play in providing care at all stages of life, from infancy to old age. It is important that nurses can make patients feel secure and that they are in safe hands; it is equally important for nurses to cater for their care needs. Today s nurses must be able to use their knowledge of the nursing, medical, social and behavioural sciences in the humanistic and ethical provision of healthcare. The work of the nurse varies widely, from leading and planning the work of a unit to the teaching of future healthcare personnel. The study programme in Nursing comprises both theoretical and practical, on-site education. Half of the programme is held in hospitals, healthcare centres and nursing homes. After graduation Nurses work in hospitals, healthcare centres, municipal nursing homes, private clinics and companies. Options in English For exchange students without very good command of the Swedish language, the Nursing Programme offers options in English as presented below. Curricular courses and project works All courses are full-time courses and require at least 40 hours of work per week. A student can only attend one course at a time. One study week is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits The performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale and on the basis of the student s fulfillment of the learning outcomes stated in the course syllabus. Specific requirements may apply. Offered both autumn and spring semester 1EE008 Literature Review, 3 ECTS credits (2 weeks) Offered spring semester 1EE021 Community and Home Based Rehabilitation - Cultural Perspectives, 7,5 ECTS credits (5 weeks, 6 May - 9 June 2013) Clinical Rotations The Nursing Programme arranges a wide range of full-time clinical rotations in English in different nursing specialties. The rotations may be combined according to the needs of the individual student. A student can, however, only attend one rotation at a time. The starting date of the rotations is fairly flexible and may be adjusted to fit the study plan of the student. A rotation requires at least 40 hours of work per week, normally 32 hours of clinical work and eight hours of independent studies. In some rotations, students have to present a log book or a written report. By the end of the rotation the performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale with the exception of clinical rotations with duration shorter than 3 weeks which will be graded fail or pass. Please note that there is only a limited number of places for clinical rotations and a study place can therefore not be guaranteed. During the clinical rotation the student will be assigned to a clinical supervisor who will be responsible for ongoing instruction and supervision. Appointed lecturer will be responsible for the clinical area in question and participates together with the clinical supervisor in the initial discussion of the student's educational objectives and in evaluations. Please note that the number of places in Child and Adolescent Healthcare are very limited, so please state other options as well. Options in Swedish Exchange students with a good command of Swedish or another Scandinavian language are welcome to apply for curricular courses in the nursing programme.
