Tips for Making Great Shakes The recipes calls for 1 scoop of PDM, but a 'Serving' on the label is 2 scoops. What's up? Keep in mind that PDM (Protein Drink Mix) can be used as a Protein Drink (by itself) or as a substitute for milk or soy milk in your Healthy Meal Shakes. When making a Protein Drink, you are getting protein only from the PDM, so you will likely want 2 scoops (15g protein). When using PDM as a substitue for milk or soy milk in a Healthy Meal shake, you are getting protein from the PDM (7.5g) AND from the Healthy Meal Shake mix (9g), for a total of 16.5 grams, so 1 scoop of PDM is usually sufficient. How much ice should I use? When trying a recipe for the first time, we suggest you start with 8 ounces (1 Cup) of ice. You can always add more ice if the shake is not think enough for your liking. Different fruits or berries will affect the consistency in different ways. Peaches tend to make a shake thicker, while blueberries will make it thinner. Also, soy milk may make the shakes thicker than when the shakes are made with milk or with the Herbalife Protein Drink Mix. Just experiment! (Play with your food!) Does it make a difference what order I put the ingredients into the blender? Yes! For best results, you should add the ingredients to your blender in the order they are listed in the recipes. Adding the water (or milk) first helps ensure the powders will be properly blended. Many recipes specify fruit or berries. Should I use fresh, frozen or canned? We recommend fresh or frozen. Canned fruits and berries typically have added sugars or sugar substitutes. We recommend you avoid these, as they add unnecessary calories and/or toxins. What is "Apple Fiber"? The "Apple Fiber" referred to in the recipes is an Herbalife product called Active Fiber Complex. This product is available either unflavored, or apple flavored. We use it to impart an apple flavor to some of our shakes (with the added bonus of giving you an additional 5 grams of soluble and insoluble fiber)! What is "H3O"? H3O (H-Three-Oh) is a powder available from Herbalife that when added to water, replenishes your electrolytes. Think "better than water". It is available in two flavors "Orangeade" and "Lemonade". We use this to provide the orange and lemon flavors to some of our shakes. What is "PB2"? Peanut butter makes a wonderful shake when combined with chocolate, but peanut butter also contains oils. To reduce the oil content (and the calories) we use powdered peanuts instead of peanut butter. (Think "peanuts with the oil pressed out".) The product we use is called "PB2", and can be purchased online from Bell Plantation at www.bellplantation.com.) What is "PDM"? At 'Cheers', we make our shakes using Herbalife's Healthy Meal Shake Mix, Herbalife's Protein Drink Mix (PDM) and water. You can also make them with milk or soy milk instead of the PDM. If you wish to make your shakes with milk or soy milk, substitute the milk or soy milk for the water in our recipes, and ignore the references to the Vanilla and Chocolate PDM. Why does 'Cheers' use the Protein Drink Mix (PDM) instead of milk? Many people are Lactose Intolerant, others may be intolerant of milk proteins, and still others may be allergic to milk. In these situations, Herbalife's Protein Drink Mix (PDM) or soy milk may be a better choice. We also prefer the PDM because of its higher protein content. What type of pudding mixes does 'Cheers' use? We use "Jello" brand instant pudding mixes. We prefer the regular pudding mixes to the sugar-free versions. What type of syrups does 'Cheers' use? At 'Cheers' we have only a very few shakes that use syrups. For those that do, our product of choice are made by Torani. These syrups are typically used in coffee drinks such as Lattes. We prefer this brand because it contains natural cane sugar instead of artificial sweeteners. Page 9 of 9
