On the ground the MTV Staying Alive Foundation runs a global grants programme providing funding and training to youth-led organisations working to protect their communities from the spread and stigmatisation of HIV/AIDS. On air MTV Staying Alive is the world s largest global HIV-prevention media campaign aimed at young people, with our programming reaching over 500 million households across the globe, in 100% of the top 50 most affected countries. AN MTV STAYING ALIVE FOUNDATION GRANTEE THE DOVE FOUNDATION There are 2.1 million (UNAIDS 2013) Indians living with HIV today. In the northern Indian states, injecting drug users and migrants from rural areas are most at risk. Young rickshaw pullers leave their families and migrate to cities in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh to ferry tourists around the Taj Mahal, Agra and the sacred Cremation Ground in Varanasi. Many young rickshaw pullers inject drugs and visit local brothels, exposing themselves to HIV. The Dove Foundation uses peer education and street theatre to teach young rickshaw pullers about how they can protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. It provides young rickshaw pullers with condoms and makes sure they get tested. Since 2011, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation has helped the Dove Foundation to directly reach more than 10,000 young rickshaw pullers, train almost 800 peer educators, distribute 22,500 condoms, and distribute over 45,000 information, education, and communication materials.

Please seek advice if you are unsure.
