About the icon display under Windows XP In the case of the Blu-ray drive which supports a DVD-RAM disc, or a DVD-RAM drive, on Windows XP, it is recognized as a DVD-RAM drive. When a DVD-RAM disc supported drive is connected A DVD-RAM disc is recognized by the shell of Windows XP, however a BD-R/RE disc is not recognized. Therefore, an icon does not change at the time of BD-R/RE disc insertion. When a BD-R/RE disc is inserted When a DVD-RAM disc is inserted Windows is registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation (U.S.) in the U.S. and other countries. Once you have logically formatted a BD-R/RE/DVD-RAM disc, it can be used to write files just as you would do with a floppy disk or hard disk. The writing and deletion of a file are made to a formatted BD-R disc, however even if it deletes a file, the free space of a disc does not increase. If the writing and deletion of a file are repeated, the free space of a disc will decrease. Since the file once written in the BD-R disc cannot actually be deleted from on a disc, it is for the recording mode which deletes a file in pseudo by not being visible and carrying out a file. The formatted BD-R disc cannot be reformatted. Only a blank BD-R disc is possible in a format. Format types Format types are UDF () type or FAT format type. Use the format appropriated to your needs.
