Asia Pacific 13,736 feed mills; 2014 feed tonnage: 350.54 million metric tons 2013 feed tonnage: 348.32 million metric tons 0.6% increase (which makes this the region with the least amount of growth in 2014) China was down this year by 4% Australia was down this year by 18% Countries that were significantly UP India, Nepal, Indonesia, Vietnam, New Zealand Poultry is the leading species in AP Pig is #2 AP produces 27.049 million metric tons of Aqua feed, which makes it the regional leader for Aqua, followed by Latin America
Africa Highlights 1150 feed mills 2014 feed tonnage: 34.57 million metric tons 2013 feed tonnage: 31.79 million metric tons 8.7% increase (This increase makes it the fastest growing region 3 rd consecutive year.) Kenya was down this year by 12% Countries that were significantly UP Sudan, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique Poultry is Africa s leading species (21.116 million metric tons) Ruminant is its #2 species (11.010 million metric tons) Africa produces only 0.758 million metric tons of Aqua feed
Europe Highlights 5,165 feed mills 2014 feed tonnage: 232.58 million metric tons 2013 feed tonnage: 227.88 million metric tons 2.1% increase Countries that were DOWN Italy, UK, Ireland, Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Albania Countries that were significantly UP Turkey, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Bosnia, Uzbekistan, Latvia, Macedonia, Kosovo Poultry is the leading species in Europe (84.58 million metric tons); Pig is #2 (69.722 million metric tons) Europe produces 3.190 million metric tons of Aqua feed
Latin America Highlights 3,914 feed mills 2014 feed tonnage: 144.84 million metric tons 2013 feed tonnage: 139.22 million metric tons 4.0% increase (This increase makes it the 2 nd fastest growing region this year.) Equine Highlights 2014 feed tonnage: 11.26 million metric tons 2013 feed tonnage: 12.4 million metric tons 9.17% decrease Equine feed production makes up 1% of the total livestock feed production globally North America is the leading horse feed producer; Latin America is #2 Equine feed production was UP in Africa; same in Latin America; DOWN in Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East
Points of Interest All species were UP in AFRICA, despite the fact that this region had the HIGHEST prices on raw ingredients for feed. Africa was the only region to see an increase in production for all species. Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and North America all saw an increase in the number of feed mills. North America had the biggest jump, adding 1,054 mills in the year. The Middle East saw a decrease in the number of feed mills.
