YASA s Background Established in 1994 after the death of Tarek Assi ( 19 years old) in a tragic car crash. Works on Safety Promotion and Injury Prevention in the Middle East region. Aiming at reducing deaths and disabilities due to unintentional injuries. Built, over the past years, a great reputation in safety promotion and injury prevention especially traffic safety.

YASA s s mission YASA aims for safety promotion and injury prevention through education, research, lobbying and advocacy. YASA also provides social assistance to injury victims.

YASA Lebanon Achievements Due to the continuous lobbying and advocacy efforts of YASA Lebanon, we were able to: Reduce the acceptable blood alcohol level Introduce speed radars Enforcement of seatbelt use Mandatory Mechanical Inspection Mandatory Car Insurance Reduce customs taxation on child car restrains Force the building of some Pedestrian Bridges Draft a new Traffic Legislation for Lebanon after being requested by head of Parliamentary Committee for Public Works and Transport; this draft is currently in the Parliament under study

YASA International Achievements YASA has participated in many international safety events around the globe. WHO Safety Conference; 2004 was in Vienna, YASA had 4 abstracts accepted. 2006 was in South Africa, 8 abstracts were accepted with one oral presentation. 2008 was in Mexico, we had 2 abstracts as posters.
