Nom LEÇON 7 Une boum Projet 1 Voici... Unité 3 Leçon 7 Working with a partner, create individual picture collages. The collages provide a way for you to introduce yourselves, say where you are from, and show some of the things you like to do. Use magazine clippings, photos from home, or your own drawing ability for your collage. Before you make the collage, exchange the materials you have collected with those of your partner who will design and put together the collage about you. In order to create captions in French for your collage pieces, your partner will need to ask you questions in French. You and your partner should work together to edit one another s French. Once the collages are finished, your partner will use your collage to introduce you to the class by talking about the pieces that make up your collage. Materials: a poster board, colored pens, scissors, glue, paper clips, removable tape, magazine pictures, photos Preparation: Individually make a list of things you like to do, want to do, can do. Refer to the glossary at the back of the book if necessary. Select pictures from magazines or home photos to represent these activities and who you are. Exchange materials with your partner. Plan how you want to visually represent your partner, who s/he is, where s/he is from, what s/he likes to do. Ask questions in French about information you do not know. Mount the clippings, photos, and drawings using paper clips or removable tape to help plan your final layout. Begin writing your captions in French and have your partner check them for content and French accuracy. Make corrections. Decide on a final layout for your collage and then add the French captions. Introduce your partner to the class using his/her collage. Pacing suggestion: after completion of Leçon 7, Section A p. 49

Unité 3 Leçon 7 Nom Projet 2 Un paradis tropical p. 50 Work with a partner and create a TV commercial for a tropical resort. You will want to find ways to lure your audience into taking a trip to your resort area. You can do this through encouragement, by talking about the resort and its activities, and by using pictures. When you have prepared your presentation, show it to the class. Materials: a poster board, colored pens, scissors, glue or tape, travel magazines, library and/or Internet access Preparation: Decide on a name and location for your resort, preferably in a French-speaking country. Some possibilities include the French Riviera, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Tahiti, Île de la Réunion, etc. Prepare an encouraging teaser for your audience telling them that they should not be working but should be on a vacation in a tropical paradise because they work hard and don t vacation often. Write out this part of your presentation and work together to edit it. Research the climate of the area and the weather at this time of year. Make your resort instantly appealing by comparing the harsh weather here to the lush paradise weather of your resort. Write out this part of your presentation and work together to edit it. Use the Internet to find a similar resort area and learn what activites are popular there. Find pictures in magazines and on the Internet of the area you are going to promote. Prepare the part of your presentation that will talk about the various activities at the resort. Don t forget such actions as speaking French, fine dining, and other relaxing activities. Tell people why they want to visit your resort. Prepare posters and other material to hold during your presentation. Decide who will give which parts of the presentation. Learn your material so that you can deliver it well. Practice the speaking parts. Organize costumes and other items you will need for your presentation. Present your TV commercial before the class. Pacing suggestion: after completion of Leçon 7, Section B or Leçon 7, Section C

Nom Learning Scenarios Scénario 1 Vrai ou faux? Work in groups of three or four. Individually, write three statements in French about things you like to do, want to do, can do. Two of these statements must be true, la vérité, the third should be a lie, un mensonge. When you have all prepared your statements, read them to the group and see if the other members can guess which is false. Scénario 2 Un sondage Prepare an original question to ask others in the class about things they do. (Ex. Est-ce que tu regardes des DVD?) Check with your teacher to be certain that your question is one of a kind. Then ask your question of the other members of the class. Have each person respond using one of these expressions: toujours, souvent, rarement or jamais (never). When you have completed your survey, chart the results on a pie graph, draw a conclusion, and present your results to the class. toujours souvent rarement jamais Unité 3 Leçon 7 Scénario 1 Targeted Standards 1.1 Interpersonal Communication 1.2 Interpretive Communication 3.2 Acquiring Information 5.2 Lifelong Learning Teacher s Reflections Scénario 2 Targeted Standards 1.1 Interpersonal Communication 1.3 Presentational Communication 2.1 Practices of Culture 5.2 Lifelong Learning Teacher s Reflections p. 51

When you finish writing your questions, mark a prediction of whether your partner will answer yes or no to each question. Then ask the question and see how well you predicted your partner s answers. Scénario 4 Un voyage à Paris Work with a partner. Individually, prepare a series of questions about a trip to Paris. (Ex. Tu regardes la tour Eiffel?) Then ask your partner these questions. Nom Change-of-Pace Activities Activité 1 Un jeu de cartes Work in groups of three or four. Label ten index cards with prompts about various activities in French, (Ex. écouter le professeur) and on eight cards write these names and pronouns: Suzanne, Paul et Claire, je, nous, tu, les copains, Jacques, vous. Shuffle the two piles and place them face down. Each player in turn draws one of each card, then recites the sentence produced by that card. (Ex. Suzanne écoute le professeur.) For each correctly stated sentence, earn a point. Replace the cards at the bottom of the pile and continue with the next player. Activité 2 Nous jouons à... Work with a partner. Discuss in French your various activities. (Ex. Je joue aux jeux vidéo avec mon frère. Est-ce que tu joues aux jeux vidéos avec ton frère?) As you speak, create a Venn diagram of the activities you have in common and those you do individually. Activité 3 Signez, s il vous plaît This is a class activity. The teacher will give each one a list of activities. Circulate in the classroom and ask other students if they do these things. (Ex. Est-ce que tu parles français?) When someone answers yes to your question, ask them to sign your sheet. Remember to answer questions completely. Unité 3 Leçon 7 Signez, s il vous plaît. Unité 3 Leçon 7 Nom Activité 4 Un jeu de dés Work in groups of three or four. The teacher will give you a pair of dice. The first roll will determine the subject of your sentence from column A. The second roll will determine the verb to be used. Create a sentence starting with the subject and verb you rolled for. Add up the numbers on the dice. If correct, your score is the total number rolled on the dice. Ex. (4, 1 = 5 pts) Nous étudions le français en classe. colonne A colonne B 1 = je 1 = étudier 2 = tu 2 = jouer 3 = il 3 = danser 4 = nous 4 = travailler 5 = vous 5 = regarder 6 = ils 6 = parler Activité 5 Jeu de dominos Work in groups of three or four. The teacher will give you a set of slips of paper that will serve as dominoes. Distribute the dominoes three each among members of the group and put the rest in a pile. The first player will lay down one domino, earn a point, and take another domino from the pile. The next player must lay a domino that fits against the domino on the board, on either side. If so, s/he wins a point and takes another domino. If not, s/he loses the turn and gains no points. Continue until all the dominoes are played and there is a highscoring winner. p. 54 habite Hélène regarde Je à Québec. la télé. mange Tu écoutes Nous une pizza. la radio. travaillons. Vous nagez. Nom Activité 6 Terminez la phrase! Work in groups of three or four. Each player should have a small stack of blank index cards. The teacher will read an incomplete sentence. (Ex. En classe, je dois....) Each player secretly completes that sentence on his/her card. When all cards are written, compare cards. The players whose answers match each earn a point for the round. Then go on to another round with a new sentence to complete. Activité 7 À chacun son activité Work in groups of three or four. First, you should know which team you will be opposing. Then, each member of the team should write on an index card what they think is an activity that a member of the other team engages in, without using that person s name. When you have a card for each member of the opposing team, trade cards. See if your group can correctly match people and cards. The team that correctly matches all the cards wins the round. Activité 8 Un jeu de loto This is a class activity. On a slip of paper, write a sentence in French about one of your classmates doing a specific activity. Try to make your sentence as original as possible. Then take your sentence to the teacher to check for accuracy and to be sure that it is one of a kind. Then learn your sentence and hand the slip to the teacher. Circulate in the classroom, have other students tell you their statements, and write their statements in random squares to fill your grid. When all grids are filled, the teacher will use the slips for a game of lotto. Unité 3 Leçon 7 espace libre p. 55
