Impact Uni-Vent 750 Portable Ventilator Description - Indications- Contraindications- Side Effects- Special Considerations- The Uni-Vent 750 Portable Ventilator is a portable electronically controlled, time cycled, pressure limited ventilator. It is controlled by an on board microprocessor which continuously monitors the patients airway pressure, all control settings, alarm parameters and power signals. Extended duration transport that requires ventilator assistance or complete airway/ventilation control None Possible hypoxia due to malfunction of ventilator Possible Pnumothorax from over pressure Adequate oxygen supply for the transport External 110 power supply 1

Operation of the Uni-Vent 750 Portable Ventilator Control Module: Front panel of ventilator where the controls and indicators are located. This panel is accessed by unlocking and lifting the clear cover. All of the ventilator functions and settings are done from the Control Module. Mode Selector Switch: Turn the ventilator on and allow it to perform a self check. After the self check has completed you can use the Control Module to make adjustments to the settings and select the operation mode according to the patient s needs. CTRL Cycles in accordance with Rate, Inspiration time and Flow Adjust settings. ASSIST Cycles in accordance with Rate, Inspiration time and Flow Adjust, but will sense the patient s attempts at spontaneous respiration and assist the patient with the Flow and Inspiration time settings. Control takes over when the rate is to low or no spontaneous respirations are sensed. SIMV Will intermittently deliver a controlled breath at the Rate control setting, and synchronize to the patient s spontaneous respirations. The patient breathes at their normal rate and volume until the next controlled ventilation. 2

Flow Adjust: The Flow Adjust will allow for the user to adjust the Tidal volume delivered. It is used in conjunction with the Inspiration Time. (Calibrated for 50psi input pressure) Example: Flow Adjust set at 500 ml/sec and Inspiration Time set at 1.5 SEC will deliver a Tidal Volume of 750 ml. (see the back of the ventilator for a Computation Chart) Tidal volume = 6 Liters/Kg Rate control: To select the ventilation rate, press the RATE button next to the Rate control knob. The button lamp will illuminate and the digital display will light and allow adjustments to be made. 12-20 breaths per minute Inspiration Time: To select the inspiration time, press the INSP button next to the Inspiration Rate control knob. The button lamp will illuminate and the digital display will light and allow adjustments to be made. Inspiration time 1-1.5 SEC High/low pressure controls: Adjust High/Low pressure alarms. press the HIGH or LOW button next to the High/LOW knob. The button lamp will illuminate and the digital display will light and allow adjustments to be made. (10 above and 5 below the hospital Peak Inspiratrory Pressure) PEEP controls: Select the PEEP setting if required. Alarms: Alarm Status indicator will alert you to any problems that may occur. This function is designed to give you an auditory and visual alert. The alarm can be temporarily muted or cancelled for a period 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on the alarm type 3

1. Low Pressure/Disconnect activates when the airway pressure falls below the low pressure alarm setting control setting, or if the patient circuit is disconnected for any reason. 2. High Pressure activates if the airway pressure exceeds the High pressure control setting for 2 seconds or for 4 consecutive breaths. 3. Peep Not Set activates when monitored Peep exceeds the settings by +2 or -1 for three consecutive breaths. 4. Alarm Mute/Cancel indicates that the alarm mute/cancel button has been pressed. All ventilation alarms will mute for 30 seconds. External Power Low/Fail and Low Battery alarms will last for 5 minutes. All alarm conditions will reset once the problem has been corrected 5. External Power Low/Fail activates when the external power supply has failed or been disrupted 6. Battery Low/Fail activates when the internal battery falls below 12.2 volts. (It will shut down if the battery falls below 11.2 volts.) An external power supply should be supplied if this alarm activates. 7. Apnea activates in Assist and SIMV modes. The ventilator will default to a special Assist- Control Ventilation program during this alarm. It cannot be muted. Once the problem has been corrected the alarm can be cancelled. Ventilator Connections GAS IN: GAS OUT: Transducer: Connect the Green Oxygen tube to the GAS IN connection (male thread) on the front of the ventilator. Requires 50psi to function properly Connect the ventilator end of the circuit to the GAS OUT port on the front of the ventilator. Connect the GREEN transducer tube to the Transducer port on the front of the ventilator directly below the gas out port. You may have to cut the connector off the end of the tube. 4

Exhaust Port: External Power: Connect the CLEAR tube to the EXHAUST port silver nipple located on the side of the gas out port. You may have to cut the connector off the end of the tube. Connect the external power cord to the EXT POWER port on the front of the ventilator. 1. Verify operating Power connection. Operator Performance Checks Before connecting the ventilator to the patient 2. When using external power source insure that the EXT POWER indicator lamp is Illuminated. 3. Verify completion of self-check. 4. Insure all hoses, tubing and fittings are properly connected and secure. 5. Review all ventilator settings. Patient Connections Patient Valve: Connect the GREEN transducer tube to the Patient Valve on the larger of the two nipples using the white elbow. 5

Connect the Clear exhaust tube to the smaller nipple located on top of the Patient Valve. Connect the circuit to the endotracheal tube and assess the quality of the ventilations being provided Consider the use of an End Tidal Co2 Detector.. In a high noise environment or where auscultation may be difficult or impractical, an End Tidal Co2 detector is mandatory as an aid in assessing the patient s ventilatory status and tube placement. Manual Over-Ride Manual Trigger located on the bottom of the Control Module will allow manual over-ride of the control settings. 6
