The Competition takes place every second year in Vevey, Switzerland, where Clara Haskil resided from 1942 until her death. A street in Vevey is named after her. The Competition welcomes young pianists from all over the world, who pursue the musical ideal inspired by Clara Haskil which will always remain an example. Awards Only a single candidate will be declared the winner of the Clara Haskil Competition; the jury reserves the right not to award the prize. This candidate will receive a prize of CHF 20 000.-. The final, with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, will take place on Tuesday 11 September 2007 and will be broadcast by Radio Suisse Romande-Espace 2 and Télévision Suisse Romande. The two finalists will each be awarded a prize of CHF 3 000.-. Engagements The winner will also be offered various engagements, notably under the auspices of the société Arts et Lettres, Vevey, and Radio Suisse Romande (Geneva and/or Lausanne), as well as with musical societies in Bern, Bienne, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Sion, Sierre or Zurich. On behalf of the winner, the Clara Haskil Competition will also make contacts with musical societies and orchestras in other countries, for example the Théâtre Musical de Paris, the International Music Festival of Besançon, the National Orchestra of Lille, the chamber orchestras of Vienna and Cologne, the Süddeutscher Rundfunk Orchestra, the Ruhr Piano Festival, the Olympus Musical Festival of Saint Petersburg, the International Lanaudière Festival of Canada and others. This list is indicative only and may change according to the possibilities available. Radio and television rights The Télévision Suisse Romande and Radio Suisse Romande- Espace 2 will record all performances for subsequent broadcasting. The candidate shall renounce all performing rights for live or deferred radio or television broadcasting (Radio Suisse Romande-Espace 2, Télévision Suisse Romande and Union Européenne de Radiodiffusion) within or outside of Switzerland. Accommodation The Competition office can supply addresses of families offering accommodation (basically free of charge, but depending on the families concerned) as well as a list of hotels and boarding houses (with costs borne by the candidate). Travelling expenses These expenses will be borne by the candidate. The Competition benefits from the collaboration and the partnership of Radio Suisse Romande-Espace 2, and the support of Fondation Nestlé pour l Art, Lausanne Fondation Leenaards, Lausanne Loterie Romande, Lausanne Fondation Stanley Thomas Johnson, Berne Banque Lombard Odier Darier Hentsch & Cie, Vevey Fonds Culturel Riviera and other bodies. The members of a circle of private donors, founded in 1999, also support the activities of the Clara Haskil Competition. The Fondation Nestlé pour l Art, by its generous contribution, ensures that our Competition continues to fulfil its mission of revealing and encouraging young pianists. The participation of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne is a coproduction in collaboration with Radio Suisse Romande- Espace 2. CONDITIONS OF ENTRY REGULATIONS 1. The Competition is open to pianists of all nationalities, born after 31 December 1979. 2. The application form must be filled out completely and accompanied by : a) a curriculum vitæ on a single page ; b) a list of schools attended, with names of teachers, diplomas obtained and dates ; c) the candidate s full repertoire ; d) a list of participations and results in previous competitions ; e) a list of concert performances from 2004 to 2007, (mentioning place, orchestra, conductor and programme) ; f) a passport photo ; g) a photocopy of the candidate s passport ; 3. Last date for entry : 30 April 2007 (postmark as proof of timely application) 4. Candidates selected will receive confirmation of their participation by 15 June 2007 at the latest. 5. The entry fee is CHF 260.-. The instructions and rules for payment will be given on the confirmation of participation, sent out by the Competition in June 2007. 1. The Competition reserves the right to eliminate candidates who do not meet the required standards ; 2. candidates must indicate on the entry form the duration of each piece chosen for the elimination round and the quarterfinal ; 3. the content of the programme given on the entry form may not be subsequently modified ; 4. no work may be performed more than once during the Competition ; 5. candidates may decide whether or not to play the repeats, but must remain within the specified durations ; 6. candidates must present themselves at the Theatre of Vevey, at the latest at 2 p.m. on 30 August 2007 (the day preceding the start of the Competition) ; 7. all the rounds are public ; 8. the order of appearance of candidates is determined by drawing lots, and applies to all rounds of the Competition ; 9. except for the semi-final, all works must be played from memory ; 10. for all rounds, candidates may choose the order in which works are played ; 11. candidates are recommended to use the Urtext publications of all works played, wherever possible ; 12. the jury may interrupt candidates during their performance ; 13. the decision of the jury is final ; 14. only the winner of the Competition may use the title Winner of the Clara Haskil Prize ; 15. after the Competition, the two finalists may use the title Finalist of the 22nd Clara Haskil Competition ; 16. in case of any dispute, the French text of this brochure shall be deemed authentic. Candidates must interpret a solo programme of between 45 and 50, composed as followed : a) one or several works by the following composers : Beethoven, Schubert or Schumann (at least 20 ); b) for the remaining programme candidates may choose one or several works by the following composers : Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Haydn, Mozart, Ravel, Schubert and Schumann. duration : no less than 45 no more than 50 14 to 16 candidates qualifying Note : It is admissible to play a recital consisting exclusively of works by Beethoven, Schubert or Schumann.
