If you are still on MSDE 2000 and need to move to SQL Server 2005, click this link: Migrating MSDE to Microsoft SQL 2005 Express SP4 This document will explain how to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express SP4 for use with Shelby v.5. NOTE: Be sure to make a backup of your SQL Data folder and a full Shelby v.5 database backup if performing these steps on your existing Shelby v.5 database server. Click this link for instructions on performing a full database backup. Page 2
Before you attempt to install SQL Server Express 2005, be certain that.net Framework 2.0 (or higher) is already installed. You can check by going to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel. Once you have verified this, the first step is to download Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express. Click the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=26435597-b28e-4568-9d16-017bdf47abdc. You will then be presented with the choices for download: Page 3
The SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE is the correct install for both 32-bit and 64-bit servers. This will also allow you to install the Management Studio at the same time. It is very important that you start with the correct version of SQL Server Express. Shelby v.5 requires SQL Server 2005 Express SP3 or newer. If you download from the link on the previous page, you will have the latest version: SQL Server 2005 Express SP4. To verify, right-click the file you downloaded and select Properties. Click the Version tab and the File Version should be at least what is shown below (9.0.5000.0). Page 4
Make sure you are logged into your server as an administrator and double-click the installer that you downloaded from the Microsoft web site. You will see the screen below and must accept the licensing agreement before you can continue. The installer is interactive, so you will need to click Next on each informational screen to proceed to the next step. Page 5
Page 6
The following screen is very important. The installer runs a system configuration check on your server, and then gives a list of each tested item and the status (results) of that test. Errors will cause the install to abort; warnings should be investigated and resolved but usually will not abort the install. Note: If you are getting warning messages at this point, click the word Messages to see what the warning is, see how to correct the issue or determine whether you can ignore the warning altogether. Page 7
WARNING: On the next screen it is critical that you remove the check from Hide advanced configuration options. If you do not do this, your SQL installation will not be correctly configured for use with Shelby v.5. On the next screen, choose which features to install. Database Services and Connectivity Components (under Client Components) are the minimum requirements, but Shelby v.5 needs the full Connectivity Components and Management Studio Express. For both of these, select the option for Entire feature will be installed on local hard drive. Page 8
NOTE: If you click on Database Services the installer will let you change the install path at the bottom of the screen. On the Instance Name screen we recommend that you choose Named instance and that you name it Shelby. The Service Account used for SQL affects the security of your system. Change the Use the built-in System account selection in the pull-down menu to Local System. You should also select both SQL Server and SQL Browser as services to start at the end of setup. Page 9
For Authentication Mode, Shelby v.5 requires Mixed Mode. The SQL Administrator (sa) password should be chosen with care, as anyone with this password has full access to all of your Shelby v.5 data. Shelby uses ShelbySystems-2007 as the default password, but you can use any password you desire. Page 10
Do not alter any settings on the Collation Settings screen, just click Next. On the Configuration Options screen, remove the check from the top box and place the check in the bottom box. Page 11
The settings on the Error and Usage Report Settings screen are optional. When you click Install on the next screen, the installation process will begin. Page 12
After the install has completed you will be presented with this screen. Click Finish. Page 13
