1. GETTING READY Introduction This chapter describes the steps to take before installing Omgeo OASYS 6.4, and the steps to upgrade from previous versions of the application. The chapter also gives an overview of the Microsoft SQL Server Express database application used by Omgeo OASYS 6.4. Before You Install Omgeo OASYS 6.4 Before you install OASYS 6.4: 1. Verify that your workstation meets the OASYS system requirements, described in the System Requirements document, located in the Omgeo Documentation Library at documentation. 2. Gather the required information, as described in Information Required for the Installation. 3. If you are connecting over OASYS F5 SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network), disable the Windows User Account Control. Follow the procedure in Disabling the Windows User Account Control (Windows 7 and Vista). Information Required for the Installation Before installing Omgeo OASYS 6.4, gather the following information: Your Omgeo acronym (used as Site ID), host ID, and host password. An administrative password you want to use with the OASYS administrative login, oadmin. You are prompted to enter this password during the installation of the workstation. Note Safeguard your OASYS administrative password. If you misplace it, contact the Omgeo Customer Contact Center to reset this password. A non-administrative login and password you want to use for OASYS. You are prompted to enter these credentials the first time you start the OASYS workstation. To use the OASYS F5 SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network) connection, you need an Omgeo SSL VPN user name and password. Contact Omgeo for these credentials. Workstation Installation Guide 5

Disabling the Windows User Account Control (Windows 7 and Vista) If you are using OASYS F5 SSL VPN, Omgeo recommends that you disable the User Account Control (UAC). When UAC is active, each SSL VPN connection to the OASYS host requires manual validation. In addition, the UAC prevents the OASYS 6.4 Workstation Event Log option from functioning. Note To change the UAC, log in as Administrator. To disable the UAC settings: 1. Select User Accounts in the Windows Control Panel. 2. Click User Accounts. 3. Select Turn User Account Control on or off. 4. Uncheck Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK to complete the change. 5. Restart the workstation to apply this change. Upgrading to Omgeo OASYS 6.4 Follow the appropriate procedure in this section to upgrade to Omgeo OASYS 6.4 from previous versions of the application. Upgrading from a version previous to Omgeo OASYS To upgrade from Omgeo OASYS 4.x or from a version of Omgeo OASYS 5.x previous to Omgeo OASYS 5.2.1, first upgrade to Omgeo OASYS 5.2.1: 1. Use the Omgeo OASYS Backup tool to back up all data. 2. Install Omgeo OASYS Note Omgeo OASYS replaces the OASYS MSDE database used in prior versions with a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express database. The OASYS installation program copies the data from your MSDE database to the new SQL Server 2005 Express database. 3. Install Omgeo OASYS 6.4 as described in Installing Omgeo OASYS on page 9. Upgrading from Omgeo OASYS If you are upgrading from Omgeo OASYS 5.2.1: 1. Install Omgeo OASYS 6.4 as described in Installing Omgeo OASYS on page Verify that Omgeo OASYS 6.4 is working as expected. 3. Remove Omgeo OASYS Note Because OASYS and 6.4 use different SQL Server 2005 databases, the OASYS 6.4 installation program leaves the database intact. Omgeo OASYS Version 6.4, December 13,

Upgrading from Omgeo OASYS 6.x If you are upgrading from any version of Omgeo OASYS 6.x, simply install Omgeo OASYS 6.4 as described in Installing Omgeo OASYS on page 9. Note Because OASYS 6.4 uses a different SQL Server 2005 databases than previous 6.x versions, the OASYS 6.4 installation program leaves the previous 6.x database intact. After You Install Omgeo OASYS 6.4 If you are configuring Omgeo OASYS 6.4 to connect to a centralized SQL Server database, set up the SQL Server and the local workstation. To set up the SQL Server, follow the procedure in Configuring Remote Access to SQL Server Express on page 45. To set up the local workstation, follow the procedure in Workstation Configuration on the Local PC on page 51. SQL Server Express OASYS 6.4 installs and uses SQL Server 2008 Express for Windows 7 and SQL Server 2005 Express for Windows XP and Windows Vista. OASYS 6.4 also installs SQL Server Management Studio Express. Note Use SQL Server Management Studio Express only under the direction of an Omgeo Support representative. For more information, refer to SQL Server 2008 Express Books Online or SQL Server 2005 Express Books Online, installed with Omgeo OASYS 6.4. Workstation Installation Guide 7

3. SOLVING INSTALLATION PROBLEMS Introduction This chapter describes solutions to common problems you could encounter during the installation of Omgeo OASYS 6.4. Error Messages from Windows Vista During installation of OASYS on Windows Vista, the application sometimes generates error messages indicating it has failed. In actuality, the installation has not failed. If you get these error messages, click through to the next step to complete the installation. This anomaly is associated with OASYS Vista installation only and does not affect the outcome of the installation. Editing the Database Build Script and Running It Manually Setup uses a SQL script file, OasysBuildDb.sql, to build the OASYS 6.4 database. If Setup cannot build the database, the path to your OASYS database and its log file in the script file could be incorrect. You must find the database path, enter this path in the script, and then run the script manually. To find the OASYS database path: 1. Choose Start Run Type regedit in the text box, and click OK. 3. From the Registry Editor window choose Edit/Find, enter SQLDataRoot, and then click Find Next. The SQLDataRoot data value is the path to your database engine s database file. The OASYS database is located in this path, in the Data folder. For example, the default path to OASYSDB64 is: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Data\OasysDB64DB64Dev.mdf. Problems Connecting to OASYS Database If you cannot start OASYS or you get an error while attempting to connect, generally the ODBC data source was deleted. (A typical error message is An error occurred while creating the trade object. ) You can use the following Administrative Tools on the Control Panel to find the error: Application log in the Event Viewer, to see the events logged by OASYS. Services, to see if SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) is running. Workstation Installation Guide 53

Data Sources (ODBC), on the System DSN tab, to see if there is a data source name for OasysDB52. If there is no data source name, see Creating an ODBC Data Source next. Creating an ODBC Data Source To connect to its database, OASYS needs a Microsoft Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data source. The ODBC interface allows applications to access data from various database management systems (DBMS). If Setup cannot create the OBDC data source, it could generate a message such as the following: Setup could not set the registry root location. You may not have the proper permission to edit the registry. You must manually create the OBDC Data Source Name, DSN, for OasysDB64. To create an ODBC Data Source: 1. Open the Control Panel, and then double-click Administrative Tools. 2. Click Data Sources (ODBC) to display the ODBC Data Source Administrator window (Figure 3.1). Figure 3.1 ODBC Data Source Administrator (System DSN Tab) 3. Select the following: Drivers tab, to verify that the version of the SQL Server begins with User DSN tab (shown in Figure 3.1), to verify that no entry exists for OasysDB64 or OasysDB64. If one does, remove it. System DSN tab, to verify that an entry exists for OasysDB52. If one exists, select it and then click Configure to configure and test the connection. Omgeo OASYS Version 6.4, December 13,

4. On the System DSN window, click Add to display the Create New Data Source window (Figure 3.2). Figure 3.2 Create New Data Source 5. Select SQL Server, and then click Finish. In the next window that appears (Figure 3.5 on page 57), do the following: Check the box Change the default database to Change the database name from Master to OasysDB64. Verify that both ANSI check boxes are checked. Omgeo OASYS Version 6.4, December 13,

Figure 3.5 Create a New Data Source to SQL Server (Database and ANSI Settings) 9. Click Next. If an error occurs, verify that the database was created properly and the user Omgeo has the rights to access the database. 10. In the window displayed next, leave the default settings as they are, and click Finish. 11. Review the settings in the ODBC Microsoft SQL Server Setup window, and then click Test Data Source. If the test is successful, the application displays the message, TESTS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY. (Figure 3.6 on page 58). If the test fails: a. Verify that the database is running b. Repeat the steps to set up the ODBC Data Source, described in Creating an ODBC Data Source on page 54. Workstation Installation Guide 57

Figure 3.6 SQL Server ODBC Data Source Test 12. Click OK until you close the ODBC Data Source Administrator window. Uninstalling Omgeo OASYS 6.4 When you uninstall OASYS 6.4, it is not necessary to uninstall every application that OASYS installs. For example, you can safely retain Microsoft programs. If you later choose to uninstall those applications, use Add/Remove in the Control Panel. Warning When uninstalling OASYS 6.4 and its associated applications, remove Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 last. If the Installation Fails If the installation fails for any reason, be sure to reboot before trying to install OASYS again. Rebooting clears out any files remaining from the failed attempt.
