Preparing Personal Support Worker Diploma Program 24 Weeks 640 Total Hrs. 285 Hrs. Theory 355 Hrs. Field Placement The Personal Support Worker (PSW) assist nurses and other members of the health care team in the basic care of residents and patients, primarily assisting with and providing personal care and other activities of daily living, towards maintaining the individual s maximum potential for independence and self-direction. In addition to personal care, PSWs may carry out housekeeping and other home management duties, and care for infants and children. Personal Support Workers are employed in health care facilities; long term care facilities, such as nursing homes, homes for the aged, and retirement homes; group homes and hospice centres; by day care and day away programs, and in private homes by home care visiting agencies and private individuals. Medical Certificate Police Reference Check (Clearance) of Criminal Record Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certification Achieve a minimum mark of 70% in all modules. Pass all the performance demonstrations. Achieve a satisfactory rating in all abilities listed in the Skills Passbook. (Clinical Skills Rating) Have current Police Clearance, Medical Check Up, and Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer (Level C) Certification. Have fulfilled all of the practicum (clinical placement) hour requirements. Pass the PSW Final Examination administered by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC). The Personal Support Worker Diploma Program at Evergreen College is approved as a Vocational Program under the Private Career Colleges Act, and meets the standards of the National Association of Career Colleges. REQUIREMENT The Course consists of 14 covered in the classroom and in the clinical lab. Additional practical experience is provided in a facility and in the community. Early Childcare Assistant Diploma Program 35 weeks 945 Total Hrs. 455 Hrs. Theory 490 Hrs. Field Placement The Early Childcare Assistant Diploma Program has been designed to equip childcare workers with the valuable knowledge, skills and experience for employment as Assistants in day care or early learning centers. In addition to covering early childhood development, program planning, communication and other vital topics in childcare, the program also includes the role of the assistant in a childcare setting. There is increasing demand in the industry for qualified individuals who have completed formal training such as that offered in this diploma program. Career opportunities exist in childcare centers, kindergartens, nursery schools and centers for exceptional children, Montessori Schools and early learning centers. Community Service Worker Diploma Program 43 weeks 875 Total Hrs. & Recommended 200 Hrs. of Voluntary Field Placement The Community Service Worker Diploma Program is designed for individuals seeking the knowledge and skills to enter the field of social services and draws upon the principles of sociology, psychology, and other social sciences to counsel and assist individuals and their families in understanding and resolving their personal and social problems. Graduates of our Community Service Worker Diploma Program can expect to be eligible for a position as a counselor in a variety of settings in the social work field, including mental health and domestic violence, youth facilities, halfway houses, correctional facilities, and drop-in centre as well as a wide range of group homes appropriate to social service practice and counseling centers that serve diverse client populations.
