ROCKET READER This is a tool we encourage all of our students to use. It is a reading speed and comprehension improvement tool that helps with fundamental skills which directly affect half of the ACT test - both the Reading and Science sections. For many students these two sections of the test are the most difficult to complete on time, which is related to their reading speed. This tool is excellent for improving reading speed, short term memory and comprehension. To get started, use this link: https://www.rocketreader.com/online Login - Student email Password - Student last name in lowercase ROCKET READER INSTRUCTIONS Sign in as above and choose a 15 or 20 minute lesson time. Use the Timed Section first. Click on the button near the lower left of the screen. It will choose a text reading for you. Read through it and then answer the questions. This will test reading speed and comprehension and give you both scores. Now you should go to the Flash Section at the top. This will help expand your peripheral vision so that you actually see more text at one glance. Spend about 5-7 minutes on that and then go to the Speed Button. Look through some of the Fun reading passages and select one to get you started. It will give you a screen displaying the text and just below is a window that has a number in it. This is your initial reading speed. Enter the speed that the Timed Section gave as your reading speed. It will start the passage at that speed and gradually increase it as you read. If you use this program correctly and frequently (4 to 5 times weekly for 15 to 20 minutes) it can easily DOUBLE your current reading speed and significantly improve your comprehension. ACT MATH RESOURCES This includes a series of Math videos covering the basics of Geometry/Algebra/Trig and some advanced math courses. Even if you do well
in math, it is strongly recommended you go through these videos as a refresher. Even the highest scoring math students still make simple mistakes on math concepts they may not have seen for several years. To access this set of materials go to www.allpencilsdown.com and click the Purple Login button. Enter login and password below: Login - Student email Password - Student last name in lowercase Your Student page will appear. Scroll down the screen to the button labeled Math Resources for Students and click it to access the resources. If for some reason you DO NOT SEE this button, please contact us at: questions@allpencilsdown.com You will see 11 videos in the Geometry section, 5 videos in the Algebra II/Trig section and 2 videos in the Advanced Math section. Once you complete these videos the site will place a check mark by the video name. You can watch them as many times as you would like, and if time permits, review some of them the week of the test. NOTE: Over the years it has become obvious that students need much more math support than other subjects. DO NOT DELAY watching these videos until the last day or two before the test. As you work through the homework assignments, you will see these concepts repeatedly. Working through them repetitively will not only help you learn them, but will help you apply them on the ACT test. ADDITIONAL MATH RESOURCES George Mizzell, the Math & Science Instructor and Tutor, noticed students need as much math help as possible. In response, he prepared a free, online math workshop. This four hour workshop will focus on the easier math basically the first 30 math problems on the ACT test. Fostering a strong foundation in this area will help tremendously when preparing for the test. In addition to this, you will find 2 Math Review videos and 2 additional practice tests of just problems 1 to 30. To get started, click on this link http://www.allpencilsdown.com/students/math_resources.html
Print the Practice Work Math Workshop. Do the problems FIRST, then watch the video explaining each problem thoroughly. After completing the first Math Review video, move on to the second one, etc. When you have finished all videos, print the complete test at the bottom of the page. Work that test and check your score. SELF-PACED ACT PREP MATH & SCIENCE COURSE VIDEOS Please use this link to access the course videos: http://www.allpencilsdown.com/act_self_paced_ms_temp.html
