ANPR parking payment terminal

Apollo, the accessible parking payment kiosk Designed according to international standards, the LPS Apollo payment kiosk is easy to use for both standing and wheelchair users. With its simple user interface, sunlight readable and responsive touch screen the Apollo payment kiosk provides the perfect platform for all ticketing applications. Its robust, simple, yet secure design makes for reliable operation and easy maintenance. User interface The 15 high brightness touchscreen is sat back at an angle, designed to be easily viewed by wheelchair and standing users alike. The portrait orientation of the screen provides both best use of viewing area and privacy. Payment Apollo can accept many methods of payment including chip and PIN, contactless, notes and coins. Apollo can even give change with its three large capacity coin hoppers Integration Apollo has been designed to work with ANPR controlled car park enforcement systems, incorporating barriers and back office enforcement. Reliability Using industrial spec components and constructed in high quality stainless steel, Apollo offers many years of trouble free, reliable operation. All cash is secured behind secondary doors to increase security.

User Experience Apollo is fronted by the very latest in touch screen technology with a simple yet powerful user interface application, designed to be easily understood by both tech savvy and customers not so use to technology alike. The display is orientated to make best use of the screen and is set back at an angle to provide a level of privacy. Designed for both able and disabled users, all the user interface components are within the guidelines set out by the DDA. Large text and on screen buttons make the application easy to follow and operate Sometimes, remembering your number plate, or the plate of the vehicle you re using can be difficult. Apollo addresses this problem by suggesting number plates based on the characters input on the screen. Apollo s user interface is skin-able allowing you to change its appearance for branding or seasons of the year for instance. For tourist hotspots, multiple language option buttons are presented at the top of the screen allowing foreign users to operate the kiosk without confusion. The user interface walks your customer through every step of the payment process, presenting animated help and prompts.

Back office and reporting LPS ParkHub back office provides a full reporting and statistics package allowing you to see the performance of your site and the health/status of the Apollo payment terminals. Reports such as number of sales per machine/period can be easily created. Reports can be viewed online, or downloaded for inclusion in your own accounting / reporting packages. Enforcement is performed through a third party web based system and facilitates such functions as whitelisting, permits, discounts etc. The enforcement back office has automatic links to the DVLA database so that users of the car park who do not make a payment can be followed up. Maintenance Apollo is designed to require as little maintenance as possible. Basic tasks such as collecting cash, topping up the coin hoppers and replacing the receipt roll are easily achieved through an application on the pay station. Configuration can either be performed on site or through the ParkHub web application remotely. Apollo is fully covered for parts and labour in the first 12 months. Beyond this, LPS offer a full and comprehensive maintenance plan covering parts and labour.

Security Protection of your revenue is taken very seriously on the Apollo pay station. The machine is split into two distinct sections. A top section that houses the operational components such as PC, card reader and printer and a lower section which contains all the cash handling components. Both sections are secured with a multi-point locking system and employ top of the range ASSA ABLOY locks. To further secure your cash, a second 5mm stainless steel door and shell surround the cashbox, note box and coin hoppers. And just for good measure, our anti-drill deflection plates surround the whole cash area. Each section of the machine can be issued with individual keys allowing you to control who has access to where. Cash collections and other maintenance tasks are password protected so can only be performed by personnel with the correct access permissions

Cash handling The Apollo pay station has 3 distinct cash systems. A coin box, a note box and a change giving system. Amounts and floats are fully auditable through the machine and collection ticket. The note validator is capable of holding up to 500 notes which are stacked in a lockable note box. Coins are stored in a self-locking stainless steel cashbox which has a capacity of 2500 coins. Coins of a predetermined denomination are recycled into the coin hoppers ready to dispense change. Once a hopper is full, excess coins are diverted to the coin box. Coin validation is performed using a 16 channel selector which can be reprogrammed at any time to accept new coins or currencies. To prevent foreign objects being inserted into the coin slot, an electronic shutter opens only on the presentation of a coin. Card System Card transactions are performed using the Ingenico iself unattended payment system via creditcall. The system is fully EMV compliant and meets the latest PCi 3.x certification.

ANPR managed car parks With ANPR managed car parks, there is no need for entry or exit barriers ensuring a free, unobstructed flow of traffic. Staffing costs are reduced and revenue increased with the cameras operating 24/7. How it works On entry to your car park, a ANPR camera reads and stores a customers number plate along with the entry time. At the end of the customers stay, they simply enter their number plate into the Apollo payment terminal. Apollo will then calculate the payment required, and the customer pays. The customer is then free to leave the car park. If a user of the car park fails to make a payment, along with the exit camera information, a notification is sent to a back-office for enforcement. Key benefits 24/7 control and enforcement of your car park Increased security Increased revenue Reduced staffing costs Reduced maintenance and consumables Reduced installation cost and ongoing maintenance Pay on exit; customers only pay for their stay Barrier-less; reducing queues at entry and exit Offer discounts, permits and whitelisting Real-time car park statistics and reporting.

Barriers vs. ANPR The following table compares a traditional pay on foot system with barriers against ANPR controlled car parks, highlighting cost savings, ease of use and increased security. Unlike barrier based systems which cause queues at entrances and exits, ANPR controlled car parks allow for free flowing traffic. Traditional Pay on foot Apollo ANPR Pay at end of stay Parking permits Parking discounts Cash and card payment Pre-pay for parking Pay up to 48hrs after parking Pay at beginning of stay Pay by phone payment Pay on web Low consumable cost Low cost installation Low cost of ongoing maintenance Staff required onsite during opening hours Free flowing traffic. No traffic jams

Case study Stratford-Upon-Avon Hospital Background In January 2014 plans were approved for the redevelopment and expansion of Stratford upon Avon hospital. As part of the redevelopment, a new multi-story car park was needed to release land for the new buildings. LPS as the current provider of parking services for the hospital were offered the chance to implement a new parking system for the car park. Client Specification In line with the new guidelines on hospital parking, LPS were required to provide a parking system that allowed customers to pay for their stay on exit. The hospital trust were clear that barriers and systems that required tickets at entry and exit cause long queues and were not acceptable. Staff and contractors visiting the car park would also have permits and may be charged at different rates. Visitors to the hospital should be able to purchase long term tickets were also among the requirements. Outcome Following discussions with the hospital trust and other involved parties it became clear that the only system that would meet the requirements of the client specification was one that utilised ANPR technology. LPS searched the market for the appropriate equipment, but fell short when trying to find a payment kiosk that suited the customers needs. Apollo was born. After years worth of development, in April 2015, the first two payment terminals were installed. In May 2015, the car park opened to the public and the new Apollo payment terminals along with the ANPR method of car park control was an un-disputable success. Customers have remarked with surprise at the ease of payment, the swiftness of entry and exit to the car park and that they no longer end up over paying just in case their appointment runs late!

Case study Leeds University car parks Background As part of Leeds university s strategic plan, work began on a new 10.5M multi-story car park in December 2014. The car park, split over 10 levels with 690 spaces, was needed to provide a safe and secure parking facility for staff, students and visitors. In addition an existing car park, adjacent to the new building and part of the university s sports facility, was also renovated. Client Specification UoL s car parks operate in varying modes throughout the day, differing between weekdays and weekends. During a week day the car park is open to staff and visitors of the university only. On the weekends and in the evening, the car park is open to the general public. Contractors and users of the sports facilities can obtain a code and receive free parking for a limited period. The car park is managed by ANPR technology for enforcement and security. For security, only card payments will be accepted and the payment solution must be P2PE compliant. Outcome LPS supplied three Apollo payment terminals, two within the new multi-story car park and one in the car park attached to the sports facility. The three terminals are centrally managed through a bespoke web based back-office solution developed by LPS, which provides enforcement, whitelisting, discount and free parking codes as well as sales reporting and machine configuration. The terminals communicate over standard Ethernet and are hardwired to the university s computer network providing a secure and reliable connection whilst maintaining P2PE compliance.

About LPS History Local Parking Security Ltd. Was formed in 1999 by Richard Evans as a car park management company. By 2011, and after many frustrations with the current pay and display machine manufacturers, Richard took the brave decision to embark on producing his own equipment. LPS still operates as a car park management company which puts it in a unique position as both the manufacturer and customer of its own machines. This unique business model ensures that products are designed meet the real world requirements of the car parking industry Machine Building LPS have many years of machine building experience and have produced a number of innovative Pay and Display products. All our machines are designed to withstand the riggers of British weather and extreme environmental conditions including temperatures, moisture, salt and dust. Over the years we have developed many supplier relationships, tried and tested products and eventually settled for components of only the highest quality that offer long term support to ensure continuity of the product for its expected life time. Why are we different. We design and build machines based on the requirements we have seen in our car parks, which span the UK. We take note of user experiences on site and develop machines that are as easy to operate for both the customer and engineer alike. Our machines are used extensively within our car park management business allowing us to experience the machine as a customer not just a machine builder.
