Using Virtual Audio Cable and Omnia A/X with NexGen Streaming Audio Overview As Internet Streaming technology has become more widely used, the need for audio processing completed at a software level has become essential to providing a quality product for Internet listeners. This document will outline the usage of one such audio processor (Omnia A/X) for use with NexGen. Using Audio Processing on your NexGen Streaming Machine There are two main parts for the installation and configuration of your software audio processor: Virtual Audio Cables Omnia A/X Server Installing Virtual Audio Cables (VAC) Virtual Audio Cables allow you to route your audio at a software level. There are multiple software packages available. The instructions provided below will focus on the installation and configuration of VAC version 4.03. To install Virtual Audio Cables (VAC), perform the following steps: 1. Install VAC The first screen of the installation asks you to confirm installation. Click Yes to begin the installation. 2. The next screen presents the license agreement for the software. Click I Accept to continue. 3. You are then prompted for the Installation Directory and Program Group Name. Click Install to begin copying files. www.prophetsys.com
4. When the installation completes, you are presented with the following window confirming the software was installed correctly: 5. Click OK to complete the installation. To configure the Virtual Audio Cables, perform the following steps: 1. Click Start Programs Virtual Audio Cable Control Panel to open the VAC Control Panel: 2. The following window is displayed: 3. Change the number of cables to 2, and hit Set. Important Note! Be sure Omnia A/X is NOT running when you configure the number of cables as there is a risk of causing Omnia to stop responding. www.prophetsys.com Page 2
4. Launch Audio Repeater by clicking Start Programs Virtual Audio Cable Audio Repeater: 5. In the Wave In field, select the audio card you are using to feed the main station audio into. Select the Virtual Cable 1 as the Wave Out device: 6. Click Start to begin using the Audio Repeater. 7. Open SB_Play by double-clicking the SB Play icon in the systray. Click Options Audio Options. The following window is displayed: 8. Ensure the Output Sound Device is set to the same device you configured in the Wave In field of the Audio Repeater. Set the Feed Through Control device to the Line In for the audio card you are using. 9. Click OK to confirm your choices. Installing and Configuring Omnia A/X Omnia A/X Server is designed to process your audio at a software level, eliminating the need for separate dedicated hardware for audio processing. To install and configure Omnia A/X for audio processing of your Internet stream, perform the following steps: 1. Insert the Omnia A/X installation CD. The following window is displayed when the CD autoruns: 2. Click the Install Omnia A/X button to begin the installation. When the installation is launched, the Welcome to Omnia A/X Setup window is displayed. Click Next to continue the installation. 3. The next screen prompts you to accept the license agreement. Click I Agree to continue the installation. 4. Click the Browse Button to specify where you want to install the application or click Next to accept the default location (C:\Program Files\OmniaAX). 5. The next window asks if you want to create a backup of the files that are replaced by the installation: www.prophetsys.com Page 4
6. Choose Yes to create the backup and click Next. You will then be prompted to select the Program Folder you wish to use to install the software. Click Next to continue the installation. 7. The next window confirms the software will be installed. Click Next to continue. Files are copied: 8. During the file copy process, you will be prompted to enter your license and user information: 9. Enter your Name and Company, then the License Number and License Key as it appears on the CD. Click OK to confirm your entry. 10. If you license key is valid, installation will complete. Click Finish to close the wizard. 11. The installation requires a system restart. Click OK to restart the machine. 12. When the system restarts, go to Start Programs Omnia A/X Server. Important Note! You may also access the Omnia A/X server by clicking the icon located in the systray 13. Select Virtual Cable 1 as the Input Device, and Virtual Cable 2 as the Output Device. 14. Open Control Panel Sound and Multimedia Devices. Choose Virtual Cable 2 as the default recording device. 15. Restart your media encoder software. Audio will now be sent from the sound card drivers, through the virtual cables and Omnia A/X processor, to the streaming encoder and to the Internet.
