Report on the 2010 IACBE Annual Conference in Newport, RI, March 24-26 The IACBE Annual Conference in Newport, RI this past March was a big "success." The highlight of the conference was Dr. Jack Welch, Past Chairman of the Board and CEO of General Electric, receiving the IACBE Business Leader of the Year Award during the Thursday night banquet. Attendance was at an all time high of 235. The IACBE Board of Directors was elected by the membership and Ann Tuttle of Keuka College in New York became the Chair of the IACBE Board of Directors. The Chairs of the Board Committees appointed by Ann Tuttle are as follows: Audit Committee Kojo Quartey Awards Committee Les Crall By-Laws Committee Katherine Currier Membership Committee Meg Galligan Strategic Planning Committee Terry Girdon The attendees were excited to hear that the 2011 Annual Conference will be held in Las Vegas. More about that later. CHEA Update The CHEA Task Force for the IACBE is scheduled to meet May 10--12 to complete their work on the IACBE's self-evaluation. Members of the CHEA Task Force are: Dr. Terry Girdon, Pennsylvania College of Technology Mr. Dennis Gash, Jamestown College Dr. Vaughn Benson, Wayne State College Mr. Bill Parrott, IACBE Dr. John Green, IACBE A CHEA representative will be attending a Board of Commissioners meeting in July, 2010 to observe the process for granting accreditation. The CHEA Committee on Recognition meets in November, 2010 to make their recommendation on the IACBE's application for recognition. We will keep you posted. Call for Presentations Deadline to submit your paper is September 10, 2010 Pearson Excellence in Administration Award Dr. Robert Robertson, Director of Graduate Business Studies at Saint Leo University has used online learning and Pearson Learning Studio to grow the graduate business program by 330 percent in four years, specifically with his top-notch instructor, Dr. Lynn Wilson, and student support, ability to recruit superior online instructors and consistent faculty support. Preparing a Self-Study Workshop June 22, 2010 and Assessment Coordinator Meeting June 23, 2010 The directors, regional officers and staff of the IACBE invite you to attend one or both of the two workshops being held in Kansas City, Missouri. Preparing a Self-Study will be held on Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Marriott Kansas City Airport from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The cost of the workshop is $275. On Wednesday, June 23, 2010 there will be an Assessment Coordinator Meeting, also at the Marriott Kansas City Airport, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The cost of this workshop is $275. If you choose to attend both workshops the cost is $500. The Tuesday workshop will provide invaluable help in writing an excellent self-study and preparing for a smooth running site-visit for institutions considering accreditation or those with an upcoming site-visit. In addition, this workshop will address the changes which have been made to the accreditation requirements for institutions with programs undergoing a re-affirmation of accreditation. Also, this workshop provides the training necessary to serve as a team member for site-visit. The Wednesday meeting is designed for assessment coordinators to gather and share best practices and integrate assessment into planning. You will use the Kansas City International Airport, (MCI) to attend these meetings. Zurich Conference The directors, regional officers and staff of the IACBE invite you to attend the IACBE International Conference which will be held on October 15th and 16th at the European Business School, Zurich, Switzerland. One area where we still need your help is in completing the submission of the URL's for your institution's web pages that provide evidence to the public about your accreditation by the IACBE and specifically which degree programs are accredited by the IACBE. The following format should be used: [Institution's name] has received specialized accreditation for its business programs through the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE), located in Lenexa, Kansas.
